Ok, I'm basically done.

My last Dilemma, Motherboard

1. AsRock z87 Extreme4
2. MSI z87-G45 Gaming
3. Gigabyte GA-z87x-D3H (EDIT) UDH3

(all basically identical price in Australia)

I am overclocking, playing games, watching movies from PC on TV, web browsing and thats about it

I heard MSI has bad customer service (from the YT channel that @ProjectWHaT recommendet)

This is why I love (and hate PCs) :D

@TB i read a comparisson between the MSI and asrock, and the asrock seemed better all round besides the sound card but then the gigabytes meant to be great too.

Whhyy soo haarrdd :( lol

For the most part it comes down to personal preference. When I finally decided on the AsRock it was purely because I was tired of reading specs and reviews and watching videos. Is the Gigabyte or MSI a better motherboard? Possibly, but I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Worst case - just pick by color.

Ok thanks for the help guys.

I'm going with the MSI G45 Z87

the decision is based on its supposedly great audio compared to others, easy overclocking and it looks awesome

Thanks for the help guys !

UPDATE: ALL PARTS ORDERED, CANT WAIT!

CPU: i5 4670k ($275)

GPU: AMD R9 280x Gigabyte Windforce3x ($385) - + free BF4

RAM: G.Skills Sniper 2133 8GB (4x2) ($104)

MotherBoard: AsRock Extreme4 Z87 ($189)

Heatsink Fan: Noctua NH-D14 ($88)

Power Supply: Corsair GS 700 V2 ($125)

Memory: 1TB WD Caviar Black ($92)

Case: NZXT Phantom 410 ($124)

TOTAL AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS: $1382

Extras:

SSD: none
OS: Windows 7
Monitor: Korean eBay monitor - 2560 x 1440p 'Crossover 27QW IPS 6ms' ($350 delivered)

Incredible value but a bit risky. Basically there is a whole range of these monitors from Korea, they are called A-panels and are basically the exact LG panels that go into Apple's retina's but they didnt meet the very high A+ standard. There is also Samsung PLS variations.

Could you throw your build into http://au.pcpartpicker.com just to make sure we're all looking at the same parts?

Generally, though:

The Cooler Master heatsink should be great plenty.
No, the PSU is not overkill.
Don't forget thermal paste.

Thermal paste comes with the CPU's heat sink I think
Correct, and now that I'm thinking about it more, a small tube should be included with the aftermarket cooler, but for $5 I opted to buy some Arctic Silver.

Your build from post #42 looks good, @Kalem. 👍

I really have no idea why but I'm a sucker for white cases.

Cheers man ! Yeah the phantom in white is not for all but I think it looks epic, especially with the LEDs

I decided to change my monitor to the Asus 2ms

With the Philips IPS 27" 278C4QHSN 5ms in the build post will this response rate be fast enough? I don't want any ghosting. Anyone tried this monitor??

Or should I go with the faster 2ms Asus and sacrifice not getting the IPS display (same price)

You should check out the monitors in the Logical Increments website. Unless that's where you got that monitor from.

ordered everything, thanks for the help guys, changed my monitor last minute, provided there is not bleeding or dead pixels the 1440p will be amazing
