Not sure if I've posted this here, but does any steering/shift.ksanim experts have a steering and stick sequential shift animation for this lad, who's reviving the old URD DTM mod?








Judging from how many posts I've scrolled through on this topic for 101Creative/F302 cars and the like, I know some of you are out there. ;)

as for explanation : I recalled someone saying that the game makes the mipmaps on the fly when there are none stored in the DDS.


EDIT : I tried switching CSP off , and still no black/white in the distance ... so I don't know why, but not having mipmaps in the skin DDS file is not giving me any issues (even with CSP off).

I esp used no mipmaps in the skins I made for this Sandero variant I'm currently havin a blast with... and the colors remain even far far away...

Have a question (unrelated to the mipmaps thing) : can someone fix the steering animation for this one please?
(the hands don't move in the same pace as the steering wheel, and it is quite the immersion breaker) @Masscot maybe ?

Disregard my statement on the Start/Finish line - there are two Start/Finish towers, and I am accustomed to the second one. The Formula 1 tower is indeed the first one, and it looks like it works properly.

Note the sector times issue in the video above - at around 20 seconds into the lap. The sector jumps from 1 to 3 - without logging a sector time.

The position data around the start-finish line is also still broken - perhaps fixing this sector issue will fix that, it often does (it has on Fenryr tracks that I've worked with in the past). If not, I can screen-record an example of that as well.


Oh, and one more note - I noticed that the pit lane doesn't actually end until after the tunnel. In reality, it ends at the white line, before the downward hill towards the left hander into the tunnel. Not sure if that's intentional, but I think it's best if it ends at the white line on direct pit exit.

Yes, it was me. I had a longer discussion with ClimaxF1 at the Overtake Forum about the best way to save textures as DDS files.


At the end the well known track modder Johnr777 said, that the DDS files with DXT1, DXT3 or DXT5 compression don`t need mipmaps as AC will create the missing mipmaps for these files and only the loading time will be a little bit longer. Only if you use the better BC7 (linear, DXT11+) compression with less distortions and artifacts in the textures, you have to create mipmaps as the game can`t do this for DDS files with BC7 and will crash. Johnr777 is only using BC7 compression for his tracks anymore, as it's the best compromise between file size and quality. But don`t forget, these files must be saved with mipmaps to work.
 
of late I'm getting one (approx. 0.5 second) freeze each session about 5 seconds after launch of each race (and then it's smooth as butter..)

pretty annoying as you can imagine.

Anyone here recognizes this and found a solution or has a suggestion for me to try?
I managed to find a workaround : Switching weather style from Pure LCS back to Pure Gamma fixed it for me!

a good test track for this is Circuit Zolder by reboot team, v1.3
which gave me consistently the 0.5 second freeze every first time I went in the first corner (standing start w 5 opponents, same car, me starting last). (but I have seen that freeze on other tracks as well , so maybe it's even on all tracks , I'm not sure)

So after restarting the race in the same session, it would not do that freeze anymore , you have to exit the session and start a new one to experience the freeze again...

I hope you can use this to find and eliminate the cause of that freeze which is occuring when I'm using LCS (and no longer when switching to Gamma - no other settings changes)

Thanks to your video, but I really don't know how to solve it.
For pitlane's ending, it's intentional, in order to let ai not crash in tunnel.

Could you please check, if its not the first corner, but maybe the first time you see the sun on the screen or the first time sun is in front of you?

And its only 1 short freeze?

Hmm. need to test this. ran a local time attack at work with my rig, and everyone got this freeze at the first corner of (DDM)tsukuba at the first lap. Maybe the same thing. Thanks for the hint!

Yessssssssssssss.
I was too lazy to make tests with LCS...overall performance seems better, Gamma seems to have some kind of bottleneck that results in more freezes on intensive car/track combos.

My example is the freebie version of Maneking's SUGO with the dreaded treefx add-on, 24 gt3 cars (mixed RSS/Kunos/URD grid), I was getting many freezes in cockpit view with Gamma, all gone with LCS.
F3 cams/replays are still intensive and jittery at times, that track has so many gpu spikes (don't even know why I'm keeping it).

Not enough tests, but now everything seems smoother "just because".

I'll just gently point out that although you've quoted @jac0 and said "Yesssssssssss", your solution is EXACTLY the opposite of his. He went LCS > Gamma, and you went Gamma > LCS.

Related: Yes @Peter Boese, I have it too, single 1 sec-odd pause, on multiple tracks exiting the pit-lane, and now that you ask, I seem to remember getting it as I face the sun for the first time. CSP latest, Pure latest, LCS, pure pp.

around noon it's in the beginning of the first corner , around 9am it's just after the first corner...

