Anger in Pakistan over US air strike (AFP)

This is an paleolithic thread but I bump it in order to post the news that Pakistan's interior minster has apparently announced permanently closing its borders to NATO supply routes into Afghanistan. We'll see how permanent that really is.

You can imagine the Chinese rubbing their hands with glee. I predict they may eventually flood into Afghanistan from the east to exploit minerals and strategic crossroads, and will shortly join in a stronger military alliance with Pakistan.

Respectfully submitted,
Steve

Pakistan's playing with fire - I hope they know what they're doing.

History is yet to furnish us with an example of any entity that successfully that ran with the hair and hunted with the hound.

I wonder how much better off Pakistan's situation would be if Benazir Bhutto had lived and ascended to the leadership of the country...

Its quite a shame that Bhutto is dead, but at the same even if she was alive she would've just been another western lapdog. In the end though its nice knowing that Pakistan is starting to assert its sovereignty and stand up to the western bullies e.g. american and NATO.

^They are probably finally getting the balls to stand up to America is because Pakistan is becoming friendlier with China, the new big guy on the block.

Well, the bottom line to me is that Pakistan is not our ally. Or at least not when we really need their cooperation. They obviously sold us out when it came to Bin Laden, so why should we trust them at all?

We shouldn't, and recent history suggests that. But the main reason we can't afford to lose Pakistan to more roguish elements is because those nukes are very luscious to terrorist groups.

It's a question of how America should change it's policy on Pakistan more so than outright severing it as many in the middle america is calling for.

India would rather have America than China to leash Pakistan.

Yeah, Pakistan needs to understand who the man is. We give them money, they give us cooperation.
