900 degree wheel drifts

Greyout
just an FYI, most hardcore drift setups are modified to have a much quicker steering ratio, so the 900 degree mode does not accurately simulate D1 style drifto-whatever driving.

Thats true, but in GT4P each car has different steering ratios. So if a geniuine D1 car was in GT4 it would presumably also have the quicker steering ratio like the race cars do.

Choosing "drift" does increase the steering response normally, but I don't know about with the wheel.
Can anybody teel me what forces you can feel in your hands coming through the DFP when drifting?

i mean for each car.. u know how the wheels for certian cars dont turn as much?

A full GT race car only requires half a wheel turn, in order to turn full lock. A normal road car requires the full two and a half turns for full lock.

When drifiting the wheel goes light, then bites as the tires grip.

When the rear end comes out you can feel the need for the wheel to countersteer. The force is there but you can fight it and keep the wheel straight , but then you won't be assisting to your drift much. Normally the wheel will countersteer around 180 to 360 degrees. When you are massaging the wheel to continue the drift there is a force that pushes the wheel further into opposite lock and you have to fight this force to bring the wheel straight to complete your drift, otherwise the force continues to opposite lock and put the wheel in full rotation countersteer and then you jacknife into the outside wall.
In GT3 using the wheel there was some steering assist where it would assist the wheels to turn a certain amount depending on the speed you are travelling; so basically you could always turn full lock any direction you felt like and it would adjust the amount of turn that you really needed depending on ur speed, but in GT4 with the DFP there are no assist, if you wanted to lock up your wheels going down the straight at 200 mph you could. So you have to be very precise when you turn the wheel, too much then your front tires lose the correction line that the car can travel at those speeds and you end up understeering.

Did anyone even notice my post?

Yes
The subjects discussed in this thread aren't far off from GT4s concerns. I don't see the point of your request. The discussion concerns gt4s logitech driving force pro, drifting, gt4 physics, steering changes, etc... should there be special thread locations for each one of these? Honestly, if I were you I'd just relax about delegating tasks to moderators and asking them to move threads around, its less stress man. I think discussion about what to expect from GT4's wheel physics is important to the community so I think it should stay here.

I KNOW THAT!!! lol. i mean will the steering go from 180 degrees turning for the GTR LM cars to 900 Degree or whatever a trueno has Automaticly??

Yes!

Its not neccessarily 180 degrees though. Each car turns different amounts.

cool, weell ya get what i mean, i know they all turn a bit more than 180. but some turn exactly 180 degrees like my wheel. thats a pretty damn cool feature. :)

When I speak of turning the wheel 180 for countersteer that is not the locked position of the wheel when at 180 mode. I call that amount of turning 90 degrees from center. When playing in 900 degree mode, much of your countersteers will require you to turn 180 to 360 degrees from center for countersteering; thats at least one turn to make the wheel upside down and then sometimes one whole 360 depending on your drift angle. Just to clear this up. I'm normally around 210 degrees and then as the drift continues I move towards 180 and then gradually move back to zero as the drift ends.

wait? i wasnt confuzed about that. i was wondering if the wheel locked automaticly(changed how far it was able to turn) depending on the car.

The wheel does not lock, you just do not have to turn the wheel as much for the race cars etc.

Nope, the wheel either locks at 90 degrees when in 180 mode or locks at 450 when in 900 mode.
If you are taking a turn at high speeds, you'd probably need like 60 degrees turning and if you go overboard to do like 90 + you just end up understeering because the front tires aren't being lined up right.

Nice vid BreakerOhio 👍 I don't know how much time you spent on playingGT4P but you've got some real drifting skills if you can adapt yourself to the DFP that quickly..

PS those links on the other thread dont work...

Excellent stuff, Breaker... but I hope you realise that you have just cost me £85 (I'm now convinced that I need to buy that damn wheel! :dopey: ) Anyway, I'll get back to you when I learn to drift like that! :)

Its cool that the DFP makes drifting a little more difficult. It only took me a few days to get really good goin from controller to wheel. But Everyone i know tells me its a bit tricky so i cant wait!!! Its just another way to distinguish the good from the Damn good!! But i'd like to see just how much u are spinning the wheel :) Are u Doin it like the D1 guys?

In my opinion, yes, I think I am drifting it like the D1 guys. I've watch alot of real life videos and my wheel action is very close if not on key to what the D1 guys do.

Its pretty tricky going from controller to wheel, but definately more rewarding, more control, and closer to real life, so go for it man. I'm so used to the wheel now that when I go to controller, its just not the same. I can't really do the same drifts that I did in my gt4 prologue video using the controller right now, its difficult to be precise without using a wheel. I think what will surprise most of you is how precise you have to be with your countersteer to help keep your drift going, you can't get away with drifting and having the front wheel straight, it just doesn't work like GT3, and in real life for that matter, every drift I have seen in real life video I can see the front tires opposite locking and following the path that the car is going, so if you want to be ready for GT4 my advice is to learn to opposite lock your drifts in GT3 and not get away with just powering over without opposite lock.

hey guys. it turns out the wheel will adjust automaticly According to IGN. If you jump into an open wheeler w/ 180 degrees of steering it should switch automaticly, but if you go into a family sedan or something it should switch to a much larger steering radius.

Chum
I've learned to drift in 900 degree mode in GT3. Unfortunately I can't get a video up or anything. So far, I've managed and at this point my line tracing still needs work, but I can drift consistantly. :)

how do you unlock 900 degree mode in gt3 ? thought this wasnt attainable

900 mode wasnt meant for gt3. but the button combination your supposed to press can be found if you 💡 SEARCH!!!!!!! :) at the top in the middle theres a search button. i'm not sure of the exact buttons to press... 👍

Live4speed, amongst several others, already explained this I believe.
