I'm not sure which is worse:
1. Trump ignoring the courts and potentially SCOTUS.
or
2. Trump trying to get into a trade war against China with no leverage whatsoever.
Well I didn't expect SCOTUS to come out and say that due process is a right but for those the government says are in the country illegally.Just to add, the reason this keeps happening and is likely to continue happening through a SCOTUS decision (pretty sure there's an en banc DC Circuit Court decision left before it heads to the Supreme Court) unless an activist majority anoints the executive with powers not provided for by statute* is this isn't by some novel reading of the Alien and Sedition Acts, rather because the action taken has been without regard for the explicit text of the Alien Enemies Act, which requires that those subject to deportation be of enemy nations during a time of war, as well as the circumstances of the statute's earlier uses.
*I'm far from an expert, but I'm calling a reserved 7-2 at SCOTUS with Alito drafting an apoplectic dissent and Thomas joining. I'm not entirely sure why but I actually think Thomas could join the majority or draft a concurrence with gestures intended to appease the rabid base, hence my reservation. I honestly don't see Roberts, Barrett and Kavanaugh giving Trump this one, and Gorsuch is a rat that could but I don't see that happening either.
They also didn't resolve anything about the person who was still wrongfully locked up. He's likely going to die there and no consequences will be faced by the administration.Well I didn't expect SCOTUS to come out and say that due process is a right but for those the government says are in the country illegally.
Alas I also didn't expect the Court to deflect so spectacularly as to simply say that the government must give notice of intent to deport at detention and give those detained the opportunity to petition for judicial review by individual habeas suit, basically a lawsuit challenging the legality of their detention and intent to deport.
Rabid animals that need destroying.
There's a presumption by many he's already dead, and this is the government trying to keep that from being revealed: "Oops, we not only deported him by accident, we also got him killed". There's already another story of a woman who was detained and reportedly committed suicide. They also didn't resolve anything about the person who was still wrongfully locked up. He's likely going to die there and no consequences will be faced by the administration.
I didn't know where else to stick this (maybe the meme thread would have been better, I honestly don't know) but a friend of mine is just...hilariously dumb when it comes to certain things. And seeing where I am, you can safely guess where this is going.
As we're talking about the inevitable price hike of things, he lets out a remark that the tariffs could result in the collapse of certain companies, which is exactly what Trump wants or hopes for. He (Trump) feels we've been getting the short end of the stick, hence the imposed taxes. And if it works out how he (again, Trump) hopes, he'll be lauded as a hero, otherwise he'll be responsible for another depression.
I changed the subject so fast because I gazed at the words for several minutes with my mouth agape, and I didn't want to call him a stupid [expletive deleted] for believing that ridiculous [expletive deleted]. Today, he mentions it again, saying Trump just threatened China about backing off in the next 24 hours or something. I, of course, didn't say anything but in my mind I thought to myself "Wtf is this dipwad threatening China with?"
On the one hand I'm glad I don't follow politics closely or with any sort of regularity because I'd drive myself insane, but at the same time...even I'm not this much of an ignorant ass.
Chronic Grievance Syndrome - its hardcoded into the conservative mindset at this point. My LinkedIn feed is filled with people who firmly believe that the US is being taken advantage of and therefore the tariffs are valid and in some cases should be even higher because the US is the real victim there. Quite a few people even said that they feel very insulted by the fact that other countries are now saying they are unsure about doing business with the US because they can't trust the US anymore.
I've got to ask, how can the country with the biggest and richest economy in the world be considered a victim when they are the one who hold all the power, and have massive influence on other countries' economy?

Trump supporters are gonna be so confused when all MAGA hats are suddenly more than twice the priceTrump to impose 104% tariffs on China tonight.

Of course, this comes after confirmation that the EU offered the Trump administration a "Zero for Zero" tariff deal two weeks ago, but Trump turned it down - on the basis of correcting a trade imbalance that Trump personally believes is unfair; and yet, his corrective measures are likely (if not certain) to do far more damage than any imbalances that Trump feels the need to correct.
Slightly further. Trump is still proclaiming America was at its peak during the late 1800s-early 1900s just because tariffs were wildly used & income tax wasn't re-established yet. Those "traditionalists" who wanted to go back to when America was a "real country"—I guess they settled on going back to 1929?
That won't bother them. If anything, they'll use it as a sign of how much they love their Bronze idol b/c they willing spent more.Trump supporters are gonna be so confused when all MAGA hats are suddenly more than twice the price
Or they will steal the MAGA hats to show their loyalty.Slightly further. Trump is still proclaiming America was at its peak during the late 1800s-early 1900s just because tariffs were wildly used & income tax wasn't re-established yet.
Don't bother pointing out all the demographic injustice or that even back then, they knew tariffs were a tax on American consumers; the cult doesn't care b/c they still think tariffs work the way Donny tells them they do.

Aren't the only people selling MAGA hats typically MAGA folks themselves? I think these people are too deep in orange bath water with "pride" to steal MAGA products b/c they'd probably think they were stealing from Donny himself.Or they will steal the MAGA hats to show their loyalty.
Perhaps when we all run out of toilet paper again...Aren't the only people selling MAGA hats typically MAGA folks themselves? I think these people are too deep in orange bath water with "pride" to steal MAGA products b/c they'd probably think they were stealing from Donny himself.
There’s still the three rolls of paper towels he threw in the crowd for the world to share.Perhaps when we all run out of toilet paper again...
"You might as well take the number of apples in your kitchen and divide that by the number of bagels you have to calculate your mortgage payment."
The word "share" isn't in the former and current guy's vocabulary. There’s still the three rolls of paper towels he threw in the crowd for the world to share.
