update! im really sorry guys, i looks like im to blame for this one, i had opened the necessary ports on the router andt stuff, but it turned out that i didnt have a static ip on the ps3 anymore (had it online at my friends house) so when i found that out and fixed that, it got a lot better, cars still jumping around a bit, but now with cm instead of meters. sorry for the post, everythings ok again, now looking forward to the online races with all you guys, cheers

Hi!
ive just been racing a little bit online, and im having a really big problem with, what i must asume is lag (wich is strange, considering a have a 10 Mb fibre line) the other cars in front of me keep jumping back and forth over the entire track, making it imposible for me to pass cleanly, if i try to go on the inside, the other car suddenly jumps again and they hit me (or i hit them) and one or both of use get punted off the track. and beacause i dont wont to punt others of track the only way for me to pass, is to sit back and wait for them to make a mistake (wich isnt such a big problem online) but would be a problem racing with serious drivers (ie gtp drivers) especially in the ongoing event. so what to do? others have the same problem ?

Are you using wireless to connect your PS3 to your network? If so try switching to a cable connection. It will probably make a big difference. Alternatively, get your fibre optic cables checked especially the terminators.

A well setup wireless connection will not make any difference at all where lag (ping) is concerned. Not sure if you can check signal strength in the PS3 though?

u982245: are you having this just with GT5P or also with other games?

I normally have a small amount of lag in my races but last night, in the final few races i did, I got a huge amount of lag, probably the worst ive seen since I started racing online. In one race with P3nT4gR4m, he was 3rd, i was 4th and i could see the top 3 from my position. Anyway, pretty much the last 3 laps of that race, those 3 cars in front where basically going from one side of the track to the other, driving in sandtraps, on the grass, going sideways, spinning around, facing backwards, stopping dead still then appearing miles off in the distance. It was impossible to drive. Especially when i caught up to P3nT4gR4m and just had to back off because i couldnt work out where his car actually was. It got so bad that at one time, I had a collision with him, even though he was no where near me in reality, it was just the lag. Frustrating stuff but i put that down to a one off & maybe it was related to lots of people downloading the update or something with the server.

I had the same problem yesterday - huge lag and in effect cars all around bouncing from my without contact (I did not even hear the sound!). It was so bad that I almost was reported by other GTP member (sorry again to everyone). Sometimes you do not even know that you were the cause of someone's crash until you get a pm - so you do not stop and wait during the race and you look as a punter.

I never had so much lag before and I was always on wireless connection. I'll try to race today and I hope it will be better.

The same thing happened after specII, all the casual gamer's come on-line to see the new cars and up-date's.

Give it a few days and it will be all back to normal:tup:

It's really spoiling my enjoyment.
I have a slow broadband connection, and there is nothing I can do about it. I'm a long way from the exchange so my speed is limited by high SNR.
I'm actually finishing races then sending psn's to other drivers asking if I've hit them. On too many occasions they believe I've punted them. From my point of view I've not been close enough for contact.
It's quite upsetting when I've done my best to race clean and fair.
This evening I've decided to give up racing online, because I'm worried that I'll get myself, and GTP generally, a bad reputation.
:(

Dont give up mate, who cares what others think. I know how bad the lag can be & i just try to drive as careful as possible on those bad days. If i happened to hit anyone, then ill apologize but people will understand if its because of lag. Guys arent going to report you & try and get rid of your GTP tag because of lag, as its not your fault, can't do anything about it.

It seems to be variable, some races i do have it, others dont or half the race will be fine then the rest will be lag city. Perhaps if you encounter lag just leave it for say 30 mins then come back & try again. Im sure this will go away after everything dies down again & the casual players disappear once more :)

Thanks for the encouraging words Supersonic.
By the way I use a wired connection between router & PS3.
I've been persevering with this for a while now, but I'm ending races not knowing whether I've nerfed someone.
Yesterday I was following GTRP-Willi into Spoon. He went a bit wide on entry, so I set myself up for a tight entry but held back slightly so I didn't risk hitting him if he recovered. There was a full cars' width between us, and half a cars' length. He went off the track into the sand. There was no visible, audible or sensory sign of contact, but I spent the rest of race wondering.
I psn'd him afterwards to ask. He replied "By me it was a hit from you, but if it's lag then it's OK".
You might say that's fine, but I've spoilt someone's race. Also I can't expect everyone to believe the lag excuse indefinitely.
So - I'll give it a rest for a while, then maybe try again to see if it improves for me.