Yes it is 1 short freeze (of approx 0.5 seconds , even when restarting the race within the same session, the freeze does no longer occur)

If there is any other test I can do to help pinpoint, please ask.

Hi Peter, first of all thanks for all your mods!

I wanted to ask you, if you ever thought about focusing on creating mods of cars belonging to the same championship. It would be great to be able to race with a grid of cars all created by you.

Donna Mae Mimms and Pinky Rollo need a female driver with an open face helmut (like driver_70_bathurst_open_face, but female). Or is there an easy way to slap a female face on another driver with CSP? Cuz I need 2 females actually. (No real slapping involved, btw ;) )

EDIT: Easily done. Heeere's Donna Mae... (Just throw the file below into the skin folder to get female face. Remove the ".txt" from the filename...) This works with the bathurst open face.

This track is available for us, but informally not really playable as is, due to very poor optimization.
Removing the tree related models in the "models_magarigawa_club.ini" helps, but then the track does not look like what can be seen in the picture anymore.
Here is to hope someone here will make it better.

My version of the ts_hungaroringACCv03 track made to look the way I prefer. There are two versions you can try so please don't skip reading the rest of this post. Both are standalone versions so they won't mess with the original tracks and can easily be deleted if you don't care for my changes.

rj_hungaroringACC: My version of the ts_hungaroringACCv03 track with too many changes to describe. I would suggest starting with this track to make sure you like the changes. If you do then I would delete this and download the track below.

rj_hungaroring: A standalone version of Fenryr's fn_hungaroring v1.3 track made to look like the above rj_hungaroringACC track. Fenryr's version is far superior to what I did with the separate GT and F1 layouts, the compatibility with Pyyer's F1 extensions and other numerous improvements he made. I would highly suggest you use this version instead of mine, but that's your choice.

Now for the confusing part and I hope language barriers don't make this hard to understand. The changes I made to the rj_hungaroring track kind of messed up Pyyer's F1 extensions. If you want to use the F1 extensions from Pyyer, I included the changed files needed in order for them too work properly. First you will want to install Pyyer's extensions into the rj_hungaroring track folder. Then extract all the files in the 'Files_for_Pyyer_F1_mods' folder from the download package and overwrite when it asks.

Track skins:

There are a bunch of track skins you can use or delete if you don't need them. The Grass Greenish and Grass Lush skins are self explanatory. The Seasonal Trees skin will change the tree textures to give a more seasonal accurate look. I.E., bare in the winter, semi leafless in the late fall, etc. The AC_Crew skins will change the pitlane crew objects to have series specific sponsors.

Notes:

-- As always, any shader value I changed from it's original value gets placed in the Shader Stuff section of the ext_config file. You can edit them to get a look you prefer.

Both tracks have been updated with a completely unnecessary change. It's something that always bugged me or should I say always bugged my OCD. Use the links in the quote to update either version of the track you may have. I think it's safe to just extract and overwrite your existing track, but the best way would be to delete your existing track folder first.

-- Put tyre wall tops on a handful of the retaining walls that didn't have them. I'm no modeler so they don't look as good as the existing ones, but at least they are no longer empty looking behind the wall.

Thanks for the suggestion, although I already know (more or less) where I need to fiddle with to fix it... With my comment I was subtly trying (another time) to draw attention to the issue which, as FrustratedUse says, is something that happens way too often with these mods, which is a shame.

I have the option "Replace Yebis with lightweight.. " turned off.

Will try your patch later tonight but I see that the path in your zip file is different from the path I have in my AC directory structure... ppfilters instead of ppfilter :

so I gather I need to replace the existing one, and not have a separate "ppfilter" sub-folder, right?

If that's the case, then perhaps reaching out to track modders here or elsewhere might be best. This is a fairly common issue, particularly on converted tracks - and it has been fixed before.

Anyone who knows about sector times and position data on track creation, feel free to chime in.




Shame about the pit lane, but I understand I suppose.

Report back:
1. I'm not a VR guy, 43-inch, 4k, HDR TV (pancake :lol:) @ 60Hz for me.
2. I did indeed have the alternative PP mode checked.
3. I added the patch provided, and tested first with alternative PP mode on. Same pause. Only the first time starting AC from CM.
4. So I turned off the alternative PP mode and bingo. Pause gone. I exited and restarted AC and, clean. No pause.

Side-effects:
The visual look in-game had changed from before. I tried resetting reset Pure to defaults (I barely change anything from defaults so no great loss) without change. I read Ilya's explainer about auto-exposure, so I guess I'll be trying some other PP filters? Also I took a look at the HDR consequence of turning Yebis on, and so I might try some experimenting there.
