AC Time Attack Challenge 2.0 - see post #590 for a link to a Boxing Day event with the Alfa GTA

Sadly got no chance to try and improve my time, but I'll be sure to give round 2 a go too. Amazingly, thinking about it, this was only the third time I have ever been on the Vallelunga track...

Welcome aboard @Sureboss and @Alexd1345

Glancing at the RSR leaderboards the last few months I can see Vallelunga is not nearly as popular as the usual prettiest girls at the dance like Imola, Spa, Monza etc. It's a refreshing change from those tracks, especially the latter two:yuck:

I'm glad you chose Vallelunga, Johnny...I hadn't spent any real time on this circuit before I came across this thread. It really is a nice layout. I like it a lot. 👍

Down to 51's now, but was hoping for 50's, based on the time I was finding.

Was a mixed bag of fun adrenaline and frustrating helplessness (when the rear would go, and there was no saving it).:scared:

Spent couple hours messing around with car and found you can greatly change the way the car corners by changing camber balance. Tuned it for as much oversteer as possible and tried aggressive go for broke laps. Finally managed to string a clean one together:

It's late so I'll upload the video+tune tomorrow.

Could you explain what you mean by "changing camber balance"? I've never been good at tuning cars in GT6, the only other racing game I've ever played, and I'm so new to Assetto Corsa I just keep the cars completely stock for now. Although, I did use Johnny's setup for my most recent laps.

Outstanding:tup:👍. I look forward to the video:tup:👍. I wonder if @Aderrrm has a response for you:scared:

I must say it's been a good first week. More entries than I expected and everyone seems to have someone really close to them in the standings.

Tune attached.

Basically maxing out the camber and zeroing out the toe. Made the car very twitchy which suits my driving style.

Thanks! Maybe there are another couple hundredths left but I'm done with this track. Although there is apparently still work to do since the next fastest time on RSR is a 1:00

Look forward to next round with hopefully more people!

Been ill this week so have't had a chance since my first attempt. Set a 47.85 earlier, and now I've got a headache again.

Maybe another go later.

Wish you could change the gearing for this track, keep finding myself bouncing 2nd or bogging out in 3rd. Curious to see what time you manage when your mended 👍

Hi chaps!

Gave this a little go, nice combo. :) Not really a fan of optimal track and semislicks in cars like this, too bad you cant enforce them. (i guess one way could be scheduled 'sessions' on online lobby, but wouldnt work out too well probably. :)) But had to give a little go in this nice challenge, good job Johnny.

1:50.315 - Won't probably drive it anymore, but will see what next weeks will bring. :)

Do you see these other times on the RSR Leaderboard only when in game or can you also see them when you look on the web outside the game? The leaderboard appears to show times when I'm in game but they don't make sense, the lead time is 0:56 or something silly like that, but when I go look it up on the web it shows no times and says I don't have a time there either.

Online leaderboards are blank for me. Could be for the upcoming v1.3 reset they are going to do.

Just a reminder fellas, the deadline is tonight at midnight EST. That's midnight on the east coast of NA, 9 pm on the west coast of NA. Everyone else can use a converter in the OP if you have to. Next weeks challenge will go up later tonight, likely before the deadline.

That's exactly what mine looks like. I wonder if Weerzie is golfer Mike Weir from Canada..that's his nickname in the locker room.

I've tried for hours to set a better but can't for the life of me. I'm a master at setting 48 flats, but with a small mistake or 2 or being unable to hook up that optimum slip angle on a couple of corners and your time slips away.

Properly bored of driving this combo now. Going to call this one a day.

Well done to Harry on stringing the lap together. 👍

I managed to get 15 laps in, the last of which was...

149%20Countach%20Vallelunga_zpsus7naurh.png

Pretty happy with that, I'd played about with toe and camber settings and it felt much nicer. Pretty much instantly went in to the mid 50s, various laps in the mid to high 50s, got a 50.202 and could smell a 49.

I believe the leaderboards are up to date but you might want to double check your posted time and position before we move on to the next combination. Half hour to go...

This week we move to modern race cars with the Corvette C7R GTE from Dream Pack 1 and the Nurburgring GP track. Current WR time is 1:55.878 by RenZ from Australia who has 4 WR's to his credit along with 9 top 5's in only 17 events, so it'll be a challenge to beat that time for the extra point. The target for that extra bonus point for the WR will remain at 1:55.878 for the week. I've run a 1:58.1 in a short test of the combination (deleting my time now):

For the record, Wikipedia mentions engine based traction control being used on GTE cars with no mention of ABS, for those that want to run realistic settings. If anyone has a link to more complete regulations feel free to post it. As always, any aids can be used if you feel it's necessary, although I can tell you the car is stuck like glue to the track until you get it near the absolute limit and only requires moderate throttle modulation on the slowest corners to avoid wheelspin. It'll require pushing it really hard to get the most out of it.

In iRacing, the Ford GT GT2 (which later became GTE) car can use TCS but not ABS, so I think that's right.

I know my time was the slowest submitted, but did you not list it because of an infraction, @Johnnypenso? I know it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things, but I just want to make sure I'm not doing something invalid.

My fault, sorry, I completely missed it. :guilty: Updated now.

Oh, no problem, Johnny... Part of me was glad my time wasn't there for all to see, but hey...I gave it my best. :D I hope I can do better with the next challenge. Boy, there are some really incredible drivers here!

I've always struggled with this track, it's very tricky. Getting the right line is difficult. I've had about an hour with this combination now and I think I'm at my limit tonight. Every time I start a lap now I end up binning it, which usually means I'm on tilt.

@ALB123 , don't think of yourself as slow. Everyone here has different levels of experience. The way I see it, you wouldn't expect to rock up to a real race track and be punching laptimes like a professional within an hour. As long as you are keeping it on the track and enjoying the driving then it really doesn't matter if someone is a few tenths faster than you. Think of this as practice, with other people giving you a yard stick to aim for. I know I'll never be able to get close to the WR times but I still feel pretty proud of my laps, it still requires a fair amount of skill to get close and I enjoy the driving. Try driving at around 85% for a few laps with harder tires and more fuel, try and get your times consistent to within a tenth or so, then once you know the track really well, start winding it up.

Tomorrow night I'll practice what I preach and get some practice in because I'm not consistent at all on this track.

Anyway, here's one for starters, but I'm hoping to improve. Stock settings aside from 4L of fuel and Supersoft tires, ABS and TC both off.
