Are you happy about it?

Yes, the GT4 system makes a lot more sense than how it was done in GT5. I thought they said there won't be B-spec at release though?

The real plus for me is I can actually finish the 24hr endurance races IN 24hrs, not staggered out over a week. ;) I can run 1 or 3 hours then hand over to B spec Bob ( or Becky:sly:).

Does the new B-spec allow you to 3x speed and view the track map and stuff like in 4? That was handy on the long races.

Did I say you had to drive for 24 hours straight and forgo sleep, food and other needs? Nope. So...yeah, what was your point? I'm just saying that you might as well watch some actual racing instead of "playing" B-Spec, essentially watching a game play itself, and I say playing with quotation marks because playing actually implies player interaction something B-Spec has almost none.
His point was that 24hr races are not ran by a single person, or even two. If anything, B-SPEC Bob running the race along with you is more authentic than you doing the whole thing yourself.

Hmmm. I am glad I decided to read thru these post. I had no idea the PS3 overheated like that. I don't really play my ps3 much for long periods of time. I ditched playing GT5 after 3 weeks so I never did any of the longer endurance races. I had no problems letting my ps2 stay on for more than 24hrs so unfortunately we have issues with the ps3. I wonder if PD has taken in account the overheating issue. Save points thru out the races would solve this instead of just mid way. I prefer to race every lap myself anyways. It can be convenient to let b-spec drive if they were more intelligent about it.

Yes for sure! Hated the way it was in GT5, wasted lots of hours doing endurance races repeatedly just to level up those pathetic AI drivers. I'm so glad that PD finally does us a favour by this implementation! :D

Much like in GT4, the races over 4 hours where only time I needed B-spec, probably won't use it all for the shorter races.

Same, I might not use it this go around. It was a great help in GT4. I just feel, with the better everything, the enduros will be more of a joy.

I am not bothered that it is an optional all-in-one now assuming that there are a hell of a lot more events than we had in GT5.

better than this

In all likelihood there will be no acceleration of game-speed possible, as the PS3 is barely capable of finishing all necessary tasks in real-time. That's why there is nothing of that kind in GT5 (neither in b-spec nor in replays).

I was going to ask but you mention in GT4 you were able to switch from your b-spec driver and take over. I only remember being able to switch to b-spec, not the other way around.

Well you definitely could in one of the Gran Turismos, pretty sure it was 4. Also I *think* you could save mid race by exiting during a pit stop, coming right out of the race and saving, though I could be wrong. You could definitely do this partway through a championship though, but would have to pick up from where you left off the next time.

It was definitely 4. Just didn't realize you could take over from you b-spec driver. I remember trying and not being able to. Maybe I missed something. Not sure about the pit save/exit, but yes, for sure between championship races. There was a pop up warning too saying you will abandon the championship if you were to proceed to another part of the menu. I found though that I could get an oil change and then resume the championship. :sly: A great edge to have in those long championship races.
