€250. It comes with a pair of cufflinks? Why?

To push the idea of "wealth"; people with money tend to like having custom cuff links made.

I will say kudos to them for actually offering physical items & proving my earlier comment wrong.
I remember when you used to get real, physical items that made the prices justifiable.

However, $250 is steep for a franchise that needs to re-establish itself after being gone for over a decade (not accounting the Ferrari only game) & making it limited edition to encourage buyers is certainly a tactic. That's a price I think only developers like Rockstar, Polyphony, or Bethesda could probably get away without question just because of their reputations in the industry.

That's an awful big reach for a game whose most recent foray into the news was how badly its demo ran before it went back to being ignored. Best of luck to them but...

Nothing says high fashion quite like matching your cufflinks to your baseball cap.

Now that the cottage industry of Gamestop employees stealing pre-order physical goods to resell on Ebay is long dead, it's slowly becoming a thing again. Though I wonder if that steelcase has the actual game on disc in it, or just a dummy disc that only goes to the console download page. Having a proper physical copy of the game would actually be a value add these days.

Quiet sure Xbox + PS5 = Disc, PC = Code in a box (Steam). But yes the amount of download will still be huge even on the console versions and probably increase over gamelife.

@Famine

The largest display item in the box is a framed model of a Porsche 918 Spyder, at 1:36 scale, also bearing the TDUSC logo and some writing we can’t quite make out in the official images.

I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, but that's a very, very bland/boring car list when compared to the competing games.

What a boring car list.

I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, but that's a very, very bland/boring car list when compared to the competing games.
It is extremely outdated. The list would have been fine in 2018. There is a lack of variety in cars as well. Entire segments of cars are missing, like modern hot hatches, sports cars, GT cars, super sedans, sport sedans. Japanese cars are criminally underrepresented, as are muscle cars. For a game about high class lifestyle, it lacks luxury cars.

TDU used to have a mix of normal upper class cars mixed with Hypercars + their special editions. You would not find these special editions in other games. It made the game feel more unique. Cars like the Bleu Veyron or Peking to Paris or the Tricolore or the Carbon Astons etc.

It also makes no sense to add cars from TDU2, when modern versions of these cars exist. Q7, Slk55, R35 Black, California etc. It seems like they exist only for nostalgia.

I peaked back into TDU 2 (and 1) and what surprised me the most was that despite TDU2 releasing in 2011, it had 40 cars from 2010/2011/2012. That was ~40 cars out of ~120 total that were absolutely brand new at the time. On top of that ~60 were from the 2000s. Over 100 cars of 120 total were at most 12 years old when the game came out. TDU has only 6 cars from the 2020s.

This also brought to my attention how varied the traffic cars were. They had pickups, SUVS, vans, trucks, buses, dumpers, buses, firetrucks, coupes, sedans etc.

TDU had ~120 of its ~140 cars from the 2000s, for a game that came out in 2006 and also had the same variety in terms of traffic.

Both games also had planes and boats in the background too.

But so far TDU SC has had only vans and taxi as local cars. The rest are all playable cars (why F150 Raptors are traffic in a city like Hong Kong).

Just for context FH5 has 130+ cars from 2020s, and while it did lack them at launch (had only ~20 from the 2020s), they have rapidly added them over three years with over 330 cars added to date.

Unfortunately TDU has a much smaller team, and their update frequency is also one every 3 months. I don't see the car list improving a lot.

I guess the problem is that Kylotton have a lot fewer resources than PD and T10. Probably can't afford to license the brand new cars in the same way. To be fair, even GT7 doesn't have a huge list of 2020s vehicles. But I agree, the car list is lacklustre and not as varied as the old games.

I'll give TDU SC a go. I know it's primarily going to be PvP but I'm a sucker for new racing games and while I'm not expecting the same interest and excitement that I had for TDU 1 and 2, it could be fun to explore a different environment.

Besides, there have been no new racing games this year with the exception of F1 24. I deleted all my non-racing games. Just find that I lose patience very quickly with them nowadays. I loved the original Alan Wake but the combat element in 2 was atrocious. So convoluted that I just ended up deleting it in exasperation 😂

Intresting, i loved Alan wake 2 i thought it was a masterpiece, enjoyed it from start to end.

Most of the time i only play racing games in general, but lately latest 2 years it has been gt7 for majority of my time, some ac here and there, and maybe some fh5.
Could really use more racing games,

It is ridiculous that in a game staged in Japan we will only see 3 Japanese cars. Come on!

Ps. Still waiting for the promised Nintendo Switch version.

Sorry repeated post

Clearly, Alan Wake 2 is a very well constructed game where a lot of thought went into it. I just hated the combat element. Wasn't that keen on the "central hub" location in Saga's mind, either. Maybe I'm just getting a bit grouchy in my old age.

The TDU SC trailer does look very inviting, I must admit. It really does give off the original TDU vibe. Hopefully, there's at least a dozen or so more decent cars left to be revealed.
But didn't the first two games have around 120-150 cars? I don't think they had massive car lists.

I'm kind of surprised there's not really any model trims/editions like the Vantage Carbon Black, 722S Roadster, Zonda Tricolore, RK Spider, 612 Sessanta, etc. that TDU1/2 used to feature that would, in a way, fit the game's aesthetic of wealth & give players the chance to use cars most racing games pass over.

At best, I see the LaFerrari Aperta & the Chiron 110th Anniversary. No Porsche 911 GT2/3s of any iteration is surprising for a racing game as well, imo. No Pagani for a franchise that once had 5 different Zondas is a bit sad, too.

I was kind of looking forward to checking this game out as I loved the old Test Drive games but.. YIKES that car list is horrible. Not feeling this game at all now.. dang.

It's all a bit confusing and off-putting. It's also the only current game I can think of outside of the curated/official licenced titles (F1, ACC, WRC and the likes) that doesn't have the McLaren P1. The map looks fun, but if there's nothing interesting to drive around in, what's the point?

That's an interesting little nugget of info. Now, I'm kind of curious as to what this game's DLC is going to look like. Releasing cars other games have had no problem including day one could lead to questioning if they were intentionally held back.

Yay for an Abarth, but loses that enthusiasm for being a 2008 model. Plus, it doesn't appear to have a natural rival or direct car to progress to, like the Fiesta ST or Cooper S.
