What did you do in GT7 today?

Today I went digging into the Nissan Skyline Silhouette '84, a car which I enjoy very much.

One odd thing about it is that the tachometer appears to have seen better days. To my eyes, it's suffering from what I'd call "Sticky Needle Disease". It jumps around rather than operating smoothly.

You can see this behavior in my YouTube video -

It's most obvious when the sunlight is playing on the instrument panel, as in the cropped screenshot below. Close inspection shows that some of the lettering is showing signs of wear, such as under the FUEL gauge, so maybe it's just consistent with the age of the car, and lack of replacement parts after 42 years.

That's not unheard of with old chronometric Tachometers used on older race cars(such as the old Smith types). These types of mechanical tach setups are often driven off the camshaft and as such update more sporadically.

Not every car back then had such jumpy tachs, as there were a variety of mechanical tach solutions over the years, such as those using cable or vacuum systems, and each setup or system had it's nuances and levels of sophistication, and without knowing what this particular car used exactly, it may or may not be accurate.

Anyways, I tested'em and ended up selling some of those cars in order to keep trimming down my garage to the cars I like better.

Be careful with this - when the ability to sell cars was introduced, I instinctively sold off all of the cars that I didn't like, then found out that for the Extra Menu books, a car doesn't count if you've previously owned and sold it, resulting in me having to repurchase cars again.

Now I just hold on to all cars regardless of whether I like them or not.

For what I actually did "today" (see: yesterday).
Completed the 5 weekly challenge races. Pulled an AMG Bore Up S for a car I'll likely never use from the parts ticket, and a GR.1 car (I forget which one) that I already own from the car ticket, so sold that for 1.4mill credits.

Hello and thank you for your reply! I just don't think the rewards from the extra menus are really good to justify getting and keeping all cars. It is just another "100% checkmark" in our dash.

I'm guilty of grinding and completing the car collection though, but I do regret the time spent grinding just to get cars I either won't use or I'm not interested.

As I start to be bit tired of endless grinding I decided to do custom race to Alsace village.
Race conditions start at midnight, fuel and tires x 10 and 6 laps. I try to race non-race cars and mostly I’ve been doing pp 500-600 cars. It’s been a blast and VR2 really makes it fun. Too bad the payoff is 110k for 15 minutes but other than that it’s a nice way to learn cars.

Last update made many cars much more enjoyable

Just more Nurburgring laps.

It was a goal to make a Nissan Silvia S13 tune a little less unruly with similar pace, which I succeeded in doing, but ended up crashing on the way down from a jump nearing the end of the lap during testing.

Then taking some lessons from that car, went to adjust the C7 Gr.3, trying to match the difference in loads at speed. The target balance was about +0.58% rearward at 119.483mph, which turned out to not be possible due to the rear downforce limits (or my calculation work).

Interestingly, the time I got is only about a second faster than my other Gr.3 time near release. I was under the impression that the cars got slower. Using this time as 3% off a potential #1 ranked time, that would make a ~6:03.4XX possible with this setup. Not WR worthy. Not yet.

Since I was off of my target back in October, this is giving me hope. Maybe a little too much...

Entered a Tesla Model 3 in a race at one of the Dragon tracks, and at 10X fuel consumption, it ran out of electrons in 5 miles (or a little over one lap).

Is there a way to upgrade the triple A's to double A's? 🤔

Went to the License Center to set some times for the Master B license tests, improving 6 records and lagging behind the others by hundreths or even tenths. The handling of the Mercedes 190 E in B-7 is honestly against the Geneva Convention.

Picked up 3 top tens for tests B-5, B-8, and B-10. I know damn well none of them are safe and that the top guys are snoozing right now.

Roulette tickets gave 500,000 Cr. from yesterday and 30,000 Cr for today. Bought a second XNR Roadster.

Wrapping it up with a one-make race in the Amuse Nismo 380RS at Daytona.

Having chosen that 1950s Maserati, I then set up a non-Sophy AI race on Mount Panorama. The system gave me 19 opponents, of which 9 were "Safety Cars".

Seemed a bit excessive until I realized they were systematically try to make me crash. Three tried to push me off the track, one rather successfully. I wonder if Sophy plays more fairly.

Had a good practice race at Spa, then chugged on to soem practicing at Interlagos for tomorrow Manus cup race Round 4. Got a good time and qualifying was a meess as a silly rench guy A rated driver putned me, then naother spun out around me on last corner then started crying on chat. His insolence pushed me to work hard int eh lobby race and I gained 7 positions and finished 5th!

A couple of routine things for me...

-- Host Terminates --

Paddock

Daytona International Speedway

10 Laps: Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 / 614 HP / 2824 lbs. / 748.19 PP / ~1:41.5 (RM)

Trial Mountain
8 Laps: Toyota GR Supra RZ '19 / 335 HP / 3351 lbs. / 545.87 PP / ~2:11.8 (SH)
Some cars got their first miles today.

  • Jaguar D-type '54
  • Porsche Mission X '23 - Hypercar Parade @ Yamagiwa+Miyabi
  • Pagani Zonda R - World Touring Car 800 @ HSR

I went into all of the Weekly Challenges overpowered enough to safely complete them all without more than 1 full attempt. Only half a lap extra for the Special and WTC800 events.

The Mission X is a beast and I will be looking forward to driving it again :)

3-star roulette ticket gave a small stack of 5000 conniptions.

Grinded out the weekly challenge races. Used the 5th race (GR.3, 20 laps around High Speed Ring) as an excuse to bust out the detuned Mazda 787B. Ran a no pit-stop race and ended 2-laps ahead of everyone else.

Got a 5-star ticket for my daily grind and somehow managed to pull 30k from it, so Gran Turismo being Gran Turismo there!

Now I get to return to the La Sarthe PP700 grind, only need to do 2 more hours of grinding to 20mill credits... and then wait for the McLaren F1 to hit Hagerty again.
