A-Spec 420PP Japanese 80's Festival

I just love the Mt Aso track. It's such a pleasure driving around the track. Love the gradient changes in the track, which make it a lot more fun with the 80's cars.

I've detuned the Isuzu 4200R to 420pp and had no problem winning first time out in all races, regardless of which "rabbit" is used. The setup I'm using maximizes handling, with weight slightly rear-biased, so that you can steer effectively while trail-braking (no understeer). Then, when you need to get on the power early out of the corners, that ballast is sitting right over the rear tires where it needs to be. A nice, neat 4-wheel drift from the apex out to the edge, and away you go. I think I'm going to try the same sort of setup with the MR2 next. Fun series!

Hoping you guys casn help. I'm havin' throuble with my Nissan. Its an '89 Pao with 164K; I've tuned the bejeesus out of it and I can only get second at Tokyo. Understeer is the main problem. Any suggestions?

Put Comfort Medium on the back and make that rear end slide :D

Great Video Onik :)
I de-tuned the 4200 to 390 and tuned it. Rather easy wins even at 390. except Clubman route 5 might need to bump to 400 to win it. So can proly go lower but this will give some decent pay outs while doing the event and give you a fun drive while your at it.

Used the EXA Canopy LA Version Type S '88.

It's got unbelievable grip in turns. The car looks slow but after changing the transmission to 5 close speed, it's behaves well.

For a station wagon, it's got amazing grip.

I'm using the skyline gts-r 87 from the OCD....it's not the best handling car so I had to put ballast on the rear to ease the terrible under steer...won first two,now for Suzuka.

I had no idea this truckie looking wagon thingy was worth trying! I've ignored it in the UCD a dozen times. Gonna have to try that one :)

If any1 loves drifting, try the Fairlady Z 300ZX Z31 (83) car.

It seems to be built for the Nurburgring track.

Well now I'm just drifting! Goodbye apex! Hello first place! Pao conquers Mt Aso.

It's hard to resist! I do that in all my FF cars, use a lower grip tire on the back, and tune it like that, some cars you don't even notice difference because of the amount of understeer, others become very tail happy. You just have to change your drive style in a FF car.

I decided to try out a few cars from from the OCD, stock, just changed the oil. Did Mt Aso and Suzuka in the Mitsubishi Galant, CSR5 and Motegi in the Mazda RX7 and the Nurb in both of them (because it's fun). The RX7 is superb stock, just enough poke to keep up and lovely neutral handling. Didn't have much luck with the Celica or the Skyline.

Anybody beat it with the Honda City Turbo? Even at 420 pp I found it too slow.

Couldn't do any better than 2nd on a few courses. It handled well enough, but it was so slow on anything resembling a straight that I would actually lose time. Dreadful car.

Any one tried the Levin yet?

It surely is easier to win.

The challenge is to win with a car with the minimum PP so the performance difference bonus gives back a load of credits.

Have golded all of the races with the Fairlady. Using the Mx-5 Miata (NA) '89. Has 351 PP. Came 2nd at Mt Aso & got 1 mil credits.

What weight are you running it at?

The PP system punishes light cars. There is a "magical" line at 900 kg.
Anything below this in a low-power car with comfort softs and you will struggle to be competitive.

A Honda City will probably be fastest without weight reduction and ~165 kg of ballast (If you can get it up to 420 PP with power mods) on fast tracks.

Mt Aso is your friend. Took 1st on lap 5 from the Skyline. Put on 200kg, make the rear handle bad and throw that thing around!

Won them all with the Isuzi 4200 concept '89, while watching Remember the Titans on the other TV.

Loved being back at the 'Ring again, gotta be the best track ever made.

Won them at 420PP to get that out of the way, now for the fun bit, lowering the PP as low as it can go.

I'll use the same car at the 'Ring with reduced PP and see how I go.

Edit. Won at the 'Ring 371PP 155hp 1700kg. $1,475,988 xp142364. 9:05, by 3.2 sec's.

Edit. Won at 366PP 148hp 1700kg $1,569,048 xp151340 Total time 9:08 by 2.765sec's.

Can't go any lower in the Isuzu that I know of.

Do you really want to stick with the Motul?

Try the Toyota Levin or the Exa station wagon. They have far more better grip.

You may need to mod the cars with transmission & drivetrain options for better gearing performance.

Loved these 2 cars.

Praise the powers that be they have seen the light!

To find these cars we talking about check the online car dealer and the UCD. I would recomend hitting up http://gt5cars.net make an account and use that to find out when said cars are going to show up in the ucd, better to-do it now when your garage is still smallish. And not like me at 700 cars 👍 the site helps emensly with getting the rarer cars like the gt40 and 2j and xjr race car etc etc or if you are after particular cars.

'89 Miata/mx5 from new car dealership will do the job. That way you don't need to wait for it to turn up in the UCD. Also the OCD is stuffed full of cars for this event currently. At level 12 you can buy any of the 80s Japanese cars. Enjoy.

Lap times to beat:
Clubman R5 - 1:08.7 - toughest race, can get slower rabbits
Motegi - 1:46.4
Suzuka - 2:41.6
Nordscheife - 8:50.7
Mt Aso - 1:04.5

Used MR2 Supercharged, '87 Skyline GTS-R, '85 Savannah RX-7, '89 Eunos Roadster (needed lot of uptuning) but best was a ballasted '89 Galant 2.0 DOHC from the OCD, at less that 420pp it is dead solid neutral handling and fast. Shouldn't need any race cars for thei seasonal.

Here's what worked for me. Let me know if you like it.

I've been setting the rear suspension super stiff to reduce rear grip and reduce weight transfer from front; seems to help wheelspin.

Diff 35/55/20 (I don't know why it's this high, just what it was from last time I used this car' maybe had racing soft on it).

I've been trying out a lot of slugs in this event, so the Motul is lightning fast for me; 59 secs Mt Aso. Gotta turn in super early. Such fun! Also, soften rear suspension and add rear wing for the 'Ring.

I once visited the GT5cars Website & entered the top 8 or so cars as per the rule to find out the order of cars in the oncoming UCD.

Somehow, it couldn't help out & couldn't provide a result. I was keen on knowing as to when would a 2J Chapparel car appear in my UCD.

Since then, whenever I could I would through the old fashioned way of entering 6 license tests & quitting to get a new set of used cars.

Ultimately on Saturday, my dream was realised & I bought the 2J Chapparel car for 12 or 13 million credits.

It was a big relief.

As for the 80's cars, all of them except a few are fun to drive. As mentioned earlier, my favourites are the Levin & Exa, but the Fairlady Z helped me conquer the 5 races with ease.

Good to hear you got your 2J. as for GTcars it has some holes in the database and you may have had that set of cars up. Also something I noticed with is if your off on a car name for any reason say there are 2 cars that look the same on the name but have one thing differant they are diffferant in the database and the game and you may simply selected the wrong car from the list for that particular set up. I had that problem when I first started with the site reloaded 2 new car sets and it came up and i saw what happened with my top 8 i picked the wrong car from the two options i was givin
