^ There was a complete series for sale in a Japanese bookstore called Book Off in Redondo Beach, CA. It had a total of 9 sealed volumes of Countach in mint condition!! I hate being broke...

So, I'm not really big on anime or manga, but I'd wondered if there were others about cars besides the obvious Wangan Midnight and Initial D. I see this thread and start looking through posts in order when I decide to look up the one I'd not heard of, Kanojo no Carrera. I'm not looking for any sort of fanservice (and did I find quite a bit in my perusing through Google Images), but if this particular car...

...is in it, I'm interested.

Well i just started reading Kanojo No Carrera and it was... Interesting.

A few sexy images of women too but i did not expect that lol

Wow, it's kind of surreal seeing a thread still active with posts I made four years ago. I'm too used to forums where stuff disappears after a few days nowadays.

Sadly, there's not much in the way of new motorsports anime or manga. Over Rev has had some updates, though.

Dude, I love Book Off. The best one is in Gardena, IMO, right next to the new Tokyo Central Market, which is a pretty fun place too.

Not really actual motorsports, but it is about (toy) cars and racing.

Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go!! (translated Racing Brothers Let's & Go - also a pun on the main characters' names Retsu & Go).

Great story, memorable characters, cool car designs and some very creative races. Probably too kiddy for most people here though  It's also quite old (late 90s) so finding any material online is nigh impossible.

^ Hah, hah, hah! Back in the '90s in high school (in the Philippines), these Tamika-based motorized vehicles were the thing!!

CORRECTION -> Its "Tamiya." lol :boggled:

It's Tamiya ;)

They are still coming out with new models now, even though they aren't as popular. The latest cars have their motor in the middle and dual gearboxes for better weight distribution:

Even though Wangan Midnight is all about street racing, the anime version of that is just beautiful and will keep you entertained despite having only 26 episodes.

Eh, to be honest, I gave up after about 12 episodes and skipped to the end. I thought it was bland. The racing was great, but everything else was bleh at best.

Not to mention the end was dreadful.

I find the supernatural elements in Wangan too distracting. The whole cursed car thing just makes the show depressing. Also since they are racing on highways, it becomes a contest of who can tune the cars the most. Bit boring. It's crazy how the games are opposite though. In arcades everyone always flocks to Maximum Tune machines and leaves the Initial D machines deserted

I've read Countach and Kanojo No Carrera (up to the latest subbed chapters anyway), and I'm currently reading Over Rev. I daresay the stories are actually a lot better than Initial D. There are a lot of realistic aspects of car ownership that are just glossed over in ID. For example, Kanojo gives a running tally of car related costs spent at the end of each chapter. Also sometimes they have a page dedicated to famous supercars' specs. ID used to give spec sheets for the races in 1st Stage, but gives up around 2nd-3rd Stage. As for the artwork, I'd say ID is still the best at conveying a sense of speed. Countach has amazing stationary drawings though. Kanojo is pretty meh. Over Rev is ok.

I'm saving Capeta for last since it's already complete (and I suspect will have the best story) :D

Initial D had a dreadful 'story', so it's not hard to beat it. Over Rev! has an excellent blend between racing/cars and character development. Really deserves an anime adaptation.

-> I just found this, I just hope an anime adaptation is still open season...they just did WM, right!?

^ Sorry if its raw. :indiff:

1st and 2nd Stage was quite ok, but then once Project D starts they give up on the story side of things altogether. The new racers all just felt cookie cutter without any character development.

IMHO, ID should've ended at Fourth Stage with the Purple Shadow race, and it could easily last as many episodes but with much better overall story if they take the time to explore some character's backstories:
- Bunta & Takumi's mom
- Bunta & Yuuichi (gas station manager) younger days
- Takumi's first ever driving lesson (I doubt Bunta would just start him off alone at 12 years old)
- How Keisuke converted from being a biker gang into a racer
- Nakazato & Shingo's past rivalries
- Sileighty duo's backstories
- Kyoichi & Ryosuke's past races
- Bunta & MR2 driver's dad past races
- Purple Shadow duo's past races
- An OVA epilogue showing a race each in Takumi & Keisuke's pro career
- End with an older Takumi & Keisuke accidentally meeting on a drive, where both are teaching their sons (or daughters!) to drive for the first time
- Final screen "A new legend begins..." *cue Rage Your Dream*
- Bunta revealed to be The Stig (lol j/k)

Instead we get teleporting cars and an overdramatic supernatural love story in the complete mediocrity that is 5th and Final Stage :yuck:

In any case, I'm glad the Legend 3 movie is out now so the series can finally rest for good.

