Thanks, phattboy.

I worked at making changes to the A310 and it handles pretty well now.

Something odd happened twice, though. After making changes, the game just dropped them all. The odd thing was that the car lost all handling difficulties. Since the settings looked to be the defaults, I was stunned and can't figure out why it handled so well. After I made another change or two, the car went back to causing problems again.

Weird. (With all of its little problems, I have to say GT4 is so unfinished and will have to see if the Greatest Hits version has the bug fixes we need.)

I also learned how the weight guage works, since it's a bit obscure. The scale goes from -50 to +50. The bias is to the front if it is negative and to the rear if positive. Since I presume the "0" point represents the centre of gravity, then the negative number is senseless. Both should be positive.

Cheers,

That is bizarre... Now that I think of it, though not with this car in particular, I think that has happened to me a couple of time with other cars

The weight thing is goofy :dopey: and difficult to understand/senseless.

But... Glad to hear you got it figured out, setup and winning I presume? 👍

That car is one of the most fun to drive. Just brake early, turn in, and let the back end SLIDE! Too much fun :) .
Ok, six years later, I'm reviving this thread to say that I'm suprised at how much I enjoyed the Renault Alpine Cup series in the A310 (won at special conditions (Opera?).

I started with arguably modest mods to the car; racing brakes, stage 2 tuning, racing chip and soft racing tires.

But by the start of the third race in, I had turned all the mods off except for the racing brakes and soft racing tires. I also notched the over-steer driving aid higher to move the break-away point up to a higher speed.

I finished the series having come in first every race. I love this car now!

Can't wait to do it again with the A110 prize car.

Why not? He's brought it back with a valid and on topic comment.

I thought it would have been better to create a thread about his story, instead of reviving a thread that has not been posted in for six years to talk about it.

Nah, I'm pretty sure that's what you do if you post something that had already had been done or post something not on topic.

I revived the old thread b/c I feel its better for posterity; in the future, when folks like me search for topics like "Alpine Cup", helpful and interesting content will come up in as few threads as possible; ideally in one race-specific thread IMO.

I know different forums have different practices around reviving old threads. And I assume if the admins/owners of GTP didn't want old threads revived, they'd set an expiration date where threads would automatically lock and archive as is done in other forums I frequent.

Anyway, looks like here at GTP, we each get to decide for ourselves.

And BTW, I know it's a fine line, but I wasn't bragging, I was sharing my delight! (Unlike the torturous, messy nightmare that was the Opel Sppedster series) (well, OK, maybe I was bragging a little)

Rock on!!

👍

Love the Alpine Cars.Very nice.
Apply all inputs gently, get all the braking done when travelling in a straight line.
As for tuning, try playing around with the ballast weight and positioning sliders.

I think that there are times you should revive an old thread (like this example) and there are times when you shouldn't. Thats my opinion.
