Zarqawi was confirmed to have been killed by a bombing raid by a US Task force on June 7, 2006. The task force had been hunting him for some time and he had eluded them on many occasions, in some close calls. The bombing raid on June 7, 2006, apparently occurred at a building in Baqubah where US Intelligence had received credible information that Zarqawi was located, along with his spiritual adviser, who was also reportedly killed.

Current reports indicate one aircraft, not yet identified, dropped two 500lbs. bombs at what was labeled a top al-Qaeda meeting. He was positively identified by facial recognition, tattoos and fingerprints.

you beat me to it.

It's about time that MF'er got bombed. Hopefully Iraq can become stable and the wealthy "leaders" of all the districts can get rid of their ignorance to suppost the democratic movement.

Although the Wikipedia entry says "such claims have yet to be confirmed by the US miltary or the Iraqi prime minister", it now looks as though the Iraqi PM has now confirmed that Zarqawi is dead.

Although this man should have been ashamed to call himself a human being, somehow I doubt that there will be any celebrations in the households of the innocent people that Zarqawi slaughtered in such a despicable manner...

Carl.
Poor 78 virgins... :(

Good news.

!

Yeah, he is confirmed dead. For something this current, you should be looking up reuters, not wikipedia.

The man is not a martyr. He was a psychopath, a war criminal and a murderer of innocent Iraqis and foreign nationals alike.

Of course not.

Not a single one of those expecting their 78 virgins for their "sacrifice" are martyrs. They're all murderers. Either brainwashed, or genuinely evil murderers (or both).

It's a bit sad though: currently he's not even aware that there was no virgins waiting for him, finally.

Well, whether or not Zarqawi awaits an eternity of deflowering (presumably dead? :yuck: ) virgins, let's just hope that his removal is a step towards an end to the secterian violence that is threatening to send Iraq into civil war...

Did you guys see the man clapping above his head and stuff at the Iraqi PM's announcement? Nobody else was clapping yet, but he was practically jumping for joy. Dude's a straight-up congressional gangster.

He's thought to have personally beheaded at least two of the various hostages who have been murdered.

I may still have the video. its the same guy on the picture the OP posted.
He wanted to be sure everyone KNEW it was him .

I'm sorry in a way I even watched it..but I felt the need to know" why "...but it didnt answer...I only knew after watching that video ....we were in a fight to the death...their deaths . Every last one of them .

The only way it will stop if everyone of them are dead, otherwise it will just keep going and going and going.

Thats the problem I see happening now, its just going to keep going and going. I can't see his death putting much of a blow in all of this, and unfortuantly, I can only see it making it grow. His death will most likely cause a snowball effect through the people, specifically young males, who will see his death as honorable and will want to help deal revenge out upon the people who did this.

Yer damned if ya do, yer damned if ya don't... :indiff:

I wonder if those arrests in Canada had anything to do with this?

Some news report were saying that the operation was related to him, but honestly that doesn't make much sense. I think if he had a terrorist cell in North America he'd go for the US first, not us. We're active in Afghanistan, but not Iraq. I don't see how the link would be very strong, besides their "common cause".

Honestly though, I'm not very optimistic about his death making things significantly better, I just think someone else will promote himself. While we are not seeing him as a martyr, a lot of them are. And It's not like you can actually scare them about... being killed. Even in Afghanistan, the country is still chaos pretty much everywhere ouside of Kabul and Kandahar, and Karzai's governmet is hanging by a thread...

Good riddance to that piece of human garbage. Let's drag his rotting carcass through the streets, so people can throw stones and kick the bastard in the face.

Burn in hell, you worthless piece of ****.

This news caught my eye first when I woke up this morning. I read the news on Yahoo. But I will try to see if it is still on CCN or MSNBC. Looks like it only made it to the bar news. NVM, it made at least an 30 minute program? its on at 9 Pacific central time?((I think I got that wrong)) Nevermind again , it is on right now....

Agreed I think people should laugh at his carcass and throw stones and humilate him.

I'm glad he's now with the likes of Slobodan Milsovich.

Cut off one head, three more appear, sadly.

Well, that might be the case, but don't forget that many of his top aides/advisors in Iraq have been previously captured or killed. Al-Qaeda in Iraq must be in disarray, no matter how much they deny it.

In any case, the world is a better place without that tool Zarqawi.

I was in the middle of playing some HL2:EP1 at 2am when I heard this on the CBS uber early morning news, needless to say Im glad he's dead.

Think for a moment.

the guy you followed...YOUR leader ..your inspiration for YEARS....he said he would do it and PROVED it on video...he chopped off heads he blew up trucks full of soldiers...in fact he did all of this and more ... THEN he made TAPE recordings....he showed them to the WORLD....

So how could killing this richard head be anything BUT a victory ?

I'm so happy that little bas**** is dead. I guess hes gunna get to see Allah now but I don't think hes gunna get what he thinks hes gunna get.

Anyone catch the John Stewart show today? Man was it hilarious when they were talking about his death. But yes, thank god that piece of trash is dead....What I find funny is what he thinks he's gonna get when he gets up there....
