For what it is worth, I have checked the CPU and GPU load with Geforce experience and with MSI after burner and it appears that Performance counter app in AC, at least on my system, is totally off.
Anybody else did the test?

Do you have Turbo Mode on on the Openxr tool? It can mess tests to show false records.

No, I do not, but it does not mean that , maybe, something else is not in my system.
Do your readings in AC App and OpenXR tool match?

Yes, they do match, not excactly same, but close enought.

I,m more interested to know how you can get AC to run smooth with a G2 at 60fps. I tried it once and it was a mess.

After a few hours of comparing 60 to 90 fps. It looks the same to me but my system is running smoother and cooler with higher PP settings, and my CPU can manage 60 much easier than 90.

As I was trying 90 fps instead of 60fps, my issue of big discrepancy between AC performance app and afterburner was gone, it appears to be off only when I run my G2 at 60fps.

Will setting up a dual-boot to Win10 just for sim racing do it?
Has anyone looked into this yet?
I imagine there are quite a few nervous owners. It's not a perfect HMD due to the WMR baggage it carries, but it's pretty damn good for sim racing I really don't want it nerfed for no good reason when it would probably do me for a good few years yet.

Either

b) just lock you present Win 11 version to 23H2.

You can fudge this by editing registery files or go down the route of upgrading your Win 11 instalation from Home to Pro. The Pro edition is designed for businesses and has the built-in feature choice of locking the installed Windows version to whatever you like to avoid automatic version upgrades breaking a business-critical system. This is exactly what is happening to us. Win 11 Pro keys can be bought cheap from one of the sites of dubious reputation for less than 2 quid. The 'dodgy' keys work or they will give you another one. There may be a difference between a fresh install key and an update from Home to Pro key but not 100% sure. Some people say the keys are from stolen credit card numbers but I don't know how true this is, selling for less than 2 quid, it sounds like a lot of work. I believe Steam support ends Nov 2026 and that may be it for the G2, but that's still another 22 months.

The lock to W11 23H2 means you still get all the security updates so no problems there.

I think mine is locked to 23H2 simply by not selecting auto update. I guess that is a pro only option then. Am still hoping for someone to do a workaround driver for the thing but i will not be holding my breath. Until then i will use for as long as i can.
I like the G2 but i will not miss the buggy mixed reality app when it finally gives out on me

Since we are using open composite, why would Steam stopping support in Nov 2026 be an issue for us?
On my side, I am still on Windows 10 and intend to stay that way. My PC is 90% dedicated to Sim which is 90% AC. What would Windows 11 do for me?

That is a good point. Unfortunately i upgraded windows before this was an issue.
However, i do believe that windows will remove mixed reality across all builds at the same time when forced to update in 2026.
Only then will we be toast unless there there is something for us to use.

It's a crazy situation, isn't it? In a world where there's a big push to standardise things like device chargers to avoid obsolescence with new product launches, we have a perfectly good headset that will be rendered useless because of some lines of code that Microsoft will actively remove from their OS. Why not just leave the current code in there for current users? Seems like that would be the easiest thing to do.
I wonder if there are any movements, petitions, requests to MS etc for this to happen? A lot of people are going to have to spend a lot of money to replace perfectly good hardware unnecessarily.
How that is seen as good economics or good for the environment I'll never know.

This is interesting in the answers. Don't know how factually accurate it is:
Microsoft's Mixed Reality Portal software has been discontinued for support and updates.
Therefore it is recommended that you use an older version of Windows to connect this VR device.
For example Windows 10 / Windows 11 with the lower version 23H2.


Linux section.
There are indeed some open source projects supporting this hardware in Github.
You can use the search tool to search for keywords such as
HP Reverb G2 + Linux
Not bad at all.

And of course Steam VR fully supports the HP Reverb G2.
You can run Steam VR in newer versions of Windows.
And of course Steam VR fully supports the HP Reverb G2.

Yes, a load of horse **** if you ask me. They know full well the damage they are causing. HP must of had a heads up otherwise why would they drop it when they did. I bought mine new on ebay just after it was dropped by them. At the time there was no noise of this happening.
It is buggy though, before i changed to open composite i had awful tracking with steam. Now my tracking has improved a lot but there are wierd things that happen including the crashing out of game when you end race (not always) and the window + Y thing (not always). Latest bugs are closing down my pc if i leave headset on when not in in use (not always) and i have had the freeze from hell a few times where the game just locks up for a few seconds with engine reving. Thankfully rare at the moment.
However, my image in my sweet spot is excellent with the folviated thingy plus i am happy with my verticle field of view reduced quite a lot. So yeah, i would like to keep it.

regarding cpu/gpu config to choose, there's this good lookin tool that you can check to see if a cpu/gpu combo is bottlenecked,
eg this would be the combo of Masscot :

and you can see it's a good match , for 1920x1080 gameplay at least ...

but the thing I wonder is : which resolution should we take to see representative figures for VR?

Hi folks , Quest 3 user here . Got AC running great but the last week all of a sudden ive been getting black square artifacts briefly randomly appearing and a few random crashes ? Done all the usual updated drivers , rolled back to older drivers. Has any one else recently ran into this?

sorry for the late reply... Q3 user here too , and not sure it's the same but have noticed of late occasionally black artefacts rapidly appear and dissapear (not sure they were square for me...)
Anyway , I found a workaround by using Pure LCS weather style (instead of Pure Gamma) ...
try and see if that fixes it for you. (also you can try and disable the new KN5 loader option, which is said to bring about a lot of issues).

ps: Peter Boese announced a new version of Pure LCS soon (next week) , with which also the Showroom would work (now too dark when using LCS), so if that was the reason you were sticking to Pure Gamma, it will soon be fixed!
