And up against the A45 AMG.. is the Audi S1!

I don't know why anyone would think the Audi S1, a limited production run of a B-segment hatch, would compete against a production C-segment hatch.

The obvious competitors from the VAG are the Golf R Evo / Audi RS3 (if it ever comes out), those two might be the same car, currently the closest thing is the Golf R or Audi S3, but I just don't think they can match the performance levels quite yet.

EDIT:
The conclusion of S1 vs A45 must be your own quickly formed opinion. Like the previous articles stated, the A45 is likely made to compete with the RS3. Audi making a 250hp hatch to compete with a 370hp hatch just makes no sense.

Yeah, that 👍

Exactly. The A1 base is a compact city hatchback, the AMG is based on a C-Class saloon.

It wouldn't surprise me to find that the S1 accelerates very well but if it suffers from the same engine imbalance as the old S3 then it'll be all bendy and horrid in corners.

Its a funky little thing that we'll never see here, and that's fine I guess. It'd be priced $15k higher than the already rather nice Fiesta ST, no idea what kind of market share Audi would expect with something like that.

Fair enough, but Ford and Audi are in separate leagues.
