I've heard a few people mention of BB gun's and airsoft guns around this hobby forum so i thought i'd make a thread. I would be interested to know if anyone here goes airsofting or has done. For those who don't know airsoft is a sport similar to paintball (except much better :sly: ), you use guns that fire 6mm plastic BB's at around 330fps (200mph) muzzle velocity and around 16 rounds per second. I really don't want to be "that guy," but use the search function next time before you start a new thread...chances are someone's beat you to it on this site. If you enter "Airsoft" in the search field you come up with 5 seperate threads in the Hobbies section, including this one:

Welcome to GTP, by the way!!

There've been many Airsoft threads, none of them really going that far.

Just for the record though i own a GBB KSC USP Compact. 20 in the clip, 1 in the spout it's good fun for target practice. I went through a phase of really loving Airsoft, but i've gone off it a bit now. Always wanted to get a PSG though.

uh oh forgot to search, i'm going to get flamed :scared: Sorry sorry sorry :nervous:

I have a CA M15A4 Tactical carbine, i used to have a PSG1 but to be honest it was not very good for the money i paid.

My friend had a PSG-1 airsoft rifle. Spring loaded and fairly accurate, but the clip carried a pool of ammunition behind a spring platform. The pool held around fifty rounds, while the platform held I think 15 at the most. "The slide locks, so you'll have to reload after each shot." lol (I play MGS series too much). Unfortunately, the thing broke pretty easily. It was an all-plastic design, minus, of course, the springs and pivots.

Another of my friends had an SG 551. It, too, was all plastic like the PSG-1 and it wasn't as good, but it was cool to look at. Neither were practical for the forest combat we did, but they were better than the .45 replica airsoft pistols the rest of us were using. lol

I have a weatherman handgun ( 27 in a clip 9 without cocking once and a built in red dot laser)
I also have a sig sauer p226 and p228 (with silencer)as well as a couple of colt pockets.
All of my guns are 0.5 apart from the colts which are 0.2.

I've owned a few guns in my time, some with mods, some without:

-TM M4A1 (probably the most ideal gun at the time)
-TM P60
-Maruzen APS2 SV (Steyr SSG PIV replica) with some Bushnell rifle scope on it.
-Maruzen Mac 11 (bolt froze and exploded under heavy use)
-WA M92F Perfect
-TM Glock 17 springer
-TM Glock 18c (slide cracked)
-TM Glock 19
-TM Benelli M3 (the internals were pretty much exploded when I sold it but I didn't know)

All of these guns have been sold except for the springer, which I like to bust out and shoot people who I haven't showed it to before.

It's funny.

My reason for selling all the other ones was because not simply enough people were interested in this rediculously expensive hobby.

Although the guns are cool and all, I would recommend paintball to anyone interested in getting into a gun sport. Just go to a paintball field/store and talk to them.

Most shop employees have knowledge of airsoft and will gladly explain why their beloved sport is so much better, and I agree with all of them.

Paintball > Airsoft for sooo many reasons.

Problem with paintball is the C02 you have to buy, and the hoppers for ammo are freaking huge and it detracts from the overall realism. I can tell you 9 times out of 10, the first thing I'll see is the hopper of another player in paintball when I'm playing in the woods. It's the first thing I'll look for, too.

Airsoft is not quite as expensive. You can re-use most of the ammo, you don't need C02 (on most models), and they are much smaller and more realistic in weight and size. Problem is police aren't too keen on the airsoft guns, if you know what I mean.

I know somone who nearly got shot by police for carrying a bb gun in public, most people however are not that stupid. If I am transporting a bb gun I will carry it unloaded with the clip removed in one pocket and will not take it out untill I reach my destination, the clip will go in another pocket.

I used to love BBs. I've had countless hand guns, including extended barrel Colt .45 Gov. My favorite was the H&K MP5.

After moving to the States, there aren't many good BB guns. Here, they are high powered metal pellets and BBs, you kill bird with. I had one pellet air rifle, but that was it.

Today, I've moved up to real rifle...... well, kind of. A .22. It's fun to play with. I am kind of interested in paint ball. It's fun to shoot actual people, especially your buddies. :D

You carry your bb gun in your pocket?

In the UK, you're supposed to transport airsoft guns in a sealed package, with the clip empty and separated.

Honestly i'm not surprised people nearly get shot when their mentality is to carry bb/airsoft guns around in their pockets.

It depends on the power and barrel of the gun, if the gun is a perfect replica (which is rare) it should be carried in a sperate container,

A BB gun's barrel is usually a slightly different shape to its real counterpart to allow the bb to exit. A BB gun often carries its maker's name on the barrel (e.g 3PSA) an a small silver sticker with its power rating on it in joules (e.g Power 0.5.) BB guns are also usuallly made out of ABS plastic.

Keeping the clip empty and seperate is just good practise and it means even if the police or public mistake it for a real gun the will not deem you as a threat.

Needless to say only those with a death wish wave a bb gun around in public.

We went shooting in the woods today. *Deliverance banjo music* While we were shooting real guns, my buddy brought a battery powered BB gun. We started taking turns shooting each other with it, and it was fun as hell!. It was a mini MP5 6mm gun, and I guess you could get one for about 30 bucks. I think I'm going to get one. Currently looking into a cheap handgun, but I will be getting a battery powered full automatic in $50-range. I can't wait until we get enough people together for a war game. :D

All airsoft guns have been banned in Australia, so I bought real handguns instead... go figure. Sold most of them now and only have one left which is also for sale.

I did have a steal real weight replica of a Beretta 92, it was a CO2 airgun in semiautomatic (double action) that fired .177 lead pellets, I was able to get that because of my Handgun license but I can't get a airsoft.

What was the reason for the ban? In a country like Australia, I couldn't imagine why the government would worry about little stuff like airsofts....

Australia is completely anti-firearm, even cap guns are sensitive here (must not look real).

The only reason Handguns remain is because they are used for sport, even then they make it hard for you. Airsoft isnt used for sport so they are banned.

I get a mixed feeling about this, but I tend to agree with you government. Few years ago, I would have been all for firearm ban, but now that I kind of enjoy guns......... :D Ban on airsofts, however, sounds like they went too far.

We have strict laws and guidelines on who can have and use firearms, they are hard to obtain, so firearm offenses from legal owners are extremely rare but there are offenses from time to time from illegal firearms which then legal owners suffer, the joy of shooting at a range has now been overcome by the legal crap I need to go through to keep them so I have given the up for sale.

Airsoft are banned because the government sees no use for them (entertainment is not good enough) and believe they will be used for the wrong reasons, we have had officers shoot people because they believed it was real. We do have paintball though but they are just as hard to get as real firearms.

*EDIT* I apologise for being off topic.

Ooh Airsoft...excellent :)

i have a Weirauch HW35 which my father got quite a while back and its amazing considering its age...damn rats don't stand a chance :)

I also have a Crossman 357 revolver for plinking and that too is pretty good, however one C02 canister only lasts for something like 45-50 shots until it starts losing a lot of its power.

will get some pics up soon.
