Tonite, the fire alarm kept on going off for no reason. I thought it would be funny to record the fire alarm going off on my phone, as you all probably know, when one fire alarm goes off, all the others go off. So, I kept on playing the funny noise of the fire alarm and I heard the fire alarm in the hallway start going off. When I clicked stop on my phone, to stop the noise, the fire alarm went off too. I thought it was really weird. Then, my dad came up from the basement and said that "if one fire alarm goes off, then they all do, the furnace might have blown out some smoke and set the one downstairs off and set off all the others. I still didn't get that when I put on the fire alarm recording, it went off so I did it a couple more times and I FINALLY figuired it out! So I did it and my dad kept saying, why does the fire alarms keep going off!?!? So then I stopped doing it and he still doesn't know what it was.

Unless Simplex moved to New Hampshire recently, it's not him.

As far as the "prank"....I give it a 5.5

Ha-ha! Look at the ad at the bottom of this page!

Solidlifters, what do you mean simplex? What is that?

Who is that would be more appropriate but I dont think anyone really cares anyway. Simplex was a user at GTplanet who loved going on about Smoke Alarms and how he collected them and stuff like that. He was generally annoying and was banned for the following reason:

Simplex 4100U - Apr 1 2009 - Persistent ignorance of and disregard for the AUP (see also Camaro SS/928 entry above)

Camaro SS:
Camaro SS/928 GTS/Xiao Clone - 25th June 2007 - Banned for off-topic posts, explicit posts, abusive posts, and overall shoddy posts.

That is found here:

Now wait, if you turned one alarm off, wouldn't the sound of the others keep all of them on?

As a father, and a son, I offer you kudo's for inadvertantly pranking your dad.

I offer you further kudos for figuring out what the problem was and STOPPING the madness.

Someday, call your dad on the phone. Where he can't reach you. And remind him of this little event.
Wait for his response.
Be extremely glad you are where he can't reach you.

This thread doesn't seem to have a lock on it. Why oh why is this thread not locked?

Car Crash Value.

I'd love to know what mobile phone has a microphone and speaker good enough to record a fire alarm and play it back at the required volume (something like 120dB) to fool someone into thinking a fire alarm siren is sounding.

Not someone, but something. Apparently his recording was loud enough to set off the actual alarms, because they go off when they hear the others going off.

they go off when they hear the others going off.
Actually it's a wire that connects them all together that makes them all go off, not the sound, which is made easier because it's now code that all smoke detectors have to be hard wired anyway, so the wires are already there. You just need to add an extra one for the interconnect. There is no way a smoke detector company would guarantee that their products would be installed such that they would all work all the time based solely on sound transmission. What happens if I close my bedroom door?

I'm starting the think this is a load of bull.

Hmm. This could have some potential if you're still in school and they have the same alarm system.

 No, they don't have the same alarm system in school, theirs is more like an urt, urt. And mine is a High Pitched Squeel.
