After 20 Plus Years on Gran Turismo, I Tried iRacing

Count me as another convert. Iracing is so much cleaner, and therefore so much more fun.
Gt7 requires that you work the system and basically cheat to advance and do well in online play. Iracing, so far, seems to be the complete opposite by having a specific Sporting Code and a penalty system that adheres strictly to it. I know I’ll never be crazy fast in either, or any, game or sim but I also know I’ll never be dirty. Gt7 rewards bending of the rules, Iracing rewards clean driving and racecraft. Perhaps there was a day when the opposite was true for Gt7, but accepted driving standards for Sport mode are currently pathetic- without a care to be given for any change to those standards.
I bought my pc specifically for Iracing and these reasons. It was a high price to pay to pay but thus far I would do it again instantly. I have about thirty races in Iracing in the past week in different disciplines and classes. Other racers still make mistakes and exhibit some aggresive behavior, but the malicious and intentional feeling hasn’t been present at all. If it ever is, I know theres a pretty effective reporting system and stewards to handle it.
For me, Iracing is just better. And, more importantly it’s just way more fun due to the fair and well balanced online racing. Plus, as an important add-on, the VR implementation is incredibly well dialed in. Now that all is set up I actually find it more plug-n-play and much more stable than gt7, which was another pleasant and unexpected surprise.
