Last time I started and updated my EVO, I go directly to those "missions" and credits, without being able to actually drive the other cars (like Porsche and Camaro, etc). I just don't bother with that Gran Turismo-type of arcade stuff and simply quit in the menu.

This was the direction I didn't want EVO to take. I have zero interest in that. Is it still that way now?

So you mean that just option to do something other than lonely hot laps or online lobbies means a full arcade. The ones just mentioned are still in the game.

I booted up ACE for about 40 minutes last night.

I struggled to maintain 60fps in both events I tried. Worst of all, the menus are so laggy. It's especially frustrating to see all the menu buttons on the screen locked behind a "Loading..." popup, which I presume is because you have to reconnect to their servers.
Make sure you disable fps limiter and v sync at game settings
run with DLSS or MSAA don''t use together

Switch to offline mode to drive what you want, Settings/Gameplay/

Lord Kunos is back, will be interesting to see impact he can have as I think they really need someone like him to try and make the game more realistic and performant.

This is great news and something I was hoping for. I wonder if it happened because Kunos were perhaps struggling with some things? I remember Ian Bell saying he hired 32 people to do the job Stefano did. I also remember Stefano saying if money was no issue he'd love to work on an open world SIM and 30s F1. Maybe this drew him back.

Tbf he didn't say the game arcade, he said arcadey stuff. Which I don't have an issue with if you can just completey avoid it if you wish.

There is (and always will be) 2 game modes.
Online, with missions, licenses, credits, etc….
Offline, with all cars and track content available to race or practice.
You can switch from one to the other with a toggle in hud tab.
Since, at this point I already have pass the licenses, do not care for hot laps rating, do not care to accumulate credits to unlock content, I now spend all my time in offline mode, driving and racing the available content like in AC, ACC or any other SIM I enjoy.

Its was cleared months ago that ac evo is not just going to be hot lap simulator witch is not a bad thing. Make it better as game is thing that will pull in more people.

The things you want can be done by turning it in offline mode.

Marco confirmed in an interview that Evo won't be a sandbox like AC and ACC (skip to 1:08:53):

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Kunos has said anything to correct Marco's comments. The impression I got regarding Offline Mode was that the patch at launch allowing all content offline was temporary (though once again, correct me if I'm wrong).

If the sandbox mode is made available at launch (and if it works fully offline), then I'll buy the game - those are my only deal-breakers currently.

You are wrong. :)

It is the other way around. Online was not available at launch of EA, hence all we had was Offline.
It has been clearly stated by Kunos, that all content would be available to play with in a "conventional" manner.
The Online/Offline toggle is not a temporary feature.
I think in time, more will be developed within both mode, with Online getting more and more available "activities". But the concept will remain.
Offline like AC is and Online like what can be done in GT or Forza.
Offline is what I am really interested in, but I plan to explore Online, from time to time, as it develop.

We just have to wait and see. A sandbox mode is not something i care much about. But i completly understand why it would be important for some people.

I prefer working my self up with a slower car and progress. Upgrade, customize buy a new car etc. Something thats been completly lacking in any simulator. I think kunos understand this is important to try to reach a much wider audiance.

Single player and progression is something thats went really downhill in many modern racing titles. Witch i think is a shame. When it use to be nailed with most racing titles between 2000-2012. I really missed that. Didint know how much i missed it until i replay gt4 specll and now playing through forza motorsport 3 project plus such amazing single player experinces. Something has gone terrible wrong in this era.

I've searched but haven't been able to find anything from Kunos confirming the sandbox mode, do you have a source/direct quote? All I've seen so far is a credit requirement to buy/"rent" cars.

The Offline Mode in day one was patched to grant all content without an internet connection due to server issues, and the wording strongly implied this would be reverted later:

From what I've seen so far, Kunos haven't said anything about reverting the online requirement (yet).

I'm curious to see if/how Rennsport announcement impacts PS5 plans of EVO. I'm not very familiar with Rennsport, but it looks like it may be a good competitor, therefore who comes first may get a bigger cake slice

The two have little in common, and Rennsport, unless it manages the most significant reinventing of itself, is unlikely to be an ACE competitor (LMU is a lot closer in that regard).

I have to say, I tend to agree with Nexus.

The very first version of the game, didn't have all cars unlocked (there were only 5, I believe), even in offline mode. Because the servers weren't working, they released a patch that unlocked the remaining content, of the build, for people not to be restricted, while they worked to get the servers up and running.

I do remember them saying that sandbox mode was going to be there, and later contradict that.

I too hope sandbox remains an option. I like being able to choose how I experience the game and, if they can be completely ignored, more options are always better.

EDIT: To confirm what I said above, about the patch, here's AC's X account:

I was luke-warm on this game, but today it may have convinced me that this is shaping up to be something incredible. FM23 had an update yesterday, and my PC is having problems with it, so I decided to see what other titles I can get into. I had ACEVO on the back burner since t it launched into the Early Access program but, I never really gave it much of a chance. When I tried it, I was met with all kinds of performance issues, like having to change my resolution from 5870 x 1080, to anything and then back to 5870 x 1080 just to get an image to show on screen. Then the game didn't like my GPU because, it did its best to give me a slide show, no mattet what settings I changed. So, I sidelined it for a game that mostly worked. Funny how the roles have reversed when it comes to ACEVO and FM23's current state of performance.

So, today I started finishing up licenses, and I did a quick 10 lapper at Laguna in a one make Golf GTI race. First off, setting a single spec race up in Forza takes an act of God. All the cars will be different, no matter how tight you clamp the P.I. or jostle the settings. All the cars will not be exactly the same specs. ACEVO, its just a toggle on the bottom of the race setup screen.

Then I got into the race. I couldn't have been happier with the handling, and the A.I. Granted the A.I. isn't the best ever, but its a heck of a lot better than whats on offer on FM23. I wasn't torpedoed or shoved off the track.
Then the track limits, act like track limits. Its a level of sobriety that I wish was in FM. In FM you can have 2 in the dirt, and as long as a piece of 2 tires are on the outer edge of a rumble strip, it flies. ACEVO you cannot go outside of the white line. Yup... Sobriety!

I don't know if they updated the physics, but the GTI felt amazing. It was responsive, well mannered, tossable and a joy to drive. Its going to be hard going back to FM.

Kunoz is cooking with this game. Its going to be my main racing title once its fleshed out a little more. I'm really looking forward to it.

I do agree that they should just have a "One Make" check box and be done with it. However in the Free Play setup screen, go to the cars tab. Under Car Origin, you have to select the make and model of the car you want to only show up on track. I know, a little weird.
Also, to make it a spec series so to say, you need to narrow the PI min and max to what your car has or whatever window you want the cars to be in. The thing I don't like is some cars have wangs and roll bars and aero kits, some won't, but they all have the same PI. 🙄 They really need to allow a "Stock Only" option so that the cars don't stray al all from the showroom model.

Also, AC Evo is wonderful. <--- that means I'm still on topic. 🙌
