A few LFS questions...

Everyone does that when they get bored at Fern Bay, especially if you're on a relaxed server, like a drift server...

I'm a little behind the 8-ball, here, but I'm considering the purchase of a DFP if I can find one for cheap enough. Now, I know dozens of people have asked about it, and I know there have been threads about it. But they seem to have dissappeared (the threads, that is).
So... here goes.
Is there anything that needs to be purchased or otherwise done to the DFP to make it compatible with the PC? I will be the first to say that a joystick just doesn't cut it for LFS. I would love a wheel for GT4, too. I used to have an MC2, but it died long ago.
And... The DFP does work for LFS, does it not?
Thanks for your patience and (hopefully) help.

Edit - Null question. The DFP works for LFS.

OK, cool. Thanks fore the fast reply.

Edit: You're up kinda late, Lino. Of course, I'm one to talk.

The Logitech Driving Force and Driving Force Pro will both work perfectly with pc sims, including LFS. As I said above, if you're on a tight budget, a Driving Force will do the job just fine and will be lightyears ahead of a Mad Catz. It's what I use currently, I'll buy a DFP (or whatever replaces it) once it dies.

Edit: oops, too late! :ouch:

I figure, Carl, that if I'm going to spring the $$ for a wheel, I might as well spend a wee bit extra and get the best one on the market. The MC2 was great at the beginning, but as soon as the warranty ended, it started screwing up. It's sitting in about a dozen bits in a box right now.

Sure, I'd go for the DFP too, I was just stating that the DF is also a very good option, as you didn't seem wanting to spend much on a wheel.

also, if your joystick has force feedback... there's a program that would allow you to turn it into a shifter :). or a clutch or handbreak of whatever you want :P

I'm listening... But does it have to be force feedback? I would looooove a nice five speed to compliment the wheel. It's just a plain-jane Logitech jobbie, but I don't have any better use for it.

I think you can do it without having a force-feedback model...but you'd have to open it up and detach the springs.

I don't know exactly how to set it up or what program you need, but it basically works like this --

You use some program to set up certain areas of the joystick's axes to correspond to certain inputs. In doing so, you can mimic an H-pattern as shown above (a 6-gate model might be easier to use). For example, in a standard 5-speed, if the joystick was in the red area, the game would recognize it as "first." Orange would be "second," and so on, with dark blue being "reverse." The game would recognize the gray area as "neutral."

Wow, LfS is great. Ordered LfS yesterday and now Im playing with mouse. Its fun until my computer with wheel is here in my new flat.

Its so cool!

Does anyone know how to get the Momo Racing configured under LfS? Am not able to calibrate it.

That's weird... Did you download the drivers from Logitech? Is it working fine in other games?

Usually once it's calibrated in Windows control panel, it should work fine. I'm not sure if there is a combined/separate accelerator and brake axis option for that wheel, but if it's the case, you'll want to have them separated.

Carl.

Well I configured my wheel with the game software. And it works but the speed of the wheel is just incredible!

Just tip it and my car flys of the track! I cant help myself! Nothing seems to work and the pedals are seperated but I cant configure them in the game :(

When you say game software, do you mean in LFS, in Logitech Profiler or in Windows control panel (game controllers)?

Because what you describing really looks like a calibration issue, which can be solved by going in the control panel of Windows, after having installed the latest Wingman drivers from Logitech. (perhaps someone with XP could post a screenshot, I'm on Windows Server 2003 and I don't have the same configuration/calibration screen).

That's also where you can check/uncheck the "combined pedals axis" option. You won't see that option it if you have the drivers loaded by default by Windows when the wheel is auto-detected, for that you need to get the latest drivers from the Logitech website.

Once that is done you can verify / assign controls in LFS.

If you did that and still have steering issues, perhaps you can play with the settings in the "steering" section or the setup screen for the car your using (shift-s). I'd start by reducing the maximum lock setting first.

Hope that helps.

I've found that occassionally, LFS will fail to recognize the left-right limits of the wheel, and will react to any small motion of the wheel as if you were cranking it left or right. If you think this is happening, just turn the wheel all the way to the left, and then all the way to the right, hitting the stop on either side. By doing this, you are effectively calibrating the wheel within LFS, and it will respond appropriately.

Another problem you could be having is if the DFP is still on 200* mode. If only one of the green lights is illuminated on the DFP, that's the problem. Hold "Select" and "R3," then press the right-hand shift-paddle to force the DFP into 900* mode. Then, make sure the "Wheel Turn" option in LFS is set to 900*.

@Carl. using the Logitech GameSoftware. Hmm good idea checking the calibrating in windows and I'll try to move the wheel in game from one side to another.

Hope this will work so I can start with setup my wheel properly :) LfS is so addictive :)

Thanks mates

Oh the trick with the moving worked and I inverted the acceleration and brake pedal so now its working fine!

Wow, interested to see this thread sort of resurrected!

Good news is I might be getting a "freebie" graphics card of a techie mate that occasionally comes across things like that....if it'll do the job for free then....

That means I can start to have a go and see what LFS is like.

I have been close to getting a DFP for gt4 with the thought that it will also serve LFS also, just money and setting up contraints at the moment.

I think a joypad is going to have to be the way to go for me at the moment, until I can afford a bigger house that is...!

regards

David

i'd suggest not getting the dfp and putting that money towards the logitech g25 :) the dfp's a great wheel but from looking at the specs and pics... the g25 is alot better :)

Arrgh why didn't I try that?!

EDIT: Doesn't work, this Driving Force is old anyway... that G25 sure looks tempting.

 That G25 looks AWESOME! I wonder if EB Games/Gamestop are gonna have some trade in promotions involving the DFP. I sure hope so.

if they do i have two dfps to trade in:) the wheels work perfectly but the pedals for both are malfunctioning... but i wont mention it.
