They seem happy to remove transgender people from a society
The Iraqi government are happy to remove transgender people from society. Jaguar just want to sell cars to Iraqi people.

I don't get why people always try and make such a big deal of this kind of thing. The problem is the country, not the manufacturer.

I don't necessarily like the advert, but I don't mind the new logo/branding. And the bottom line is it's doing a good job of getting people to talk about the brand. Plus we haven't even seen the new car yet, it could be really good.

From the teaser it looks interesting...

Might end up looking like a 300C, but it's infinitely better than the I-Pace, even if they leave the camo on.

True, so they just need to make a lightweight MX5 like sports car for me to be interested.
I am now aware they are reinvented.

Hmm ok, but maybe thats not how politics or diplomacy works or sentiments of the public. Think of Ukraine, many governments including ours have banned companies from buying/selling products with Russia. We have chosen a side due to our values. It's not just authorites, citizens are taking matters into their own hands and media helps spread the information about what brands say Unilever or Pepsi are dealing with Russia. In turn there are supermarket boycotts, umm what else, I recall boats in ports were refused docking by the public as suspected of being russian or russian goods even though it was legal trade. We do actualy hold manufacturers to account in other cultures and soverign nations.
When we have a problem with a country now intead of bombing them or invading them like we once did with Iraq. Now we need to make sure they dont get cars in British Racing Green,or New Barbie Pink.
Balancing act though yes?

I actually really like the car. There's some Lagonda Taraf vibes, but without that weird front-end and oddly long windscreen.

I think that'd be more in-line for Lotus, in which case I'd be down to see them try to revitalize the Elan - the exact car that inspired the Eunos Roadster. Either way, I honestly feel bad for anyone who's a fan of UK-based automakers not named Aston Martin or McLaren at the moment.

Potentially rad, potentially Jaguar. Which is odd because they're insinuating that they're getting rid of their heritage. This looks like it could have a lot of heritage design.

People weren't buying Jags when they were traditionally recognisable though. 65,000 units a year globally across 6 models. What's to lose?
Their sales were at an all-time high just before the pandemic. The recent decline in sales is probably related to the fact that they haven’t released anything new since 2018.

Thinking “it must be a brand problem, let’s reinvent ourselves” is just going to hurt them.

I think the new direction is going to be all about the interior. Disco balls and vibrant mood lighting. Fabric textures and comforting spaces.

Can't wait to see what the new generation of Jaguar buyers look like. Where will they come from/what class in society? Which buyers of different brands will make the switch to jaguar?

How urban will the car(s) be? Khaki or Carhartt? Velour track suit or silk sportswear?

I nearly posted this exact thing.
Why is Bryan Cranston, rocking a witches broomstick haircut?
And this

My mate has a theory about how this ad came about, and I reckon he's probably right.

As jaGUar are moving entirely into the high-end EV market, they will be even more directly up against Tesla. This ad seems directed at the same audience that are less inclined to buy a Tesla in recent times as Musk has thrown his weight fully behind MAGA and Trumpism. Maybe that's an overly political hot take, but it's the best explanation I've seen yet for what appears to be an otherwise inexplicably horrid rebrand.

This won't end well. I'll take the "before mid-2027" in the British equivalent of Chapter 7 bankruptcy (that is the liquidation chapter in the US bankruptcy code) pool.

If they can steer Jaguar into being JLR's high-end electric only saloon-based range, then they could have a set of brands that could truely take on BMW and Merc in that segment. Whether that means it needs a Jag 1/2-Series or A-/B-Class sized rival too could be where this new marketing direction stems from. A car of that size doesn't really fit well with their traditional image.

I'm sure the same was said of Mercedes themselves when they launched the A-Class.

That being said, is there any appetite at JLR to release such a model that would compete with the likes of the new Renault 5?

I don't see them going as small as that, that would certainly be off-brand. Unless this rebrand takes them that way, but then why devalue a brand like that? - They have Tata's own range of small electric vehicles that they could start selling in other (first-world) markets if they really wanted to compete with the R5 head on.

They said last year that they've got to go upmarket with high margin products, they're not going to mess about with high volume low margin products - it's simply a risk they don't need to take. They want to be more Bentley than BMW - hence the concepts are going to be large luxury saloon, large luxury coupe, and large luxury SUV.
