Cars were flying even with the chicanes, the CLR crashes were in 1999, 1990 was the last race without the chicanes.
1989

This, plus a complete blank underbody, hence why the Porsche GT1 flipped too, in Road America.
That was also Road Atlanta, and almost the same place:

They could go faster, but they're bound by a) the regulations, and b) the ridiculous amounts of downforce these LMPs produce nowadays.

Removing the chicanes would add nothing since these cars would max their speed at a point before the chicanes anyway because of these high levels of downforce.
Your presumption that no effort wouldn't be put on drag reduction instead of high DF makes no sense...

Good news. The #16 Pescarolo which were stripped down and didn't join the qualifying session yesterday after a crash will join in tonight's qualifying session. The #51 Ferrari which also crashed yesterday may get a few laps in either of today's session.

Neither does your attitude.

Anyway, Cano, I always view motorsport races at first row sports through www.p2p4u.net. It streams F1, Le Mans, NASCAR, Superbike and much more. Just to bring your attention to this website if you are looking streams in the future 👍

I be clickin' this right now. Thanks.

So early we've already got one car stopped at Tertre Rouge. The #31 Lotus Rebellion that is...

Sorry, could have worded that differently, but I don't get your point. The current cars are designed for the current track. If the chicanes were removed, the cars would be obviously designed differently with more top speed and low-drag in mind like in the years before the chicanes.

Of course the chicanes won't be removed, ever, so this is just a wet dream.

I really hate those firstrowsports ads.... Given that the e-tron is quicker than the Ultra, I think this quali session still has loads to give!!!

Blistering lap of Romain Dumas!!! Can't wait to see what McNish can do when he gets on the loud pedal of that hybrid! Maybe break the 24 or 23 barrier?

I've had a few so far consisting of barely clothed women...

Yeah, lucky you...all the ones I get are "Z0MG YOU WON AN IPAD!!!! CLICK HERE"..

I think the ads have gone worse over there. I can't remember it being this bad a year ago.

And a 3'24.9xx from Lotterer!!! Those hybrid Audis have more speed in them that what shows. Let's see what Toyota can do.

The #81 Ferrari had an off-track excursion at the Ford chicane... Hopefully he didn't push a lot of gravel to the track. You'll know why if you watch the qualifying session yesterday.

From what I'm hearing from all the Toyota drivers so far I'd say they're still working on general set-up, rather than placing themselves in a best possible way for Saturday's grid. Audi obviously seem to be nearly ready since they are working with 12-lap stints. Toyota on the other hand seem to be constantly fiddling around with the settings, and rotate their drivers to let everyone get used to the car. Sounds a bit like Toyota will start the race not fully ready, so I'd say there's huge room for improvement on the TS030.

So fellow GTP'ers, whoare you rooting for?

Personally, I'm a fan of Audi in LMP1 and in LMP1.5 for Pescarolo. Really don't care much for what happens in GT.

Being completely honest, I'm sick and tired of seeing Audi walk away with the win every year. Add to the fact I've always been a fan of Toyota during F1 so of course I have to cheer for them here as well.

I used to root for the BMW Motorsport team in the GT class but since they're no longer here, I'm now rooting for the Toyota LMP1 team. I know the chance for them to have a victory is pretty slim compared to the stronger contingent of the Audi, it will still be good enough to even see both the Toyotas crosses the line and finish the race.

Wow ... Strakka's HPD breaks the 3'30 barrier with a 3:29.622. Fantastic stuff by a non-factory LMP1 petrol entry!!!!!

EDIT - And there you have the team I'll be rooting for, apart from the DeltaWing, of course :dopey:
