I am trying to join the ad-hoc party, but fail to connect the PSP and PS3. I downloaded and installed the ad-hoc party through my japaneses account and have also registered the PSP with the PS3. Also on the PSP I'm using my japanese account. To no avail. When trying to connect the two outside GT, it also doesn't work. I get a time-out. What am I doing wrong, or what have I forgotten? :ouch:

edit> The PS3 is also connected to the internet with a fixed line.

I managed to find a Youtube clip that showed what to download so I now have the thing installed on my PS3. Managed to get as far as connecting with a PSP. Now all I need is a room to go to.

If you can add me as a friend I can see when anyone is on, if I am able to join. I will be using the UK account to connect.

Here is the guide to set up a Japanese PSN Account...

denur, have you connected your psp within the adhoc party play menus?
That is what I'm trying to achieve. In the AdhocParty main menu I select the 3rd menu and it starts and keeps trying to connect to my PSP. This is the part that doesn't work.

I can take over the PS3 through my PSP, so in principle the network setup is OK.

On the PSP do I first have to start GT, or do I have to do something else first?

You need to have GT loaded up first. Once the game is loaded up go to adhoc mode.

When you select the third box down on Adhoc Party it will then find your PSP.

Well I used Adhoc Party with GT last night racing my brother (mcleeve) and a couple of other guys, and besides a few problems with disconnects and trying to match with players on the PSP screen, it was really cool, especially using headsets and talking to him, although you can communicate with the constant message board on the party screen.

The shuffle race is weird becuase it dramatically slows faster cars down to handicap them, but it gives exciting racing.

I personally prefer to use a mic and agree similar performance (bhp/ton) cars on the normal race and the same tyres (S1 in my case becuase they feel more like correct corner speeds and are challenge in rwd cars). First time using a mic for a GT game and it makes such a difference if your fighting for the lead between each other, constant crys between each when your trying to drive clean.

We were using lobby J31, and setup the title GT PSP so people knew what we were doing. We will continue to use lobbies J30-35 when we race.

I can't believe Sony haven't even mentioned sorting Ad-hoc party for the Europe or US markets yet? Using the Japanese version isn't ideal but its far better than I thought, there are so many people losing out on this software and its possibilities.

This has probably been posted before, but one can expect Adhoc Party to come to the US and EU regions 'shortly':

A recently filed trademark from Sony may be good news for PSP and PlayStation 3 owners in the West, as better wireless multiplayer support on the PlayStation Portable may be in our future.

Sony Computer Entertainment filed for the trademark "adhocParty" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office this week, the name of the service already beta testing in Japan. adhocParty allows supported PSP games that feature ad hoc wireless gaming—meaning between PSPs—to use the PlayStation 3's built in wi-fi capabilities as a multiplayer server.

adhocParty has been in beta testing since it launched in Japan last November, supporting hundreds of PSP games, but Sony Computer Entertainment America hasn't announced support for the service yet. When we spoke to Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at E3, SCEA reps said a localized version was "in the works," but offered no concrete details.

Given Sony's increased push on the PSP, with the PSPgo launching in a few months, the introduction of adhocParty stateside would make sense. Especially with marquee PSP titles like Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy Dissidia supporting the software.

Dammit I so need to Get a wireless modem

Not if you just want to use Adhoc Party. Actualy, your PS3 needs to be connected to the internet by cable in order to be able to use this feature. This is because the PS3 has only one wifi connection available, which it needs to use for communication with the PSP.

I really hope so. I really cannot get the Japanese version to work. Well, technically it works, but I cannot get through the UI this way.

MarcoM and I did some races and exchanged cars via the Adhoc Party online PS3 program. It took some effort to get things to work, but we came to the following conclusions:

1. Download and install Adhoc Party on your PS3. You will need a japanese account to be able to do this. (toturials on how to install a japanese account and how to download and install AHP have been posted before).

2. Register your PSP with your PS3, using the same account as you use on your PS3 (this doesn't have to be the japanese account). If you have another account on your PSP, delete it first and than register the PSP with your PS3.

3. Hard wire your PS3 to the internet, so do not use Wifi. If you start Adhoc Party while not connected with a cable, it will tell you so.

4. Now you are ready to play. Start AHP on the PS3 and select the top option (press circle, this is accept in Japan, like most of us would use x). The first time you do this, it will take through a number of screens (all in japanese and probably about excepting codes of conduct and the like). Just keep pressing O to accept (maybe in one or two screens you first have to select the other option).

5. This brings you to a field with a large circle, showing a world's name (e.g. A).

6. Step to World J where all our GT friends should be (use the shoulder button L1 to step left for quick access, or R1 to visit all the other worlds).

7. Again a big circle, with numbers 01 to 64. GT games (or rather GT Planet) are to be found in lobbies 30 - 35. Use the left analogue stick to highlight one of these lobbies and while holding this room number, press O.

8. This will show 3 lobbies. With the analogue stick (or up/down buttons) select the one you want and press O again.

9. Now you are in a big green playground. If you are lucky, there is a little house showing with a name like GT or GT Planet. With the left analogue stick bring up a circilar pointer and move it to this room. Press O again to enter the room. If you get a dialogue with 2 options, select the bottom one, and press O.

10. No one there? Move your cursor to some emtpy spot and press O, and O again. Fill in a name for your room (e.g. GTPlanet rules!), highlight the bottom left option, and press O. Now you have opened your own room.

11. You are now in a game room. Here you can chat by keyboard or head set, and also join games. Time to fire up the PSP.

12. On your PSP, go to Adhoc Mode and select multi player.

13. Pick a room (x), and create one (unless one is already available, just join that one). And you are ready to race.

14. For trading cars, just select share and trade and be patient for your friend's cars to show up.

Edit> As far as I know, you need to be from the same region (NTCS, PAL) to be able to trade with each other.

Edit 2> There is a way to scan for rooms already hosting GT PSP. Follow the instructions in this video.

2. Use that same japanese account on your PSP and than register your PSP with your PS3. If you have another account on your PSP, delete it first and than register the PSP with your PS3.
.

I've been playing AHP using my UK account and have found that works fine.

That is good to know. Do you use your UK account for both consoles (PSP and PS3)? Or do you still use the Japanese account on the PS3 and your UK account on the PSP? Please elaborate. :)

I'm using UK account on both the PS3 and the PSP. Haven't had any issues with connection or lag etc.

So it looks like you just need matching accounts on PSP and PS3. Thanks. :)

I updated step 2 accordingly. (see a few posts up)

^ That is good to know. So the next step would be an Enlish version of the Adhoc Party software, just to make things a bit easier.

Double Dammit I need a PS3

It'd be great if this does work. The missus gets sick of me hogging the plasma screen just so I can play GT online:lol:

I know she could just change the channel and I could leave AHP running but I can't see any text chat etc.

Ive just managed to get ad-hoc working for the first time, raced a good mate of mine on the wipeoutzone forum, since im still new on GTplanet and i dont know too many faces. But what ive found there is fairly nasty ping in the connection, due to me racing players on the other side of the globe as well having a low bandwidth connection does help either. If there are any Australia Gran Turismo PSP players out there who has ad-hoc one there PS3, and want to race another Australian, im happy to race with you, just pop a visitor message on my profile page, or send me a PM, i would love to race someone in my country, and see if i can get a flawless in game online gamplay :)
