AI could be better

I have a lot of respect for what F1:CE has done with the AI. However, I think on Hard level the AI drivers should press harder to overtake. The pattern that I notice looks like this:

If there are good AI drivers (Ferrari, Mclaren, Renault) in front of you, they will drive fast & if they get a few seconds lead they are usually impossible to catch, as they just continue to pull away. On the hand, if you are in front - starting from Pole for eg. - the AI drivers tend to drive slower & unless you make a serious mistake, they will not press hard to overtake you.

This seems to me like the opposite of what should happen. Ideally, you would want the AI to not pull away too aggressively when in front, but battle hard to catch you when they are behind. That way there would be a lot more tight racing.

What does anyone else think?

I think they press hard enough when behind. Imagine if I had AI drivers pushing harder then now, then I'd be driving half the laps defensively. Often they drive ruthlessly on-line when chasing and there are particular turns on every track where one need to watch out I feel. For example turn 4 at Sepang. I see what you mean and agree that they are hard to catch if they slip past. Yesterday I was racing Sepang on hard and made some mistakes that they quickly exploited. From the lead down to 4th because of this. Then I just snapped and thought "STUFF this I WILL catch Button if it is the last thing I'll do, I don't care if I crash and burn" and hit several laps with worn tires on low 1:33s and one high 1:32. That is what it took. And I DID catch him and overtook him after the straight (you should have seen me shaking my fist in the air and yelling "TAKE THAT BUTTON" out loud). The happiness was shortlived though. He rammed me at, guess where, yup, turn 4.
I shut down the game at that point.

that's one reason why i've been trying look for people to play on LAN with... i think i'm the only one in this whole state who plays this game hardcorely..

I know that when I race at Catalunya or Silverstone, I pretty much have to be error-free the entire race to keep them behind me. If I do fall out of first, I have to drive as hard to catch them. The problem I have is that the AI will T-bone me in a slow corner if they are close enough. Funny, it's usually Fisi!!!

My main concern is during practice under my hotlap and the AIs outlap. The AI will be pushing hard when behind me and when I'm with an inferior team and perhaps go wide they will overtake in their classic bullish way and right after that completely get off the throttle since I'm on a hotlap and they're not. Sush assholes. That really annoys me, because they make my attempt go from bad to completely ruined. They might push me so that I spin and crash. Very sportsmanlike when there is not even a race going.

What I notice all the time is: if I fall behind the leaders in the first 2 or 3 laps, they will usually pull further & further away from me. On the other hand, the cars behind me will typically end up falling further & further behind me, leaving me racing on my own. There seem to be very few/no races where I'm actually battling with other cars over the whole race - the only time that happens is when I'm in the lead, but not too fast - then the AI cars will keep pace with me.

They certainly drive fgast enough. They makes attempts to pass me, but I'm a fortunately good defender. I held off Massa and Raikkonen on hard difficulty in a Toro Rosso at Bahrain for 15 minutes, and I got 4th place for it.
