Hi friends from GTP forum!

I'm back with something different!
Being a car enthousiast and a (occasionally) real life racingdriver (RX-8 2004 on the Ring and lots of bikes) I've had the idea to put all cars that come in the Arcade mode on the Ring with N2 tires and no TC etc. control and a Manual Transmission to see how real it feels compared to real life. Also I wanted to see how close the GT4 times were compared to the real times on the Ring.

(Using a NTSC.J version of GT4 and a DFP)

I didn't drive to get the fastest time in GT4 tho!!!!! Don't get me wrong, I've driven the cars to the max, but exactly like you would do in REAL LIFE, so no grass cuttings or curbstone smackings (try that on the real Ring and you'll lose you suspension)! So I drove the real racinglines, used the real braking points, geared manual at the ideal point
and drove the cars how they should be driven (a Skyline drives totally different from an S2000 for example). Some cars should be driven hard (i.e powersliding in a controlled way) or driven careful (very powerful cars or and heavy cars).

Since I've done that, I also had the idea to test the cars to their limits on the test course to get as real as possible. Also NO tsc etc **** going on here AND N2 tires too!
I tested the 0-100, 160, 200, 250, 300 km/h times, topspeed and the usual 400m and 1000m sprints to get as real as possible.
I found that the FF and FR cars had less grip in the game than in real life, as you can see with cars like the Supra and powerful american cars.

I will be updating this topic as much as I can so that you guys can enjoy the times, like I do! So keep in mind, times are as realistic as possible!

I will first show you the times for the Japanese cars (well the cars that can do over 200k's;)), after that I will show you the rest, hope you will enjoy it!

Cheers, DaddyBird.:sly:

Fantasic job Daddybird!! 👍 I'm gonna watch this thread. :) Not being a race driver myself and never been to the Ring, I also try to drive like I think I would in real life, not taking big chances etc. I think this is important if you wanna do comparison. If I really wanna go for a time in the game I would do things I would never dare in real life, so for me that is part of the sim experience. I also think the fear factor is way underestimated. :scared:

Anyways from the top of my head since I don't have my PS2 available and haven't played for a while I think our times are almost excactly the same down to the second with N2, MT and the DFP. Hopefully I still have the times on my memory card. :nervous: My times in Enthusia Proffesional Racing are very close to.

I checked some of the times from Best Motoring Time Attacks at the Nurburgring and the are very close to your times :)

Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 (1989) 8'22'38 Same as you
Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 (1995) 8'01'72 16 seconds faster in real life :)
Honda NSX-R (2002) 7'56'73 2 seconds faster in real life
EVO VIII MR GSR (2003) 8'14'98 Damp track, 2 sec faster in RL
Impreza STI Spec C (2004) 8'06'01 Same as you

Hope you didn't mind me posting these times so I mess up your thread?? Just let me know and I will edit it or ask the moderator to delete my post.

Keep up the good work 👍

No problems Bullit, thank you for posting the real times.
I know the differences, I have the Best Motoring DVD's and the Time Attack with the R33 GT-R is crazy, He does 290km/h on the back straight, something I couldn't even manage with the NISMO 400R.
I think it was a prepared car!
The one with the NSX-R is indeed VERY close, same with the R32 GT-R that's even identical, it says alot bout this great game.
In real life tho, You FEEL the G-Forces, so it's a bit more easy to drift and brake, in GT4 you don't (really) feel the excitement, so you make mistakes more early (lots of ppl think you make LESS, but not true!).

I will update this thread as much as possible, only the lay-out has been screwed up by some reason, maybe someone knows what to do?

Thanx,
DaddyBird.

No, it won't become a sticky.

I've add [code] tags to the layout, as it is the only way to make your layout work. vB doesn't react with spaces as you'd think it would. It will only account for 1 space, after a word. With the [code] tag added, your work appears better. Plus, anyone can cut and paste it into notepad or excel to compare their times and yours.

This thread isn't in the most appropriate spot. The Race Reports forum, or the spot races and lap time comparison forum would be better. Your choice to move it to either of those places.

One a content related note, it looks like you've extensively tested these out. My questions are, how many laps did you run each car, and do you think there might be an improvement from the first car you ran to the last due to having run more laps?

Thanks,

Der Alta

I ran 2 laps with each car on the Ring, being the 1st to get a feel with the car, the 2nd lap was to set a good time, so driving the good line, branking at the right places etc. as fast as possible, without becoming unrealistic.
I think I can shave some time of all the times if I spend more laps with every car, but it would take me ages. Maybe when I've tested all the cars, I will lap some cars again to get a better time, for now, the American cars are coming soon!

Cheers.

PS. Thanx alot for the layout change!

PS2. I didn't read your question right, sorry, I'll try to answer is right now.

Well, I'm a Ring junkie to say so, I've driven over 200 laps in real life by bike and about 60-70 by car, not that I do 8 mins laptimes, but I do know how to drive it in real life.
In GT4, before I started doing this 'shootout' I maybe have driven over 1000 laps maybe much more in GT4, just with all the cars I wanted to, doing Familycup etc. I even bought the game to improve my driving for real life purposes, so I can get to the Ring and still be familiar with it in the upcoming spring.
So I don't think that I improved much during the test.;) That's the answer you like to hear I guess.;)

Yeah, but I imagine 5 years ago the thread would have been swamped by fanfics etc and dropped of the front page. I've never seen it.

Could be good to aggregate this info with some of the other data available here. eg, in Excel sort FWD by WPR (adjusted to one decimal place) then by 'ring time. Or cars by type then WPR then 400m time.

I've long wanted to do a massive GT4 cars spreadsheet but simply don't have the time. Sadly I won't get it done in the next ten days so seems unlikely it'll happen.

I know mate, no blame there, it's just that I did put a lot of effort in it but nobody responded but I know it's good info..... well maybe for GT5 ey?>
