Hello everyone, I'm going to list some pros and cons that I've found. I hope everyone will be civil.
I'll start with a short (not really) review. The game looks wonderful. It is a huge step in the right direction especially when you remember that we are still on PS3. I'm so proud of the work they have done with the game.
But,
There are some things that I have a responsibility to say. Its not all rainbows and sunshine.
Where the game takes so many steps in the right direction, it still leaves me yearning for more. I absolutely love the new cars but there are really not that many more. There is a lack of improvement for any of the cars from GT5. In fact, it's basically a direct port. The graphics on the new tracks and new cars are near next gen but then again all the GT5 content is just that, GT5 content. (But at least you can photo travel with Standards)
The tuning took 2 steps forward with the addition of wheels that have more selection and in most cases larger size in diameter. But then you look at the graphs for transmission and realize it took 2 steps back. The chart is woefully undetailed and there is no theoretical speed so you can see where about your final gear will redline and at what speed. Also, when you change your power limiter, the PP doesn't change in real time while you are adjusting it. Thus making you have to guess, one click at a time. Its these little annoying things that drive me nuts with the GT franchise. How did this make it through the testing phase without being noticed? And Paint. What the **** happened with paint? So....do I have to buy and win different color cars to fill up the paint chips? I guess I can't buy them? Someone didn't think that all the way through.
There are some impressive new tracks. I was blown away by the time and effort that went into them and they are breathtaking. I never thought that I could see a track done as well as my favorite track, Willow Springs Raceway. It is utterly stunning. I realize it is not a super green and luscious environment. But as a real driver and enthusiast from the states, Willow is a mecca of sorts.
But then I raced. It's all going so well, then I realized that my almost 900 hp SRT Charger sound much like my neighbors go-kart. Let me just say. I work at a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealership. I drive the SRT charger at least once a week. It doesn't even sound remotely like that. I don't understand how you can botch the sound that badly. Kaz, come by the dealership with a mic and a computer and we will track the SRT.
Glitches. Oh the glitches. I know its a new game. But I gotta point them out. Almost every race I lose my engine sound for about half a lap after the start. Happens a lot. Also the game does crash some. Not like GT5, but it does.
And lastly. Money. You had to have known I was going there. It takes so long to get any money. Eventually I am going to run out of money and races to beat and have to repeat races to farm up enough money to buy the next car. And If you want a 20,000,000 car, then enjoy a week of farming until then. Now I realize that this is probably how the game SHOULD have been since GT5. But a week ago I would join a seasonal event and earn 300,000 cr. a race. What happened to that?
Tuning is more expensive then ever, and so are the new cars. And now I can spend real money on GT money. Well how convenient. Make earning harder so I am more inclined to be lazy and buy your 500,000 for $5.00. Really guys? At first I wasn't buying into the hype but the more I play the more disappointed I am at PD for pulling that. Hey but at least I can go to the moon.....I guess that is a plus?
So here is the list.
Pros:
Awesome tracks
Excellent new cars
Wheels look sweet (And different sizes)
Tuning is expanded and there is nitrous!
The suspension options look sooooo much better.
All GT5 cars (for the most part) are back
Coffee break challenges are sweet
All cars are available to you from the start
Photo travel locations looking stunning
The music is great.
Online lobbies look a ton better. And they seem stable
Tire and suspension improvements are amazing
Game feels a lot faster
Single player feels more like there is a point to me doing it
More american mades and SRT love
Cons
Glitches need fixing
Sounds are still bad on a ton of the cars (Hemis are the biggest offenders)
Standard car models have not really improved
Not too many new cars
The money system is both more difficult to earn and feels scammy
A lot of the cars still feel boaty
No real story mode
No livery editor
Transmission layout leaves me confused
tuning needs more live updating
There is a lot of motion blur that I see. May just be me.
Lack of ways to get paint chips
High paying seasonal events are gone
still no drag strip
Top gear test track is gone.
The abundance of slightly different japanese cars is frustrating as it was in GT5
I can't think of more at the moment. I hope people can take what I've said the right way. I still love this game, this franchise, the company, and the vision. I just want them to prosper further.
