I dislike this thread.
I'm not sure of your point. ?Isn't the 'like' button not part of the new software?
I guess I wasn't sure of the point you were asking about, particularly. Sorry.I'm not making a point, I'm asking a question.

If you aren't aware, the button itself was not there until the site was upgraded & overhauled to the new forum software, yes. In the past, we had no such thing as a like-button (by any other name etc.).
Does that answer the question?
But not everyone could use the rep system before right? There was the rep system, which is why some old posts show up as having likes. I learned this some time ago.
Maybe we could make the Like button into a +rep button. That way, "liking" won't be… awkward at times."Thanks" button suggestion
As if by magic...Note: I blurred the content & peeps involved because all that's relevant is the dates.
The fact you stated it was from ten years ago wasn't enough?Well that kind of defeated the purpose of wanting to keep the focus on the dates involved.
Probably should have made it so blurry it wasn't readable then. Or redacted it. There was literally no magic involved - I just read it through the blur (and, with a familiarity with the Best Member Ever, instantly knew where it was).Well that kind of defeated the purpose of wanting to keep the focus on the dates involved.
Apparently not:The fact you stated it was from ten years ago wasn't enough?
I'm not saying I don't think people should be able to like posts from 5 or 10 years ago. I think they should be able to like stuff from 10 years ago.
I just think likes on posts that are say more than 5 years old, shouldn't maybe belong in the news feed.
Just sayin'.

My purpose was not to make it a secret or redact, just not to make it the focus point of the post.Probably should have made it so blurry it wasn't readable then. Or redacted it. But it doesn't work that way anymore. There are no friends!Anyone else have a burning desire to be @watermelonpunch 's friend for the sole purpose of liking old posts?
Old posts can still be 'liked'. Could be people that go through old threads.
I would also rather be without buttons but I disagree that a "thanks" button is the same as a like button. A "thanks" button has a single purpose and can't be abused like the like button is currently being abused. If anyone says anything remotely critical of a certain company or game series there is often a rude response which gets a ton of likes. IMO this is encouraging bad behavior and discouraging free speech which wouldn't happen with a "thanks" button.I don't use the Like button really, but it probably stops/reduces "+1 posts", which makes it worthwhile to me. People can show support and agreement without making the thread unnecessarily large.
The like button does the same thing though. I don't think changing the wording would make much difference. It just depends on context, if you get a like by answering someone's question, then it's basically a thanks. If it's in a discussion somewhere it means "I agree".
That's exactly what I said and you got a 'like' and I didn't.It's fine as it is. If you like something, Like it.
If you don't like it, don't Like and then, if necessary, discuss why.
If you appreciate something, Like it.
If it feels... wrong to like a negative thing, don't Like it.
You guys are making it entirely too difficult.
No need for a dislike button. If you don't like a post, don't hit the 'like' button and tell the poster in another post that you don't agree with his post. But do it according the AUP
