Ages of consent, should they be raised?

Here in England, we have many ages of consent for many different things.
Personally, i think they are all stupid ages, as there are so many different ones, some people say 'they get confused' (how i sometimes don't know)

I'm gonna be 16yrs old on Tuesday 6th September, and when that happens I will be able to these basic things:

1 - Have sex
2 - Get Married (with parents consent)
3 - Allowed to Smoke
4 - Allowed to play the lottery

To be perfectly honest, i think these are all too young. You can smoke at 16 which is potentially more dangerous than drinking, yet you can't drink til your 18 over here. Also, you can't learn to drive til your 17.

I wondered really how these ages of consent for numerous things changed in different countries around the world, and do you think these ages are too young?

Should there be a Universal age when you are allowed to do pretty much anything, or are these differing ages of consent a good idea?

I think your post is a bit childish. Drinking can put other people at risk wilst the risk of you hurting someone else is minimal in the fact that they can be poassive smoking. Many people have sex way before 16 and allot of girls teenage mags say it should be lowered as not to make kids "criminals".

I think the ages are all good as it is although I wished one could start drivng 16 but im biased as im just 17.

In Canada, it was (until 2 weeks ago)

1- Sex - 14 (now 16, still 14 in Quebec)
2- Get Married - 19
3- Allowed to buy ciggarettes - 19
4- Allowed to buy and play lottery tickets - 18
5- Allowed to obtain 1rst stage ("G1") drivers' license in Ontario - 16
6- Allowed to be in a bar unnatended - 16
7- Allowed to purchase alcohol - 19
8- Allowed to enter a strip club - 18 (I think)

Wow, that's very strange to me. Because where I live(California, USA) at age 16 you can:

Drive. Not much else. Actually you can drive at 15.5, but that's about to change.

The age of consent is 18 here, but in other places it is MUCH, MUCH lower. It is absolutely insane.

I am 16, and I think that 18 is a good one. I know too many people who are incredibly stupid(they drink way too much, smoke tons of pot, etc.). They don't need more stupid things to do, hopefully they will feel the pressure not to do it.

Age 16 - Drive.
18 - Drink.
Age 21 - Smoke.

I know no-one takes any notice of ages of consent, but they are just arseholes as far as i'm concerned, ignorant people who think they're grown up, but oh no, they are far from it.

Do i want sex? Not partically...
Do i want to play the lottery? Not partically either

Rules are there for a reason, and i think anyone who can't wait for things to happen are just tits really...

If kids want to have sex its fine by me as long as theyre both around the same age and over 14 oh and doing it safely.

If at 16 I had to pay tax then I sure as hell want to be able to play the lottery at 16 if I want to. As for smoking if they raised the age to 18 then I think alot of kids wouldnt be able to take up smoking as by my school the younger ones just got the 15-16 years olds to buy fags for them.

I'm not a vegetarian, and yes, i have a girlfriend, and yes, she is nice, and maybe we'll...y'know, but not yet, i don't think i'm ready. well i know i'm not cos i ain't even 16 yet, but i mean i won't be ready for atleast another 2 or 3 years.

Sex never crosses my mind...

Anyways, enough bout that, however you aren't the first person who has said that!

The first time you have sex - especially if you're a girl, or if it's with a girl whose first time it is - is crap.

Odds are, you'll not last long ("Oh wow... I'm having se... Whoops"), and you've just drilled a hole in her which, as you can imagine, will hurt like hell. She won't forget it in a hurry, that's for sure.

Tip for guys who find girls annoying after some time. Dont go out with dumb chicks. My count of dumb chicks is high and they are the worst culprits cause they just chat a load of breeze allday. I mean all girls cant stop talking but dumb girls talk about the stupid things and so it annoys.

Love is a matter of perspective imo, different people love others for sometimes very different reasons. I can say I love my girl, but she does my head in at times, I deal with that because I'm sure I do her head in from time to time as well, but also I don't believe in a perfect match, I think you can get close but when you've been with someone for a while you'll always find faults, wev'e been togaetherfor almost a year now and she stays at mine over the weekends. My GF talks about football, so thats cool. The scariest part is, she knows he off-side rule.

Look goth boy I dont use steroids or any other performance enhancing drugs. As for steroids some actually lower your sex drive and some raise them. Some give you difficulties in getting a erection wilst other make it bigger. Steroids can be used safely to a extent but only for men 21 and older.
