Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War

I've played through all three modes and I'll say its not radical the way 4 was in atmosphere, or as great a story as 5.....Though zero does an excellent job of mixing things up, the furball atop the round table looked amazing as the planes swarmed around. Gunfire tracers and missle trails abound etc, etc, etc. The cool thing is the variation of the enemy squads everytime you go through under a different mode(knight soilder mercinary) was a very welcome feature.

I'm a sucker for deatails so going through all the details in the "downed" aces section was cool, because of all the little tidbits that tied the games of the series to Zero (don't want to spoil it for anyone). It was also truly refreshing to think "Oh, hell the AA batteries are going to tear me apart," as the tracers swarm you.

Very very fun game IMO...

As to the whole nameless pilot thing... um... you do realise the pilot is YOU. You play that pilot, that's why there is no name, no background because the pilots name and background is effectively yours. Which I think is better then playing some predefined character...at least if it's you you're more immersed into the story and connected with your wingmen so to speak. But that's just me

I understand that. That doesn't change the fact that the whole idea of the "fear" and "awe" that everyone has for "you" -- the one who single-handedly destroys everything in sight all by yourself -- is getting pretty stale. The player character also doesn't have to be faceless and nameless. As long as the player character is likable (like almost every RPG), players won't mind playing the game through someone else. It's only when the player character is a whiny retard (TOCA Race Driver 1) that people complain about it.

Oh man, I been taking my time with the game because i like to enjoy it and just done the mission with the XB-0. THAT THING IS MAHOOSIVE!

Real moving moment in gaming for me when I heard who I assume is Pixy over the transmission.

Wolfe, i checked out http://www.electrosphere.info/
Looks awesome, whats your username there, cause I think I might sign up!

I've beaten this game multiple times already, and trying to get all possible games. I will probably miss one, the Falken, since I don't have AC4/5 savegame. anyways, nothing is more fun than shooting them all down. I had the third and fourth one, but the fourth got stolen..

damn, some of the battles are really hectic. and that run to avalon dam in the canyon.. flying inside and destroying stuff.. hmm.. death star anyone? :D

I love MiG-31 Foxbat, that thing reached 3050km/h+ at 9600 meters.. only aircraft in the game that can reach it's missiles after launching them and outrun them too :D

A-10 warthog is cool too, but in real life, it can't go past mach one..

but there's one thing I miss from AC3 or 4.. it was those massive, 50+ planes in combat at the same time. the ace squadrons even things up a bit, but still, in the end, when one is shot down, the rest will be down within few minutes.

I am aware that I am reviving a thread that is nearly 2 years old, but to create a new one would have been less than favourable. It is interesting to note that the franchise has changed quite a bit after Ace Combat Zero. AC has sold over 10 million games, the series has moved to XBox 360, and three new games have been released (Ace Combat X, Advanced and AC6, correct me if I'm wrong). It would be interesting to see an opinion on the game in hindsight, or on new entries.

The aces' propensity to fall apart as a formation is not very evident in a current aircraft, and the MiG-31 is not as potent as it was in AC5. Shame.

And yet this, from the Electrosphere, is not the case, though I myself agree. Was there general fear for Mobius 1 in AC04? It appears that only the storytelling boy agrees with this, and Yellow 13 only has admiration for the ace.
