Allen ISD of Allen Texas just finished building a High-School football stadium with a price-tag of $60 Million dollars.

I have mixed feelings about this stadium. On one hand I really like playing in it as part of the Allen Eagles Band, however I don't really like the fact that they payed $60 Million Dollars for it while teachers in the district lost jobs.

It seats 18,000 people. Our first game is Friday, against Southlake Carrol. It'll be aired on a whole bunch of local and national news stations, as well as ESPN if I remember correctly.

Good lord! This is high school?

My school has 10 rows of grandstands on the left and right sidelines, but that is it.

Please tell me that sponsors and private donors were the only financial contributors to this construction job. Anyone?

Make it up if you have to...because I don't see a definitive answer to that question.

What a waste of valuable money. A high school football stadium? Only 18,000 seats? $60,000,000?

An absolute waste of cash.

Sorry, no can do:

Huffington Post article
The $59.6 million dollar, 18,000 seat project was funded from a $119 million bond package approved by voters in 2009.

It's cool and all but is it really needed?

And here is our local "stadium" for the rugby team.
monastery_field_02.jpg

There's about 20 seats not including the bench, and at senior big games, there can be around 3,000 but it still is no where near full.

A couple of big seating areas in you could probably get it up to 25,000 at a cost of around 5-10 million I would say, and it's in a natural bowl, how are they spending so much?:yuck:

Disgusting.

This is one of the reasons why this country is in the toilet. We spend massive amounts of money on sports, but make massive cutbacks to education.

This is pathetic. My school has a field with 4 rows of bleachers and our field is natural grass, but its muddy all the time due to rain. Did I mention we're the best team in the province? But meanwhile in Texas, some highschool gets a $60 million stadium? This is nonsense.

Dumb, just dumb. This is High School for Gods sake. They do not need a facility like this.

I'm pretty sure this is a great example of democracy at work. That, and the 8000 season ticket holders are plenty enough to justify the cost which should be quickly recouped. Voters got a chance to decide where their money would go, so what's wrong with that?!

Voters approved paying for the stadium.

Plus half of the money went for the school to help fund it's Fine Arts program, as well as it's Career In Technology program. You can get things like Cisco certification at the high-school alone, not to mention college credits.

Neither my secondary school (3rd largest in UK) or sixth form(also large) have any kind on stands, they just have a field and an astroturf pitch and this is considered good. All of you Americans need to stop complaining with what your have.

It is stupid to have a stadium this modern for high schools, if it was privately funded then I would have less to complain about as its their money to spend, however from the state it is all taxpayers money, and you wonder why america is in debt.

And not a single roof.

The Welsh Secondary Schools Cup Final is played at the Millennium stadium, that's pretty cool at 16. Shame we only made quarter finals.

Our school is 4-A (largest classification in the state) and after winning 4 straight state titles from 2004-2007, we got a new set of bleachers. That's it. And its still a very nice place to watch a football game, the home side probably seats 1,000 comfortably and the away side probably holds 500 more. Last night it was about full, and at $7 a ticket, we aren't wasting any money on that. Actually, I believe our field upkeep, new bleachers, electronic scoreboard, and part of our fieldhouse were paid for by fundrasiers/ticket sales.

Only problem is now that we have all this, we suck at football. We lost 42-14 last week, and 35-14 last night to the worst team in town.

I know it loses the effect when so late... but...

Hmmm I would absolutely love to quote yourself here...

"PUPIK - <name inserted> Please refer to AUP, "you will not willingly post information that you know to be unfactual or untrue"

Sorry, Pupik, sometimes I can't help myself.

It was my best laugh today though. Thanks for that.

Ah. I was wondering what happened to the other half of the money from the bond issue. I was more or less suspecting that the stadium funding had been piggybacked onto something totally unrelated but urgently needed. It would appear that isn't the case here, though.

It's 🤬 outrageous.

Just phenomenal our country does things like this over kids running around a field playing with a ball. Especially when it comes tax time.

The problem with democracy is that people are morons. Yeah, they voted it in, that sure as hell doesn't mean it's the best use of the money.
If it really turns a profit and the money isn't exploited afterwards..Nvm, it will be. Toilet money.

And your complaint is just that you don't get one too?
$60 million dollar high school stadiums for everyone! :)

When I was in high school, my team was a contender during each of the years that I attended(won a district title once), and what do we get to show for our efforts? A fresh coat of paint after a rivalry game defaced the home side bleachers. We also started expanding the main building of the high school to include a senior wing and new fine arts rooms.

Our field is uneven, unlevel with 4 sets of bleachers on 1 side.

Eh. The neighboring school district built a football stadium a few years back for a sum of $72 million. It's a pretty impressive structure too. I guess everything is bigger in Texas.

The thing about the stadium is all the shops are run by students, the audio is run by students, and so is the video for TV. Everything is pretty much run by students. It's like a large learning lab.

Man football is way intense in Texas. I have a cousin who goes to a High school in South Lake and his stadium is pretty impressive.

But $60,000,000?

Dang.
