Again, thank you very much. There's a lot to work with. I'll start as soon as I've tucked up the kids.
BTW. I always driven auto, looks like now is the time to try the shift to manual.
This is a bit of a conundrum (puzzle, problem to solve)...
At this track, as I said, I think manual is best. However, I would consider this track a hard track to learn manual transmission on. If you have trouble with manual transmission and
need to stay with automatic transmission...
Don't forget there is the
"hold gear" trick with R2 that you can use to prevent the car from shifting up/down when you don't want it to. With use of that "trick", you can simulate
some of the shift points I described, however, you won't be able to "short-shift" or "shift-down". You are at the mercy of the game for that
Also, if you run automatic, I would do the gear setup a little higher than I would for manual transmission.
With an automatic transmission, I would run less rear Down Force than full (or maybe raise the rear springs higher than the front springs) to "loosen" up the rear to help in steering. Then, find ways to feather and/or "burp" the throttle to get through corners rather than hitting the brakes. With a "looser" rear, you can often coerce or coax the rear end to "swing or drift" to help steer through the corners better. It requires a bit of "touch" and "feel" to prevent over rotating. You may also consider playing with the VCD to help with this. Sometimes having more front wheel drive simulated helps to "pull" through corners faster. Sometimes having more rear wheel drive simulated helps me "drift" the rear better. Whatever works for you.
Remember, you can almost always actually go through a corner faster than you initially
think you can. I always say to myself... "Self, you are already losing... what more have I got to lose?" Then having convinced myself

... I go for it!!!
