Those subject to the Alien Enemies Act would not be allowed to have a court hearing or an asylum interview since they would be processed under an emergency, wartime authority — not immigration law. Instead, they would be eligible to be detained and deported, with little to no due process, under Title 50, the section of the U.S. code housing America's war and defense laws.

Ok, so we're just straight up disappearing people now. No court hearings means that evidence need not be produced. I'm guessing basically no non-citizen will be safe from this. If you are vocally critical of the Trump regime or any policy issue aligned with the Trump regime and you aren't a US citizen, I'm guessing you are now fair game for expulsion.

Six months of Dow Jones and S&P 500 gains wiped out in as many days. Smooth.
In alternative land (aka Fox News), they've tried to argue that the stock market would be even lower under Kamala whilst in the same breath argue we've been too spoiled by a stock market bloom, so this is normal with the hosts just nodding away like this all totally makes sense.

Looks like democrats will vote for the funding bill. Spineless…
Whatever man, they don’t want to look bad again.

**** looking bad at this point.
Someone ****ing buy one of the news stations and start spreading even bigger ******** than Fox News, except in the other direction.
Say that there are rumors that Trump has been ****ing little kids, some senate republicans have been rumored to secretly dismember dogs and cats adopted from a shelter.
I don’t give a ****, make something up that will be universally hated since people will believe anything.
Just don’t say it’s a straight up fact, just make it believable enough since people here love freedom of speech so much.
Time to fight using their own rules.

Its a difficult position and I'd argue that Trump, Musk, and the far right in congress would genuinely prefer the shut down. They'll claim it as victory either way, however.

I'm all for the removal of US alcohol if it means the space on the shelves gets replaced with Vancouver Island, Quebec or Belgian beers. Any Canadian that drinks American watery piss over Canadian watery piss in today's political environment has to be a Trump sympathizer anyway.

If there's one area that Europe is at least equally as good as the United States, whatever your personal preferences are, it's whiskey. Should US whiskeys start slumping in sales, there are plenty of European whiskeys to pick up the slack.

It's sadly pathetic that it even has to come to this.
I always have some decent, single malt whiskey to hand, but I find I have to be in a particular mood for it. As a regular drink I'm more likely to pick up the square bottle (or Gentleman Jack), so it's a case of finding something to fill that hole.

I actually figured you for a Crown drinker. Not sure why.

Touching on a conversation @Joey D , @Exorcet & @TheCracker had in the Ukraine thread, Portugal is choosing not to order F-35s and will look towards Europe.

Portugal's Minister of National Defense, Nuno Melo, announced that the country will not acquire F-35 fighter jets from the United States, considering the current geopolitical context and the unpredictability of US policy.

Melo stressed that, although the Portuguese Air Force's F-16s are nearing the end of their service life, it is necessary to evaluate options that ensure greater predictability and operational safety. He mentioned that European production alternatives are being considered, also aiming at economic benefits for Portugal.

The minister stressed that the recent US stance in the context of NATO and the international geostrategic scenario requires in-depth reflection on the best options for national defense. The predictability of allies is a crucial factor in the decision on the replacement of combat aircraft.

One would assume at some point when even our defense contractors are now possibly losing money as our allies looks towards other suppliers regardless of our "superiority", that someone will finally tell Trump to cut the **** with aggravating our allies.

If they don't want to look bad, the whiplash probably isn't helping:

Even I'm surprised. I'm tempering my disappointment considering I do understand the desire to avoid a shutdown (even though I think it's a mistake), but this flip flopping is so unnecessary.

Especially since earlier reporting that Schumer would cave was mocked after the meeting yesterday. I haven't seen any apologies today.

Rick Wilson (the Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson) says it better than I can and he only uses one letter in the alphabet to do it. The sixth letter.

Language warning in case you don't know the sixth letter. I'm REALLY annoyed.

You blokes are only just now deciding to switch from US Bourbon etc? That ship sailed over a month ago for me.
I'm pretty much done with America at this point and will no longer buy American products unless something drastically changes. I know I am just a drop in the ocean but I don't care, I'll just do what I think is the only appropriate course I can take against a tyrant. Goodbye American Bourbon and hello CC, Tequila and all the other wonderful products produced outside of America.

Oh and ** you Donald J Trump. edit: (and ** you Elon Musk)
And since then... 13 bottles of whisky just from this one Aussie company
2222.png1222.png112.png

Another 7 bottles from this Aussie Liqueur maker so we no longer drink US made liqueurs.

And plenty of Jameson, CC, Aussie beer and Australian made honeycomb espresso martini ingredients too.

I'd say I'm sticking to my guns pretty well.

And just to repeat because I really, really mean it... ** you Donald J Trump. edit: (and ** you Elon Musk)

No, I'm just mentioning efforts to find alternatives to bourbon now. The litre JD Honey was the last one and I got that in the run up to Christmas.

I've gone through a couple of bottles of Disaronno in that time though 😄

Might have to try Crown Royal. Even if it's bad, we can make cocktails and my wife likes nice bottles for stuffing LEDs inside.

I think the last time I drank any American alcohol was a Budweiser at a Canucks game, because nothing else was available, probably 15 years ago. Even then, Canadian Budweiser is a bit different from American Budweiser to my understanding.

I've been drinking local craft and Belgian beers since before everyone started drinking IPAs (and only IPAs...). I guess you could say I'm a proto-hipster. I won't miss American alcohol at all. I can understand being upset if you really like bourbon, but most everything else has just as good or better non-American alternatives.

I'm struggling to find a replacement for Wild Turkey Honey Sting, and we do the fake cork/LED string in the bottle thing too. Mainly the Crystal Head Vodka ones. Luckily it's Canadian.

You know there are options that dont require half a day worth of travel?
I mean, what exactly is American beer?
For chocole I like to like south or west for just a few kilometres.
And crisps? I was in Wales and Ireland for a few monthes and I dearly needed to import German goods to not suffer from bad taste poisoning 🤣
I don't understand your points at all.

American craft beer isn't readily available in UK supermarkets.
Freetrade chocolate is.
And it's harder to boycott crisps when the major brand is owned by PepsiCo.

None of these options require travel or importation.

Might be time to dump stock in American companies which depend upon international tourism.

Two German tourists, Jessica Brösche (29) & Lucas Sielaff (25), were chained, detained for weeks, then deported after attempting legal entry at the San Ysidro border.

Brösche, a tattoo artist, was held for 46 days, including 9 in solitary, after officials found her equipment.

Sielaff was detained for 16 days, denied a translator, and forced to pay $2,744 for deportation.

• His American partner was handcuffed & body-searched for questioning his detention.

Becky Burke (28, British) has been held for 2+ weeks in Washington State with no explanation.

Is Trump determined to destroy America? Did Putin put this idea in his head?

Why is anybody still asking this question?

Don't worry, I'm sure other distilleries and local distilleries will step up to the plate with their own creations. And then when the tariffs and bans go away, those local supplies will be flourishing and the American suppliers will try to step back into those markets finding no demand for them anymore. They'll forever be locked into the small market that Trump created for them. Trying to protect red states means never allowing them to expand beyond their own borders.
