Just an idea.

It real life you see people put GoPro on their race cars, it looks cool and neat.

It would be neat to see this in GT6. It would also be good for photo mode, you would be able to take some neat pictures.

You could also put them inside your car, I know a lot of people want to get interiour shots of the cars in GT5 but it can be hard to do.

IDK just a thought that popped in my head, IMO its an alright idea.

What do you think?

Wait, are you saying you want the cars to have GoCam's modeled on dashes and what not or you want to be able to get footage from these imaginary GoCam's? I would like one replay camera angle for every car to be behind the driver like we often see from real world drivers on tracks. I don't need to see the camera modeled in car.

As for taking interior shots in photomode, PD purposely decided they didn't want pictures to be taken from inside the car.

To the OP, good idea. This would be reasonable.

I think it would be a great idea. I can already think of some interesting places to attach one, preferably for some unique replay camera view

I think the idea is really good, but it would not be necessary to model gopro cameras and then attach them to the car. It would make more sense to give the player the option to move the camera view completely free around. Something like the freedom with the camera in the photomode, but directly on the car itself.

GT5 already has some good replay-views, but an option to place the camera where you want, would be a creative tool for many.

I think the creative possibilities are really low in GT compared to Forza Motorsport. It is something where PD could redefine tools like a livery editor, replay options, picture and video export.

There are probably countless uber-creative people in this community, who would benefit from such features.

That's sort of what I was thinking; modelling the GoPro cameras, giving us the options to stick them to cars, would add a lot more work to PD's plate than simply giving us a more free-roam replay mode, where we could "lock" the camera in place as we so desired. A Movie Mode, if you will.

...and if they're going to gloat about how much effort was put into modelling interiors, for deity's sake, PD, let us in them easily!

Indeed; and a personal request; more imaginative out-of-track replay angles like GT4. There were some amazing vistas available back then that we can't get now, as most shots are usually from the same sort of boundaries we get in the current, limited free-roam.

Credit where credit's due: GT's Photomode is vastly better than Forza's. But otherwise, I agree, and the creative aspects open up entirely new avenues for gamers to explore and enjoy these games. I know of a member here who started fiddling with photography through GT4, then moved on to real life stuff, and now does some quality pro work. There are people in Forza who make just as many credits as I do racing online just from selling their sticker sets and car designs, or tunes. I'm sure many of us could get sucked into a Movie Mode if PD provided us some rough editing interface in GT6 👍

There are probably countless uber-creative people in this community, who would benefit from such features.

The Photomode section alone tells me this is true 👍

Project CARS has this sort of feature. On any car you can use the free camera to put the POV wherever you like, then save it as a custom view. So you can drive with a view like this, for example:

Isn't the GoPro camera just like a regular roof cam?

PD have been giving great (and impossible) camera angles in replays since the first GT. Early GTs also utilized side cameras in replays, but for racing itself, that's just not practical and would be mostly useless. It's not difficult to add other camera angles for racing, but what would be best would be adjust-ability for both cockpit cams and outside cams, like in pcars.

As for adding visuals of cameras on the cars, I don't see how that would add to the game. Seems like a gimmick to me.

A really cool gimmick. Go Pro cameras are popular and everywhere nowadays. Adding them would be the first really neat thing PD has had to GT since forever.

I remember ejecting the disc during GT3's music replays to get the camera to stay at some cool angle, like behind the front tire or looking back from the driver side window.

Its a small square thing. How hard can it be?

Because PD can simply add the same camera angles possible with those cameras WITHOUT actually drawing the camera on the car or driver's helmet. I wouldn't want those eyesores visible during a GT6 replay.

There is still no need to model the camera or license it.

Is it fair to say theres no need to license or model real cars or real tracks or real rims or real races or even real paint colors?

Authenticity adds to the game.

They got the Top Gear license and squandered it. The least they can do is license a go Pro camera.

I didn't say hard, I said unnecessary.

Cars and a certain brand of camera are hardly in the same league when building a car game.

