Are the penalties too extreme at Le Mans?

Yes. It's why Dragon Trail is where so many of my wins have came from.

Anyway, at least with walls, it is obvious what the limits are.

It's different with walls as cars are not all the same width. Yet if PD puts concrete pillars along the corners on Le Mans would that be better? Tokyo must be the best track, all walls :) I did get 2 wins there again yesterday, mostly because DR.A and up are either too afraid to drive there or dropped below 90 SR...

In terms of knowing where track limits are, walls are better. It's why I am happy with the orange FIA Barriers that are being implemented.

However in terms of racing, concrete pillars obviously are not better. But there needs to be something which either makes the track limits obvious, or improvements to the consistency of the penalties across not only each track but also the entire game.

There is an easy way to solve this guys. PD needs to put landmines outside of the track limits.

As for a new assist, a transparent wall to indicate the track limits (adjusted to the width of your car) would be a big help. Blue see through wall that turns red as soon as you hit it. You might not always get a penalty for 'activating' the wall depending on your speed, yet at least it would be clear how far you can push it on each track.

That would be nice for practice, but may be a distraction in a race

Of course for practice and qualifying. People shouldn't race with the racing line and cones on either during the race. That's the time to be flexible and not to stick to rigid line and braking points.

Definitely. I'd rather not enter a Gr. 1 daily race at Le Mans because of this.

yup, a lot of drivers are just going to avoid it as it's just not enjoyable. hopefully the penalties will be reduced to a sensible level at the next update, but if not I won't be racing it

Perhaps more people would race Tokyo as well without the walls? just learn the track, stay within the white lines before you start pushing it! There's plenty road surface to make the corners. It's mighty enjoyable to nail the corners without any penalties. Take pride in not having a red dot at the end!

Probably, if you make a mistake on a non-walled track, you still may save it on the kerb, grass etc, while hitting a wall is more brutal, which may be frustrating for some (me included , although would love Monaco)

I miss Monaco!! I would love to race there again, was great fun in GT5 yet not very popular online. Spa and Monaco are at the top of my wish list.

Just imagine you're playing wipeout, that game really teaches you to race clean. (Never liked it with weapons though, pure race mode is much better)

I always try to race fair, my best track is brands... now that's a track where pushing the limits really punishes you if you get it wrong. right now I simply don't have the time to learn le mans. This is a matter of opinion... stop trying to prove your opinion is right

I actually like the penalties because they're burned off very easily. So you can push a limit but if you push too far, you'll need to back off for a while before you can push again.

It effectively acts as a warning system.

Do we play the same game? They used to be burned off easily, but not the last few months. (Although it did seem easier at La Sarthe than other tracks, but certainly not 'very easily')
"Seem easier at La Sarthe"? It's ridiculously easier at La Sarthe. I'm at BS and I can burn off a 5 second penalty without even trying.

I think they are a little extreme but it's a good compensation for the lack of accurate representation of the real racing experience meaning that it's better than seeing everyone going through corners like crazy, it takes away the realism!

Ah, B/S, that explains it.

In A/S a little lift before the Porsche curves has the timer counting down fast as well. Plus with drafting I continually see people brake a little then catch back up to get rid of penalties a little bit at the time. It's way too easy now to get rid of penalties. I burned a 5 sec penalty at the finish with less than 1.4 sec lost to next place. At Brand's hatch you lose 5 sec in the pit lane while taking it at normal speed.

I'm not sure what PD is doing. Increasing the penalties and making it easier to burn them is turning races into glitch fests with cars ghosting and unghosting all the time.

I really wish they would add a parameter to the code so cars cannot unghost in front of others. It causes chaos.

Always 2 wheels on the track !! So 100% clear penalty. Should be on EVERY track. We were complaining about unclean track limits for months. Finally a simple rule which is implemented as it should be and still people are discussing and complaining. Has never been easier as this: always 2 wheels on the track. Always.

Now please PD just continue this strategy on all tracks and we can finally close these useless discussions.
Please don't troll, thank you.

I am D/S and it is very easy to burn off penalties since latest patch. No need to stop any more.

CJ
For me at B/S, it hasn’t changed. You need to really slow down to burn your penalties. Unless you’re on La Sarthe.

I just did couple Race C on Bathurst and it was as unforgiving as ever.

How come the top 10 stars at Daily Gr.3 can get away with using the kerb so much at Le Mans? If I use the same racing line i would get probably 30+ seconds in total penalty. It's getting frustrating. Seems the limits don't apply to everyone :banghead:

2 questions, guys :
Are track limits the same across all DR categories :sly: ... and are they the same in qualifying and race ?
I've just done the qualifying ( without too much experience there ) and honestly, I think track limits aren't overly harsh ;) !

*Triggered*

These penalties are ludicrous and completely erroneous!

I've been running laps at Le Mans all day in private test sessions as I've been getting ready for the IRS 2.4 hrs or Le Mans on the 15th. Even though sport mode is running than different BoP and does not allow tuning, I thought I should run a few sport mode races to some race experience instead of running alone.

After one qualifying lap, I received this penalty and instantly quit.

I don't believe this is cutting the track nor should I be penalized with such a large penalty...

BUT then people are doing THIS and its perfectly okay! That makes no sense...
