Anyway, do you think Kunos will target the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X for AC2? The game already struggles without rain on the base models, so It'd make sense to start working on a more powerful hardware.
You cannot focus on PS4 Pro and XboxOneX as standalone models. The platform holders have said that and you would be significantly reducing potential customers that way. Besides, I could see Assetto Corsa 2 being a PS5 title.

unless its out next year, I recon the PS5 will be out by the time AC2 is.

Didn't know that, but I guess It makes sense since they're just 'upgrades' over the base hardware.
About the PS5, I've read a few comments by tech analysts who said it might launch in 2020 (earliest) or 2021 (more likely). All in all, I think AC2 is two/three years away and the timing could be tricky, almost impossible if we consider that a small studios like Kunos will never get preview access to the new hardware, like Turn 10 or PD.

I find PS4 Pro optimization for the next Kunos game more likely than a PS5 version. I've also heard the 2018 Playstation rumors, but then I'd say the short PS4 Pro lifespan in the spotlight would have been uncalled for. Maybe the next Sony console will have been formally announced by the time the AC successor becomes available, but even that I find unlikely. I don't know of course.

Console manufacturers ship dev kits to developers well ahead of the console release. They will know what to aim at and since it will be PC architecture and Development engines tend to be cross platform there's no reason for them not to produce the game simultaneously across platforms.

In any case 2020 for AC2 at the earliest in my view and I might be being optimistic.

It would be nice in the coming months if a target launch window on the PS5 would come to light.

If we're looking at 2021, AC2 would be certainly optimized for the Pro I would think as 3 more years seems a bit long.

The interesting bit will be what console Project Cars 3 is aiming for with SMS having more time fresh out of 2s release. I would assume PS5.

Either way, I'm not splurging for a pro, just really hope my standard PS4 hangs in there until 5s are on the shelf.

I voted for the current game. Only because I just bought the game a few days ago.

That's my dilemma with the PS4. I'm getting GTS and since I can have AC & PC on the same console, do I buy the Pro or just get the less expensive PS4, anticipating the PS5 in 2 years?

If you don't have a PS4 yet I would definitely spend the extra coin on the Pro.
My son has the pro, I have the vanilla and games look noticeably better with less screen tear or jaggies on his.
I'm sticking with what I have, but saving for a nice 4K screen.

I'm inclined to expect AC2 sooner than that if we assume a few things. First, that Kunos and their parent want to get cash flowing sooner than later. Second, that they will mostly re-use existing assets like track and car data. Third, their core team will be free to work on the game itself while additional content creation and other work is taken on by the expanded team. Fourth is that they'll shoot for at least a current gen release.

As you mention, there shouldn't be any big technical issues with multi-platform release. So if it makes sense from a timing/effort perspective, release a scaled version of the game for current gen consoles, rake in some cash, and then make AC2+ a release title for the next gen, hopefully coming pretty close to what was available on PC since several months before the initial console release

Anyhow, this is the strategy I imagine the Digital Bros bean counters proposed while shamelessly sporting this face: :D

I think it heavily depends on the time required to write a new graphics engine. Stefano said that starting from scratch with a third-party engine (such as UE4, Cryengine etc.) requires 2-3 years, so how much does it take to release a brand new game if you're going to build your own GFX engine? Honestly I have no idea about it, since my game/engine development knowledge is pretty much zero.

I really only have 2 words I'd like involved with AC2.

Trento Bondone

For us console guys/gals. Please.

I'm starting to wonder what AC2 would look like? I don't have a problem with how the car models in AC looked, and I am sure that Kunos will hold the line there. It's also safe to say that the tracks will get a decent make-over with better foliage and details. But the biggest improvements will come from a revamped lighting engine and, if or how Kunos implements the 35mm camera filter look. While I enjoy Assetto Corsa's post processing, I think it can be improved.

I also think we are going to see something sooner, rather than later.

I do too. They've become very adept at posting teasers...especially Marco on his Facebook page.

I know it's only been a shade under two weeks since the night/fireworks picture, but has he dropped any other crumbs?

I don't have facebook and refuse to sign up it won't let me look at his page without signing up.

Nothing. You can be sure that whatever information is posted on Facebook or the official website...wherever - it will get posted in this forum.

Was thinking of getting AC but do you think I should wait and see if they will come out with AC2 this year?

How does AC look on the PS4 Pro? I know it's not going to look anywhere close to GT Sport but does it look descent on the PS4 Pro?

AC is not enhanced for PS4 Pro but I believe boost mode will result in noticeably higher framerates when racing a large grid of cars. Graphically, I'd say AC on PS4 holds up rather well against GT Sport, and between the two I actually prefer AC graphics because it does look seriously convincing under the right circumstances, thanks to highly detailed interior / dashboard models, track surfaces and sunlight reflections. All very sharp without taking much away from the more subtle but super accurate environments. To be on point though, AC is mostly about feeling immersed by the rewarding driving experience.

Zero chance of AC2 coming out this year. AC graphics are really clean and like @Nielsen I too prefer them over GTS as the cockpits don't go pitch black. Which breaks any immersion in GT for me.

agreed with both posts above ^

In GTS, cockpit shadows are also quited jagged, while they're sharper in assetto.

There is zero chance of it coming out in 2018. You won't regret buying AC if you enjoy cars, in general. One of the biggest surprises for me is how much care goes into the older cars to provide an authentic experience.

Why do many people assume that Bonus Pack 3 is the last DLC if the next game is firmly believed to be far away? I have no idea myself but first half of 2019 doesn't sound unrealistic to me. In that case there better be another car pack or two coming in 2018.

I don’t have a desparate desire for rain, so I’ll be happy with improved lighting effects, 24 hour day/night cycle, and functional headlights. And of course, filling out car classes.

I got to agree with you on the rain. In games where racing in the rain is an option, I tend to avoid it. Unless its a rally title. Then the rain is just another challenge to overcome. In track racers, rain is a nescience, not something I ever look forward to.

I do think that the upcoming free DLC for Consoles (which is already there on PC) should be the last bit of DLC assetto should have.
They need to be focusing and full power on AC2 now.

As much as I like it, and as much as I thought that we don't even need a AC2, I now think that's completely wrong.
We need to move on, gaming is a very dynamic environment/business.
AC2 is needed to get more tracks, more cars and most important dynamic racing: weather and time of the day cycle. Those are a must nowadays, and even Kunos admitted it.

Probably because no hints towards new content were given in the end of the year blog and content needs to be saved for AC2 launch.

I recon we won't see any substantial or focused DLC. But maybe we will see a few trickles such as the ROC track, Aston Martin GTE etc. Just going by tweets etc.
