'80s MusicMusic

Vice City did get me into Foreigner. Never cared for them during the 80's. I was missing out.
You're joking. Please say you're joking.

Having grown up in the '70s and '80s, I'd rank Foreigner as probably the Number Two Worst Band Of All Time, after Billy Joel.

No, you are joking! I love both! :dopey: Now I gotta hear your third worst. If you say Poison, I'm never speaking to you again! j/k!

Right away I notice you'r emissing a few of Journey's greatest. I'm no Journey expert, but I recomment these:

Journey - Faithfully
Journey - Lights
Journey - Open Arms

Also, the correct title for Don't Stop Believin' is just that. Not Don't Stop Believen.

Phil Collins - One More Night
Phil Collins - Take Me Home
Phil Collins - Something Happened on the Way to Heaven

(most mp3s are labelled Sting & The Police) The Police - Roxanne

Sting - Fields of Gold

Foreigner - Feels Like the First Time

Genesis - In too Deep

Haddaway - What is Love

Personally, I think Meatloaf - I Would do Anything for Love is too good to be left out, no matter what decade it came from. I'm not sure, and that's why I'm saying.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Rod Stewart - Have I Told you Lately

And I think that's all the songs I have that aren't on your list yet. I also think that this is one of the greatest threads ever, because I run into the exact same problem as you. I might hear an old favorite, but by the time I get to the computer I've forgotten the lyrics, and of course I never knew the title or artist. I've already picked about ten wanted songs off the list that I recognize just from the title!

EDIT: Duke, I'm surprised you didn't crack on Journey. There's someone around here who absolutely hates them, and I can't remember who it was. FoolKiller, possibly?

I hate Journey too, but Neil Schon is actually a decent guitarist. But Foreigner has absolutely no redeeming qualities whatever. I got to the point that if I heard Urgent or Hot Blooded one more time, some people were going to die.

I just got the Journey's Greatest Hits, few weeks ago.

Keef: I like the original version of "Have I Told You Lately" by Van Morrison(1989?) better. I think it's far superior to the Rod Stewart cover.

Bryan Adams - Please Forgive Me? (Every Thing I Do) I do it For You?

Come on man, you're slacking.

Since my dad practically lived on 80's rock in my before-teen years, I know some you dont have:

Bon Jovi - Wanted dead or alive
Bon Jovi - Blaze of glory
KISS - Detroit rock city
KISS - Crazy nights
KISS - Rock and roll all night
KISS - God gave rock and roll to you
KISS - I was made for lovin you
Twisted sister - We're not gonna take it
Twisted sister - I wanna rock!
Firehouse - Two sides to every story
Autograph - Turn up the radio

All great 80's rock songs.

Each and every song in this list is a song that I hope I never ever hear again. Ever.

Damn. Lost my list somehow. I'll try again.

Some of that stuff is outside of the '80s, definitely, but as long as you recognize it... Dread Zeppelin, despite ruling the musical earth, are mos' def' a '90s band. The Pistols were 1976-78 before they imploded.

Here are some more definite must-have '80s songs:

Tears For Fears - Mad World
Tears For Fears - Change
Your list was good but how can you mention these two and not Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

What about Boston?
Didn't Boston explode at a creative level in 1978? Maybe someone could make a case for Amanda, but it wouldn't be me.
Duke
Each and every song in this list is a song that I hope I never ever hear again. Ever.
I like Thriller, but otherwise I can agree. I also submit that "We Didn't Start the Fire" is one of the most annoying songs ever.

My favorite Tears For Fears song would be "Sewing the Seeds of Love". Yeeesssssss!

I wanna rooock wit you.... aaaaaalll naaaaiight!(for Duke) :D

Why do I get the feeling that list was larger than that. :D

Some of those songs I can't stand, either. But, it's a 80's song list that's not necessarily my faves. The list is bigger than me!

Stacy Q - "Two of Hearts" is not a song you like, is it? :D

I cut out everything I didn't recognize by title or artist, or that I A) actually like, or B) wouldn't necessarily resort to violence to avoid hearing again. That leaves just the truly awful stuff in my shortened list.

OMFG i watched American Psycho and i was obsessed with teh songs in that movie, it sounded so nice. my favorite is Lady In Red

Some of my personal favorites from the 80s

Hmmm, maybe this thread is the place to go...

I actually don't remember the 80s, as I am only 21. But, I've found myself getting into a few tracks here and there. I quite like the more electronic (and electronica) side of things. I've also found myself listening to a few David Bowie, Micheal Jackson and general electronica/dance/pop records, and power ballads and the Scorpions recently too...

So, I'm looking for advice on where to start, or on any particular albums or compilations that really capture the 'best of' or spirit of 80s pop, dance and/or rock. I've tried one album and was instantly alerted to the presence of 'collections' that (either due to licencing or financial restraints) aren't able to even cover the pop genre effectively (for example, I have yet to find a compilation that features 'Thriller' or 'Billie Jean', by Micheal Jackson!).

PS I'm not sure if I've over-specialised this thread, here... Apologies if that's the case.
