I still haven't bought Ace Combat 5 yet, and they're going to have a new one out soon?

What are they working on for the PS3? Anything, yet?

I will, no doubt, buy this one, but only after it goes on sale, first.

New updates available. Take the above link to Google for translation.

I've never really liked plane games but Ace combat has ALWAYS looked beautiful to me. I often think, "so why is it so hard to make games look this good?".

Viper Zero
It will feature "older" fighter planes such as the F-15, MiG-29, MiG-25, F-16, etc.

With the possible exception of one of those MiGs, there's nothing new there. :P

Anyway, I'm afraid that this one doesn't really look very interesting so far...it's more of the same Ace Combat. Ace Combat 2 was a very big step forward from Ace Combat, and Ace Combat 3 took the gameplay of 2 a little bit further, but with a vastly different story and experience. Ace Combat 4 improved on everything, but 5 felt like a PC-game-style expansion pack, rather than a sequel.

The Ace Combat series is taking baby steps, and although I don't know how Namco could make any major improvements, they could at least give us something new and unique (like AC3). :indiff:

As long as they don't resort to Capcom syndrome, everything should be good once the PS3 comes out. :)

you know what, i cant wait for Ace Combat:Zero to come out. regardless of what new happens, the ace combat series is like the gran turismo series to me. no matter what, ill always be a fan.

Is this the best PS2 flight sim?

The Ace Combat games were never about simulation in the way Flight Simulator is, Ace Combat is well all about aerial combat in some kickass machinery. So its probably the best aerial combat game on PS2. 👍

i think it cleanly beats out some PC combat simulators as well

i like AC better than some of the European Combat flight sims through MS...
so i totally concur

Agreed on the first point. I can't really compare AC and Combat Fight Sim because they use different era of planes. I really enjoy the combat in AC, fire and forget missiles stuff like that, but with combat flight sim, I enjoyed the ww2 setting and the missions of dogfighting with german planes and doing bombing runs. Both games I really like, just can't compare cause of the different era of play.

I have Ace Combat 4 I think. (the one with the Erusians and the big weapon at Stonehenge?)

This looks pretty good. But best of all, it has a Mig-25

I got Ace Combat 4 also, known as Shattered Skies in the US and Distant Thunder here in the UK. I loved that forward swept wing Sukhoi, i think its the SU-35 and glad to see it will be in this game.
I'm gonna have to look around and see if I can find AC5 cheap.

The last level on 4 where you have to fly through the really small tunnels was pretty cool.

What makes it more fun is challenging yourself to fly through the entire thing at full throttle.

Or, for something that is a bit harder, flying through the entire tunnel in the last mission of Ace Combat 5 at full throttle. :scared:

I've done both, with the F-14. :D

Airforce Delta Strike was also a ton of fun.

I'll hold off on AC Zero until ps3 comes out.

I have thought about it, i wouldn't have thought the exit would be possible.

I might give it a try. :D

I was kinda dissapointed in Ace combat 5, the copied some of the levels straight from 4, and arcade mode IS ace combat 4. I hope they get something a bit newer in zero.

i figured that. I'm not feeling confident that this game series is featuring anything new that I must own. I just played this demo, and there's nothing new. Nothing sparking anything in side of me to WANT this game. Meh...

I take back what I said in September. I won't get this one.

Got the game. Played it. Beat it. To me it was a bit on the short side (AC4 length) but it made up for it in fun. Also interesting was the three ace styles (Merc, Soldier, Knight) that each were slightly different. Also, you don't have to kill everything to fill the bars. That's great and all, but this made getting an X-02 WAAAAAY too easy. ;)

I've got this, but i'm in the middle of going through AC4 for the second time. Then i'll play AC5 and after that i'll do AC0.

Oh yeah I remember why I havent played AC4 for a while. That damn escort the stupid planes mission, I just can't seem to get to that second plane fast enough grr.

GRRRR

Thanks for the heads-up viper zero.
Great contribution to the forum. 👍

Also, thanks for the trailer link.
I'm looking forward to getting this game but as usual, GT4 will hold me over. :D

"Espada 1 to Espada 2. It is time to take down the Demon Lord."

Bring it, putas!

I completed the game as "Knight". I'm gonna go back and do the other ace styles and get Ace difficulty.

The story was ok, but I liked AC5 better. It was just too short. I was disappointed [FONT=&quot]
that you are not able to fly the F-15 until half way into the game. Other then that, great game, as always.

I love the music in the game, sort of spanish revolutionary music. Take a look at the trailer: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3983363298777609465&q=ace+combat

hey my friend let me borrow AC0 what is the cheapest joystick for ps2, I really like it but I don't want to use the controller, can yall please help. then after i beat this I will try the other ones to. I don't know what I have been missing I love these flight sims now.

Does this game support online play? I've been looking for a good online action sim game for the PS2 lately.
**Just found out this game isn't playable online...Anyone know of any good air combat online games for the PS2?

Well I'm guessing its just been released in the UK cause I saw it in Tesco yesterday and bought it. Love it, everything I expected from an Ace Combat game. I just wish I got the last one, cause I missed it.

In addition the PSP version coming soon, I'll get that too. :D

My best friend started playing Ace Combat again, and I relapsed back into the obsession along with him. :D

I recently got around to sitting down and beating this game, all in one go, and I must say, it was a lot more fun than I expected it to be back when I made my first post in this thread.

It is still just Ace Combat 4 with a few tweaks and a new storyline, but the tweaked and refined gameplay is excellent, and the storyline is great, too -- apart from the ace that you play as, who is just lame. "Demon Lord" is a dumb name, in my opinion, and the whole "nameless pilot that no one really knows who pretty much does everything by himself" idea is starting to get stale, even though it was really badass in AC04 with Mobius 1.

My friend and I are both registered at http://www.electrosphere.info/, which is a great resource for Ace Combat information.

It was a fun game, seemed a bit "More of the same" but considering it's the prequel to AC5 you couldn't expect anything vastly different. Still got several planes and weapons to get....gone all the way through on Merc...half way through on Knight.

Aaaah if only the next one (no doubt on PS3) would have online play... B7R with all those planes and on a massive scale

As to the whole nameless pilot thing... um... you do realise the pilot is YOU. You play that pilot, that's why there is no name, no background because the pilots name and background is effectively yours. Which I think is better then playing some predefined character...at least if it's you you're more immersed into the story and connected with your wingmen so to speak. But that's just me
