The Alfa Romeo 4C is without a doubt one of the best looking sports coupes on the market. And with a small but punchy 1.8 litre turbocharged engine producing 240 horsepower, the lightweight – it is after all based on a carbon fiber and aluminium chassis – the 4C can also provide some serious performance in the form of a 258 km/h top speed and a 4.5 second 0-100 km/h time.
But for the Italian firm Lazzarini Design that’s nowhere near enough. They’ve drawn up plans for a Ferrari-engined version of the 4C called the Definitiva, which sees the original straight-4 engine ripped out and replaced with a 4.3 litre V8. As if that wasn’t enough, they’ve then bolted on a twin turbocharger system from Hennessey. The result is a car with 738 horsepower and 532 lb-ft of torque. Lazzarini Design think that will be enough to allow the 4C Definitiva to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 9.5 seconds at 137 mph (221 km/h).
In addition to the massive changes taking place under the skin, the bodywork of the Alfa Romeo 4C Definitiva has also come in for some serious work. There’s a new front bumper, side skirts, wider wheel arches, a roof scoop, vented hood, rear bumper with diffuser and large rear wing.
The first example of the Lazzarini Design Alfa Romeo 4C Definitiva is currently under development and the company estimates the prototype will cost in the region of $310,000 to build.
