Not only do apps like TikTok allow an enemy nation to actively spy on the citizens of another nation, but it also pumps out Chinese propaganda and lies to undermine US interests. American companies are protected by this because of the First Amendment, but we don't need to afford those rights to enemy nations.

Well, that's alarming. I can't go on TikTok because Utah state employees are banned from accessing it on devices that also connect to state-owned software, so I'm not even sure what it can and cannot do at the moment. I wonder if it's all part of the deal Trump made with ByteDance? The whole thing seems incredibly shady, although, at this point, I think I would be more surprised if something Trump and his first lady Elon weren't completely shady.
It is exactly that. The site went down before it officially had to & changed its outgoing message in the US to one praising a deal could be made with Trump. Then, when it came back online, it reportedly thanked Trump. All of this with Biden saying he wouldn't enforce the ban & before Trump was even sworn in. It's political theater at best & under the table dealing at worst.
