Yep. I'm not sophisticated enough to pull that off.

Practice, young padawan.

Making a completely new thread from scattered posts is even more work, er...fun.

No, proper English should be used wicths izn't eazy if English is nod my first languge!

:D

Let me rephrase that.

On the other hand, this is a(n) United States of America site so ..............

:D

Well, I don't like typical unitedstatians and their culture (or lack thereof). There. I said it. I also don't like people who use the word 'custom' excessively. I also don't like raisins and my favourite meme is the grumpycat.

Also I don't like the expression 'could of'. It's like someone with just as questionable grammar as mine heard someone saying 'could've' and assumed that it's spelled 'could of'.

:sly:

Here in 'Merica, what folks calls sloppy joes (sandwich) are steamers.

And yeah, I reckon we call tomatoes, "maters."

I do agree with the Brits calling gas "petrol." I think it sounds much better. Gas can really be anything besides fossil fuel.

Is gas just the name for all oil based car fuels, or do Petrol and Diesel have different names?

In New York we call gas cars gasser's and diesels, diesels.

"I need to get some gas"

A statement like that can be used for either type of fuel.

But when you are talking about vehicles like that you usually state the difference.

Steamers are clams.

Actually, Rhode Islanders have as many words for "clam" as Eskimos have for "snow", I think. Littlenecks, cherrystone, quahogs, etc. No idea why.

'Loose meat' is a fantastic way of making food sound wrong. And it's made with 'minced' beef not 'ground' beef!

;)

Even though Australia uses UK-English I spell more with International-English.

Which is a mix of both.

Another word for Penitentiary is Jail in the US but spelt Gaol in the UK.

But no I can no hear a O or the G so why spell it like that?

Other things include

Spelled & Spelt
Learned & Learnt
Spilled & Spilt

I can't hear "zhuh" or an "ill" in there either.

English is an odd language in that it's one of few to use "J" as "juh" rather than "zhuh" - which is why we often hear Newshounds saying "Bay-ghing" (with a juh) rather than "Bay-zhing" (with a zhuh) for the Chinese capital.

So a word written "jail" should sound like "zhay-ill", but we say "jay-ul" for some reason. In "gaol" the a modifies the g from the hard "guh" to the soft "juh" to make "gh-ay" (same as the "g" in "ginger" or "geriatric", but curiously not in "garden" - which comes from both the French "jardin" (zharr-dan) and the German "gart" [as in Stuttgart]). As for the "o"... I have no idea - but there's more examples of "o" being modified to a "u" sound in English that of an "i" doing so...
Spelled & Spelt
Learned & Learnt
Spilled & Spilt
I'll never use a -t for a past participle that can be -ed. "Spelt" to me is a grain crop.

Which is correct?

I meant to say..... This one I think is correct

or

I meaned to say....
