American soccer players and everyone else actually

Hey, I was just curious how many guys on this board who live in America play soccer. I play it and love it but most my friends hate it with a passion for some reason.

Since I'm homeschool I can't play for a school team. I just play rec ball in the U-16 league. I played one season of U-18 when I was 15 cuz there was no U-16 and it was much more brutal tryin to play with people twice your size ( I'm only 5'6" , 115 lbs ) so I'm glad they brought back the U-16. I play almost every position usually startin the games at center D and movin up at half to right foreward.

This is not meant to be discriminant to other nations I was just curious about others in my nation who play. Anyone can share there stories or whatever they like.

I played from when I was about 7 all the way up through high school. Didn't do much after that though. Played a little 3v3 inter-dorm league stuff when I was at college at Univ. of Iowa, but that was about the extent of it up until about 3 years ago. Some old HS friends of mine and I started playing indoor again. We just do it for fun, but its great to get back out and do it. I play keeper, like I have done since middle-school, but occasionally switch up and run mid-defense. I love the sport. Wish it was more popular in the States.

Man, I played, like, a while ago. I stopped playing because of school and everything. I was the best GK in our league at one point. I made the all-star team for 2 of my 3 seasons playing. After the all-star game of the 1st season, the traveling team invited me to play goalie for them. I remember this totally awesome save I made during the game... everyone was like "woah!" Hahaha. I refused to put on goalie gloves (I always hated them) and everyone stopped giving me the people's eyebrow afterwards.

My coaches during the first season were all awesome, minus the head coach. He was a nice guy and stuff, but he just didn't know the game too well. As luck would have it, I've never experienced play on a team who didn't end with a losing season. Because we only won one game during my first season, my assistant coaches (who were awesome. One of them taught me on his own time to be the great GK I was.) both applied to be the head coaches of their own teams. So, all three of my coaches fought to draft me for the next season, but, lucky me (again), I got picked by my same 1st season coach. Needless to say, we only won 2 games that season, and my assistant coaches' teams were both the 1st and 2nd ranked teams in the league. Hahahaha.

The last season was bad because I had a mean coach (he was some kind of ex-player. I think he was an alcoholic too.) and asshole team mates. I sucked at playing goalie that season, too, because I just wasn't into it anymore. I struggled with the position during the 2nd season because we switched to the largest goals. I played LWF when I wasn't in the goal, and scored 3 goals too. One of them was on a breakaway, the other from a FK at the half-way line (GK was leaning on the goal post, so I thought I'd go ahead and give scoring a shot. It worked.), and the last was just a one-timer. Regardless, the season still sucked. Ultimately, I think this bad experience was a large contribution towards my decision to stop playing.

However, I still love the sport. I would play now too, but it would either have to be for school, or with a bunch of 20+ year olds. Haha. I don't think I'm fit enough for either. Not right now, anyway. Too busy. And, yes, I really do wish football was more popular around here... all the time, not just during World Cup month.

Today I started a 2 day tournament consisting of 4-5 games depending on how we do. We played the first two today and won them both 2-1 and 2-0. They were both great games with lots of diciplined passing and just overall good playing by both teams in each game.

Right now my legs are screamin in pain from playin 2 in one day but its worth it. Its fun to play in these tournaments because you get to pick your roster and don't get stuck with people who have now business playin and others don't even try to play.

I played three years of it when I was a kid. I play with my boys, to some degree (passing the ball around), with a soccer ball in the backyard. My oldest son played two seasons, but we're a Baseball family. My son is crazy for baseball, even more so than I when I was his age. He's damn good, too. He'll go to baseball summer camp again this year.

I watched a lot of soccer when i lived in Holland. I watched a lot of F1, too. That's why I like watching both now. I never studied or seriously followed both, just watched and got down the basics. Baseball, I studied. But, I can't stand professional baseball anymore and often don't watch it.

i do.

but i dont play much now for these reasons
1. World Cup so im home all day watching the games

I hate finding soccer schoes... I have really wide feet, and all the soccer schoes at the stores, are sooo narrow. Sometimes I have to buy another $100 pair of schoes cause I grow out of my other one sooo fast.

Well we finished the tournament today and we finished second with a 2-1-1 record for the 4 game tournament. I'm glad its over now cuz I tore my right ankle and knee up. I got the anlke stepped on in the soft spot on the front of your foot and I'm not sure what happened to my knee the outside ligament in it ( the ECL I think not sure tho ) was sore and then it just got worse after I came home, then it started to swell and now it hurts to walk on it but not enough to make me immoblie. So I'm just hobblin around on it for now.
