Are there Diesel cars in gt5? I wonder if you have a car wich says D (diesel) or TDI (TurboDiesel) or something on it?

Jay Leno Tank Car is a diesel.

No we looked into this a while ago and, though the original tank had a diesel engine in some models, the Blastolene Special very definitely uses a gasoline engine - the AV-1790-5B.

No it isn't. It revs low because it's a 29.3-litre V12 engine from a tank, hence the name. Why should the engine rev to 6000-8000rpm if it has 1600+ lb.ft of torque?

BMW 120d
Peugeot 908 HDi
Audi R10 TDi

These are the only diesels in the game. Shame, really.

I don't think PD modeled the dynamics of a diesel properly. I don't really notice a huge push of torque down low and then the eventual flatness of the power.

If you can make 1600 pounds of torque at 8000rpm then you have 2500hp.:mischievous:

It's mainly about the horsepower that you have, instead of the torque.

I thought it was, as the Patton was diesel. Well you learn something new every day.

I think PD should let you choose which type of fuel you put into your car. Would be very funny putting petrol into a diesel :P .

Bah, baloney. HP is nothing more than a mathematical calculation. Torque is real world and can be felt every time you press the accelerator pedal. Torque is what get's everything moving. It's MAINLY about the TORQUE.

Torque is potential. Power is action - power is the rate of conversion of torque. This is why torque is measured in lbft (or kgm) while power is measured in the derived units of hp (or PS) - lbft/s (or kgm/s).

And of course torque is joss all if you shovel through the wrong gearbox (which multiples it).

"Horsepower is more important for race cars since on a track the driver continues to move constantly and use the gears to keep the engine running at its highest power point ideally. High torque at lower rpm is much more fun though, since that is what gives you that sense of power when pulling away from a stop or when accelerating to pass." ~Yahoo answers

So it depends on where you're using the car. But, most of the time in GT5, yeah, more HP is better than torque.

I wish the Tank Car in-game was like Jay's IRL; he put twin-turbos in it and fuel injection after he bought it from Randy Grubb.

So, technically, it's not the "Jay Leno Tank Car '03", it's the "Blastolene Special '01" because it was built in '01 (Jay bought it in '03) and the one in-game has the same stats as it did when Randy built it (the aforementioned turbos and fuel injection system bumped the output to 1,600 HP and 3,000 ft-lbs of torque.)

There's also a diesel Honda Jazz

Sorry, that's not a diesel.
None of them are diesel but I think I know the one you're talking about:

The Honda Jazz/Fit 1.4 i-DSI isn't a diesel. The 'D' stands for Dual. It stands for "intelligent Dual Sequential Ignition". And yes it's a gasoline powered engine.

The 120d is noticeable, try shifting early vs shifting late.

I agree, you notice, but not as much as you should. Aswell as the sound, it has a slight tone of the real world car but could be more detailed imho. Hopefully PD brings more of those every day Diesel-Powered cars in GT6, would be great.

No, many of the vehicles can be counted to be mounted with a diesel engine without the naming of D or TDI for the namesake of the petrol engine(particularly those modeled unspecifically for a cetain function).

who cares what the tank car is. it sucks. just give me another skyline.miata.lancer please.

and torque is the measured #. horsepower is a calculated #. they are the same # at 5252 rpm.
