It would be great that Polyphony add the feature of engine swaps. For example, you buy a '96 240SX but the engine is not enough powerful, you could put a JDM engine or even swap it with the RB26DETT, engine of the Skyline R33-R34. Another example, Honda CRX, the original engine is a B16A, you could swap it into a B18A, engine of Integra. Or the most popular swap in the world, Take a Civic and put a H22 engine in it. H22 are Prelude's engine.

I think it would be really great to have this feature in the next GT's...

What are your thoughts about it guys ?

Yah that would be a good idea. Like if you had a 4 banger and wanted to boost power a displacment by a bunch by puttin in a V6.

EDIT: I not completly sure that it would boost power by a bunch depending on the V6 you put in it.

Actually, you'll need to make lot of space for a V6 if the car is made for a 4. The only V6 that could fit in a V4 car would be the VR6... (Correct me if I'm wrong).

Swaps are variable and most can be benefic but you need to realist.

I was thinking of when I look at cars around here if you look under the hood there is usually s lot of room in there but none of the a L4s. Sorry if my comments seem to much of a dream rather than reality but, I still think it would be a good idea to include.

anything is possible if you have enough time and money.

Another feature for FT5 should be night racing. its just not the same running a 24h race and it never getting dark.

I thought of an idea that would fix that problem in future GT's. In Madden 05 you can set the game time to be the time on your PS2 clock and It will adjust whether to be Midday, Dusk, or Midnight. I was thinking why don't they just do that for the 24 hour races on GT automatically.

I've been wanting to have major understeer with an Eg6 hatch, why, cause it'll be having a H22 in it! Bwahhahah, all that weight in the front. Engine swaps seem like a good idea, very good. :)

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

Engine swaps sounds like a good idea! 👍 If it does happen, we can all try the LS1 swap into an RX-7! :embarrassed: I have heard good results from doing this kind of swap. Although people would say it totally ruins one of the coolest part of owning an RX-7. :odd:

Yea, no more Rotary Turbo. :(

seriosuly...PD isn't some kind of ricing game...well u guys are certainly making it as if it was one...Swap engines..? if u want that go play NFSU or somehting, or wait for them to have that function..definley not GT..remember is a "SIMULATION" not a ricing game..kleav that to NFS....

speaking of NFS, i cant wait for the new called Need For Speed Most Wanted, mix of Underground and Hot Pursuit.

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

I hope that NFS: Most Wanted will make a big impact by getting the kids to stop street racing and just race online at home! :embarrassed: IT would sure lower the death rates! 👍

Wrong: Let them all die :yuck:
The less people we have who loves that, the better games we get :dopey:

Well, young kids will do that, but there will always be the idiots who who want to race on the streets. They don't understand that the game is made for them to race on it, not on the streets and die.

BTW, I apologize for Alonsomania's post. Alot of his post haven't been exactly...cool.
Alonsomania: You're wrong. If you want to see them all die, then I feel no sorrow for you. That's cold blooded.

Why is that ricing? ur an idiot even old dudes in there muscle cars use different engines on cars what the hell is rice about that People do it all the time. thats simulation NOT letting you do it is unrealistic.

Sure, but only if the game makes it prohibitively expensive to do such a mechanical overhaul of a car. Swapping out engines willy nilly is true to real life but it's expensive as hell - and it kind of cheapens the game because just about any car can be a 9 second car if you put a 9 second engine in it. If the engines for said cars are similar and can be inserted with minimal change to the transmission, gearbox, whatever.. then it could work.

But.. at the same time..

You also have to consider what kind of durability you're going to be getting out of a tweak like this. When you mess with stuff like that.. the car is prone to wear down a hell of a lot quicker and I don't care what kind of a mechanic you have. If GT5 is going to take us to the next level of realism I would expect to see mechanical failures and whatnot, which you are not going to like.

Just because its a "popular" thing to do does not make it a good idea.

Actually, it would be a neat idea, but imagine programming in all possible swap combinations for all the engines that would fit in each particular car, as well as weight penalties and front-rear balance changes... :nervous: ...the only game that I've seen offer engine swaps is auto-modellista, and some of the available swaps are downright weird, and mostly unrealistic.

But then, GT4 doesn't have realistic weight modelling either. You get no weight benefits or penalties for modifying your car. Last I looked, a huge turbo, exhaust, intercooler, roll cage and spoiler added at least 50-60 lbs to your car.

Maybe if the tuner shops were the ones to offer engine swaps, and only the most popular / well-documented ones, like FF Honda swaps, FR Nissan swaps, Ford 5.0 swaps, etcetera... but that's still asking for too much... better to just ask for them to sell the cars with the engines swapped already.

How am i an idiot...the point of Gran turismo is too have cars that have there own Stock engines, and for you to see how they perform. Swaping engines for other cars would be ridiculous consider how much PD would have to work to create those codes for each engine for certain car..also how is it not realistic if they don't put swap engines in it? not putting it in is gonna be more realistic if they don't put it in.putting swap engine in the game would make the game not realistic cause cars won't have there own stadard engine andf therfore things will be very werid.

Yes this is a better idea then the whole concept fo the game doing swpas for every car..this is good idea..having tuner shops already having the swaped cars there already with a different engine..this could be better..

good idea if these are taken into account-

-engine/bay area size, keep transplants within the realms of reality. no W16's in minis for instance (although there are a couple with V6's)

-engine weight, want a bigger engine? sure. but you will have to pay the handling/balance price.

-engine tuning will be comprimised, wow youve put a 4.0 into a 2.0 engine bay. thats much more NA power but theres no longer room for the turbos that that 4.0 could normally have been tuned with.

-overall vehicle weight, heavier engine = heavier car, i suppose a plus side could be tailoring a certain power to weight ratio. if you take an old muscle car with a 300bhp cast iron lump you could use a 350bhp all ally V6 to improve handling, brakes and power.