I agree, let us move the camera around, no need to put a physically modeled camera on the car. Many of the content creators who use GoPro footage to enhance driving videos often try to include takes without GoPro's stuck all over the car if they can afford to do so. Does anyone remember GoPro's being use in the Gymkhana videos? Yes. Does anyone remember his car being absolutely covered in them? No, even though the captured angles would generally imply that it was. Instead they did multiple takes with and without the cameras... because they do not add to the look of the car.

Still the same principle

Why is there no need? Are you telling me that if GT6 shipped tomorrow with the ability to add a go pro camera anywhere on your car people are not going to like it? Adding it would be a really neat way of connecting GT to real world racing. Alot of amateurs use go Pro cameras

Do they have to be GoPros? Doesn't Sony do anything similar (but obviously not likely to be in the same price category)? Why can't they just be cameras? Do they have to be visible? Just seems awfully masturbatory (to demand a given brand) for something as transient as this, and just a little bit kitsch / tacky overall if I'm to be honest. I'm sure PD don't want to put things in that'd easily date the game, but then Top Gear...

Anyway, if they do add GoPros, they'd have to replicate the awful sound quality - that distinctive, muffled, grindy, rattly sound, as though the mic isn't decoupled from the outer casing in any way, must be there, too. :P

Yes you would see them. duh. And no other action cam can match GoPro.

But this is a virtual world, a video game. They can make a "perfect" video camera, ie a live in-game camera angle. There is no need to actually model a real world camera the same way none of the current camera angles are actually cameras. Do you want the 3rd person camera to be on the end of a huge structure 15ft from the car as well?

Are you serious with that statement? First neat thing they have done in forever? Adding a GoPro Cam? :scared:

Agreed. Some ideas that people have for GT6 are, to put it mildly, completely baffling.

I don't think having a moveable camera is a horrible idea, just doesn't need to be modeled and use a real life camera. I think I pointed it out earlier but GT5 essentially has 2 replay views in each premium that came from a mounted camera. Just give us options on where to mount your imaginary camera and voila, most but not all are satisfied.

Well, if you can name something else, Im listening.

I like unique ideas like this. Some time ago someone suggested giving us the ability to take pictures of a race live, from the stands or some other viewing area. Many will say thats a waste and not needed, as you can go into the photomode and move the camera around and get the perfect angle.

But which corresponds to reality? Which helps blur the line between simulator and reality?

I really like how imaginative some people can get. The "things you would like to see in GT6 besides cars and tracks" thread has loads of ideas some people may deem absurd and unnecessary, while others, perhaps more imaginative, creative people will like. If such a camera were attached to a helmet, I can see it giving a more realistic, bumpy view of the action, that follows the driver's head as he looks to the apex or when the user manually looks outside a window or over his shoulder.

I'm quite confident that if GT6 launched tomorrow with the ability to attach a GoPro camera it would definitely be a talked about feature that fans of other sims would envy. Now are there better or more important features to add first? Of course. But theres nothing wrong with this.

Thats all right, I dont expect many people to understand. Why do people want to see real time tire deformation (have fun seeing it) but not a go pro camera. Who knows? I dont really care to think about it anymore.

The purpose of the GoPro cameras in real life (I have one for karting/autocross) on cars/karts is to show a Point-of-view film, of the driver, or on the car.

I think the point of wanting it in GT6 is valid, but, I'm thinking it should just be for a YouTube export type thing (just give us a video that we can export to XMB onto a USB memory stick) OR an in-car "action-shot" of driver/car struggling on a track; both things that almost all PC games already have.

Seriously, anyone can attest to the PC games already having features like this, by watching any number of YouTube videos of PC games.

So, if the guys from SimBin, iRacing, and other games can give us video from on-board, that we can capture with FRAPS (without needing a capture card = $200-300,) why can't PD just give us an ability to save our replays as videos, and export to XMB?

Edit: SimBin has Race '07 with some really cool POV (point of view) features; bumps/braking/accelerating affects the player's vision, and the player's head is naturally turned towards the apex, and all of these features can be controlled by a percentage (the amount of effect added.) It shows up in replays, just like Earth just mentioned.
