I'm currently in the process of gaining S Class for all the circuits and started with AHR in the M3 GTR. Gaining all the classes up to S was OK but actually trying to win or hold 1st position going round the first couple of corners was a nightmare. The suggested driving line braking points were wrong and I always found the AI either closing at least 0.5 second gap or overtaking! It was very easy after that to gain that gap again through the easy left and rights.

I wanted to win a race in S Class so i tried another RWD car and failed (one of the Nissan race cars I think). I eventually tried in an FF Alfa 147 and won twice.

Can anyone explain the best way to take these first couple of corners? The rest of the track is tied down now! Plenty of practice!

I just looked to remind myself what track that was, as soon as I saw it I knew exactly what you were talking about. I always had trouble with that corner. I can keep up with the AI through the first part but always loose time through the second, tighter corner. If I try to keep up with the AI I always get understeer and go way too wide. Instead, I think of that as a sacrificial corner. I brake earlier and loose a little time to the AI, but then I can hit the apex where I want and set myself up the the esses that follow. Maybe someone else has some better advice that could help both of us.

Hi Peter

I think you are right, it does seem to be a worthwhile sacrifice on this corner to carry speed for the S bends. I've watched the AI closely and they carry unreachable speed on the racing line and keep tight to the apex where I end up with huge understeer, the same as you. Maybe there are finer tuning settings someone can suggest? For anyone else reading, I tried most of the time with the GTR and no aids turned on.

GT PSP AI opponents will always catch up with you. Especially during A and S ranks. Its kind of magical boost they give to the 2nd placer.I've experimented before regarding this and I intentionally bump 2 cars to the sand. They lost 2 seconds from me and the current 2nd place. Then after 1 lap, these 2 cars appear right behind me. Its not a matter of driving lines. As I observed in the replay the 2 cars got a BOOST (or their AI drivers got mad and switched Nitrous Gas!!). Le Mans circuit is a nice track to experiment this theory.

I'm currently competing in WTAC and at the legendary Nurburgring , we are gonna race the ZR-1 and GT-R. In preparation to that I raced S-class 10laps at S3-S3 tires using ZR-1 . My opponents were 2 Zondas and 1 ZR-1. Mind you, that ZR-1 absolutely has Aids turned and probably using Racing Slicks!! I proved my theory correct when I watched the replay. I think the AIs got TCS set to 5! Awww!!!
But still managed to win and all 3 cars were closely behind me.

Hi Red Ice, thanks for explaining that. Now that you have said I have experimented and those bloody AI cars can close some ridiculous gaps!

On a side note - I'm going to compete in Week 39 too, bring it on!

YEY!!! that's really nice. Feel free to hop in anytime at WTACs. Good luck to us all. The Ring is one nasty track and will punish us for the slightest of errors.:ouch:

Yep. The 'rubberbanding' effect isn't as bad as some arcade racers, but really shouldn't be in a Gran Turismo game. The only racer on the PSP that doesn't have rubberbanding is the TOCA/Race Driver/V8 Supercars series.

Hi Detroitbb

'Rubberbanding' in a game that is supposed to be 'The ultimate racing simulator' is pretty poor. I'm just relieved it doesn't happen in GT5!

About the Rubberbanding, the problem I have is because of that you can't gain ground when you take risks they are glued to your back and also I noticed (this is most notable on the Ring straight) when I were running the nissan 390 race car at 350kmh vs the AI with the Vertigo race car that has a top speed of 320kmh and still was side by side with me this was so annoying they clearly were cheating right there.

I also dislike the fact the 3 completely different AI cars (different weight, power, layout) will be together like a pack of rabid dogs waiting for you to make the slightest mistake.

Hahaha!! Yeah they drive Cool-headed without errors and they still get that boost ability.

Though I sometimes experience AI glitch , them getting stuck at corners and having trouble getting out. GOOD FOR THEM!! :sly:

But I think the AIs who got stuck calls up the car behind me to push harder.
BADD!!!

Hi MVR08,

The 'rubberbanding' feature does make this game particularly aggrevating at times! I mentioned earlier that for a game that is meant to be a top quality racing game it is a let down. However, I do love the game!

I think, as mentioned in many threada before that the game is missing some huge features. Some features have potential to make this the portable racing game to beat. Maybe PD could release a major update (unlikely due to cost etc) or maybe something for the NGP version of GT. A career mode and Porsches are my top priorities.

GTPlanet has kept me interested in the game and its good to chat with other GT PSP enthusiasts about it too.

All in all it's still the best game on the PSP!

After some more experimenting I have found even if you do hold the perfect line and speed they still overtake at times! It's like racing with three bloody Stigs on the track.

The thing about the rubberbanding is it works the other way too. A noob like me makes a lot of mistakes, and if it weren't for the rubberbanding, we'd have to restart the race every time we go off track, which really would be extremely frustrating, and turn a lot of new players away from the game and others in the series.

I use my own line through the corners, and I've got no problem with opposition overtaking me. It's when I'm doing reverse that I've got problems:grumpy:

I just wish there was a way to turn it off.

Hi !

Sorry for the off-topic but seeing that you guys seem to be running at Apricot Hill Raceway Forward, I was thinking that you might be interested in GTP WTAC Week 41 : Mazdaspeed Power, at Apricot Hill Raceway -forward- !

What about forgeting about AI for a week and having fun with us ;) ?

^ I usually barely run stock cars when I race for the rank.

I first used the
- Opel Astra Touring Car (Opel Team Phoenix) '00

Then the
- Toyota WOODONE TOM'S SUPRA (JGTC) '03

to end up with the
- Toyota WEDSSPORT CELICA (JGTC) '03 !!!

First, it would be great to know which M3 GTR you used : the BMW M3 GTR '03 or the BMW M3 GTR Race Car '01 ? Which type of car you'd rather use : stock/race ?

Second, which tires ? (and I guess you chose pro physics but just to be sure... did you ?)

Third, which corners exactly ? (you've got a track map here, with number/letter)

Forth, IA : unique dealership ?

And fifth, how many laps ? -yep it depends on the laps too : "Last lap blues" keeps occuring a lot., IA cars usually get all of sudden faster &/or you lose control of your car/mess up more corners than usual at the last lap, so if you set 2 laps a race, the IA behaviour would be different than a 3 lap race...

Not that I would be able to give you more advices but someone could and the more details you give in your opening message, the more chances you have to have a more detailed answer !
