Hudson Jones posted an interesting thread proposing 50,000CR to buy and build a car to run 400M, 1,000M, Max Speed, and fastest lap of Midfield.
Let's Get some more cars Eligible.
50,000 limit to buy a car
50,000 to modify it.

See Hudson's Thread to see our times for the first challenge.
I will have to wait till my son is done on the PS2 to work on the second one myself. Until then:
Have fun:D

Gil I think you'd have to allow troy's suggestion... I like the dynamic presented by getting the REALLY cheap car in favor of more money for mods, or going high price hoping for raw performance with fewer mods.

(plus it allows for 90k unmodified NSXs and the like ;) )

<thinking back to just starting the game... do i spend money on a car or more mods.... hmmmm...GT is great>

yea..100k club. Thats what i'm doing. i'll post my times later of 1/4mile 1000meter top speed and time on midfield, cya later

Car used: Corvette GRAND SPORT

Upgrades: Muffler & Air Cleaner / Racing, NA Tune-Up Stage 2, Port Polish, Full-engine Balancing, Racing Chip.

Max Speed: 191.0 mph

400m: 12.299 sec.

1000m: 21.723 sec.

Midfield Raceway 1 lap: 1'32.754

:D :D Just for kicks and giggles let's go for the 100K club. :D :D
I tested a few cars (three NA and three turbo) staying under 50k purchase, and about 50k for mods the Results were not at all what I expected. I expected the Vette to decimate all. It won in some catagories but it was not the leader in "the Flying lap at Midfield "
For all testing I used the Auto Tranny. For the sprints, I held the car in gear to redline using the R2 button.

Corvette Grand Sport with Racing Chip, Port/Polish, Stage 2 Tune up, Racing exhaust, Semi- race Suspension, Triple plate clutch, race flywheel, driveshaft full race tranny.
Grand total 89,260 cr.
585HP
0-400M 12.134 secs. I played with gears a bit.
0-1000M 21.231 sec. see above.
Max speed: 211.1 mph
Midfield Raceway best lap: 1:17.737

I would have done better at Midfield if I had gone with the single or double plate clutch, semi-race exhaust and spent the cash I saved on sport tires. The Vette was still the hot ticket for 0-400, 0-1000, and Max Speed.

The Suprise of the group I tested (Grand Sport 'Vette, RX7 type RZ, Clio Sport, Mitsu 3000 GT VR-4 turbo, Supra RZ, and Mustang SVT Cobra R) was the Clio Sport.
Miss Clio received: sport tires, Semi-race Susp, Race exhaust, Race Chip, Twin-plate Clutch, Race Flywheel, Full Race tranny, and Stage 2 Turbo. Grand total for the whole enchilada 90,550cr.
End result of 383HP

0-400: 12.587 sec
0-1000: 22.797 sec
Max speed: 173.5 mph
One lap of Midfield: 1:20.271

Yes, I was nearly three seconds slower at Midfield, but check those sprint times. Not that much slower, considering a 202 HP deficit. WOW. I'll post the results of the other cars later.
Y'all keep testing :D

Damn, i really did good i guess!

I had the a yellow Corvette z06 (54,000) with Sport Brakes, the Chip, Port and Polish, stage 2 tune-up, triple cltuch, best flywheel, stage 1 & 2 lighting, plus racing tranny. Grand total of 100,300 (w/ oil change)

My 400m: 11.783
Top Speed: 214.3mph
1000m: didn't test yet :(
Midfeild: 1:14.706

I wanted to test the viper..but it was 80,000 to start with

Ok guys here it is. I finished testing and collating information. I also added a car that I hadn't considered, until Ed99 blew my sprint times away. 😈.
So now there are seven cars.
Mustang SVT Cobra R...(586HP, 78,700 cr spent),
Corvette Grand Sport ..(559 HP, 89,200 cr spent)
Supra RZ ......................(507HP, 93,250 cr spent),
Mitsu 3000 GT VR-4 ......(478HP, 95,280 cr spent),
RX-7 type RZ.................(488 HP, 90,230 cr spent),
Renault Clio Sport ........(383 HP, 90,550 cr spent),
and the late entry.
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII (473 HP, 75,530 cr spent)

First of all, every one of these cars was much more than I expected when I was done tweaking on them. Because I was sticking pretty strictly to the original premise (it was my idea after all) of 50,000 for car purchase and 50,000 for modifications I did not test some very good cars because they were outside the purchase price. So, no Z06 Vette, no Skyline GT-R's, no NSX's, and no Vipers.
I went thru the dealers and found many eligible cars. I only tested one that began with less than 276HP. The list I came up with included all three models of RX-7. Honda S-2000's, every Lancer Evolution, The 300ZX's, The WRX and 22B Subarus, Both Camaros, Audis, and The BMW 328 ci (which is only 560 cr over the limit). I tried to represent the group well.
Well, enough preliminary, Here are the results, starting from fastest to slowest in each category. Times or speeds included.

0-400 M
1. Lancer EVO VII..........11.525 secs
2. Mazda RX-7 (RZ).......12.052 secs
3. Mitsu 3000 GT...........12.097 secs
4. Corvette GS..............12.134 secs
5. Mustang SVT.............12.184 secs
6. Renault Clio Sport.....12.587 secs
7. Supra RZ...................12.772 secs.

0-1000 M
1. Lancer EVO VII..........21.103 secs
2. Corvette GS..............21.231 secs
3. Mustang SVT.............21.317 secs
4. Mazda RX-7...............21.322 secs
5. 3000 GT VR4.............22.067 secs
6. Supra RZ...................22.193 secs.
7. Clio Sport..................22.797 secs.

Lap of Midfield Raceway.
1. Mazda RX-7 (RZ)......1:16.846
2. Mustang SVT............1:17.498
3. Corvette GS.............1:17.737
4. Supra RZ..................1:17.798
5. Lancer EVO 7...........1:18.373
6. 3000 GT VR4............1:19.069
7. Clio Sport.................1:20.271.

Top Speed
1. Corvette GS................211.1 mph
2. Mustang SVT...............207.1 mph
3. RX-7 RZ.......................204.1 mph
4. Supra RZ.....................200.3 mph
5. Lancer EVO 7..............197.7 mph
6. 3000 GT VR-4..............195.8 mph
7. Clio Sport....................173.5 mph

As I said, each of these cars, with the exception of the Clio, started with 276HP or more off the lot. To optimize my results on both the strip and the track, every car was equipped with a full-race transmission. The Corvette was the first car I tested and it is the only car without sport tires. That may be why it placed low in some of the competitions. The Clio was outgunned from the start but put up a valiant effort. :D
The Lancer Evo was so quick that I may have to do a comparison of just Evos, if only to see how Mitsubishi has improved the breed over the years.
Each car received the same mods due to the price. It became a "formula" for building. Each car rec'd full race trans, two plate clutch, race flywheel, semi-race suspension, sport tires (except the 'vette), stage 2 turbo for the turbo cars, stage 2 tune for the NA cars. I built my handling first, then drivetrain, then power.
I hope you all have fun with this. :D :D

One thing I forgot: At Midfeild, I only ran about ten laps in each car. I was getting tired, and I wanted to be able to be reasonably quick in a short amount of time.
I may go off now and test some of the more expensive vehicles that are eligible with the straight 100,000 cr. limit.