They did WM quite a while back. ID also had a live action adaptation. Most of the hardcore fans hate it, but I can understand why they have to make the changes in the movie. Still a better movie than Tokyo Drift in my opinion.

Initial D revolves too much around racing for the plot to actually have any merit. The reason Over Rev! does it so well is because races don't come thick and fast - they're not on a schedule like Initial D's.

Initial D is one that comes to mind, although its really more of a drifting anime than it is a true motorsport anime. Its a good one though.

My opinion about Initial D is:

When I first watched the First Stage (it was over 5 years ago and I wasn't an anime addict back then), my reaction was "OH G-D THIS IS AWESOME! 10 OF FREAKING 10!". And I have noticed that Initial D is often liked by car fans who don't watch anime, and not so liked by people who do watch anime. Yes, it's a very special kind of anime, and it focuses on cars and driving techinques (also, that brain-bursting music called eurobeat) rather than characters, their stories, detail, psychology and that "character development" thing people like. It's not Evangelion with cars. So I don't advise it everywhere, although it's still one of my favourites.

Today, after having completed 65 anime titles in total by now (here's MyAnimeList profile), I've probably become more... critical to IniD. Which is probably why I wasn't so hyped about the recent Legend movies. But still, I enjoy rewatching the old TV series. Especially the Fourth Stage, which is my favourite ever. The Fifth Stage, however, is more anime-like anime with less detail of the car action but more about rivalry, concentration, drama and that "wings" thing (which is also in the Final Stage).

At least the supernatural part in WM was handled good. I can't say the same for the wings in ID. I hated it so much lol. I could go with them getting auras but wings ? Really ?

The fifth stage was a disappointment after the amazing 4th stage. The rivals have better be background stories, they physics of the cars looked hell lot better. The 5th stage had physics where the cars drifts like they are in criterion NFS games. Also the way they handle the Fujiwara Zone was disappointing imo. It's like a generic main character anime power effect. At least they fixed them up a bit in the final stage.

1st Stage is still king though. With 3rd and 4th Stage closely behind.

They did WM quite a while back. ID also had a live action adaptation. Most of the hardcore fans hate it, but I can understand why they have to make the changes in the movie. Still a better movie than Tokyo Drift in my opinion.

WM live action sucked imo. The Z in the junkyard wasn't even the right one. The Devil Z doesn't look like a powerful car. The tire offset and the tire width are all wrong. It just looked like a restored stock classic Z next to the Blackbird. Now compare that Devil Z to the 90's live action version. The 90's version looked a lot more like the Devil Z (it had around 620hp just like the original version) :

The crash scenes were bad too lol. I just can't take it serious when Akio was depressed looking at the burning Z that was actually an old mitsubishi.

I think the manga of ID is much better than the anime. I didnt dislike the wings that much as sometimes you can hear people say this guy is flying etc.. so yeah kinda makes sens. And since japan is a bit more spiritual than us it didnt bother me that much, however the win in reverse in last race was kinda bad. Really hate it. It's kinda normal that Fujiwara is treated as the supernatural one since his skill were never really related to anything real but if you look at the FD it really makes sens and the upgrade he does too.

Theres 2 new racing manga, one called G, two chapter translated so far. It's a story about a boy who wants to be a driver and it seems to be on the super formula -> f1 path. Link : http://mangafox.me/manga/g_yamada_hitotsuki/

The other one is based on karting I guess, even if it looks more like mario Kart from what I could see (I didnt read it yet). It's called Vongola GP Kuru!, here's a link : http://www.mangareader.net/vongola-gp-kuru/1

I have found this mobile game, over a year ago, that is car-related and has moe anthropomorphic characteristics of each car in real life. Each automaker, even Fiat-Chrysler and Tesla, approved of each personalization of their models. It may not be an anime, nor manga, but it's close... Yet, it does have four various issues of 4komas (four panel comics), that relates to the game in the website. They were released, before and after the game started in late-December 2014. I mentioned this game in "The General Anime Trend", and some GTP users liked it. And, I hope you guys like it, too.

[Fun Fact: Most of the seiyuu from "The IDOLM@STER" voiced the majority of each Syanago!]

Title: Syanago Collection
Genre: Racing/Bishoujo (it's like Chutes & Ladders.)

Sadly, the online service of the game has ended, since January 31st. The game was only three years-old, and were only over +220 Syanago (Cargirls) in game.
