Assualt Weapons Ban

You can't go to a gun store and buy a AK47, or and Uzi. These guns are still covered by the 1989 gun ban.

There is still 922(r) that pretty much stops anyone from converting any firearm into an "Assualt Weapon", again, whatever the hell that means. So, don't expect to see a lot of AW hitting the streets just yet. One great thing about the AWB hitting the skids is the ability to purchase higher capacity clips again. No longer are we forced to only 10 round clips.

"Guns, guns, GUNS!!"

-Clarence Boddicker, Robocop
(The scene where Clarence and his goons go to see that Italian guy in the cocaine facotry and they all insult each other and pull out like 5 or 6 guns and point them at each other)

This thread just reminded me of that scene!

The was an article in the paper (Daily telegraph :D) about the AWB. And their examples for an assault weapon was Uzi's and AK-47's. Would anyone in the USA think of getting an AK-47? As it pretty much symbolises terrorism in the middle-east.

I know people who bought a few cheap Semi-Auto AK-47s and 5000 rounds of ammo put them in a water tight case and buried them in their backyard before Y2K. AK-47 is the most used small arm gun in the world.

Liar!!! Unless you have a Class 3 if you live in the USA, and lots of money!

Event Horizon
Now that the ban s expired, i went out and bought an M4 with M203 Grenade launcher, M248, M16, and a 24 Pack of grenades. I'm gonna go kill me some squirrels! :dopey:

I also bought a 6 pack of Mac-10s for those pesky rats and c.o.c.kroaches around the house.

You can now buy an AK. But it will be Semi-Auto.

You can also now buy an Uzi, or the dreaded Tec-9. However, these weapons are not as scary as you might think. The length law still exists. So these weapons will have a foot long barrel sticking out the front, not only making them horrible for concealment, but making them look stupid, too!

I think you forgot to read something.

My brother in law had an uzi like that once he said it was sold as a rifle but all you had to do was take off the (eaisly removable) barrel and pull out 1 bolt and you had a fully auto uzi. He never took it out of the box and got rid of it years ago. :(

Solid Lifters..You can buy an AK.47 semi auto or an Uzi semi auto in most gun shops in the US. The military full auto or burst models are affected by alot of laws begining with the '34 laws and ending with the '89 laws along with a ton of local and state laws. When a manufactuer wants to sell weapons to the civilian market in the US they build and market semi auto versions of their " assault " weapons that meet federal standards . They purposely do not change the "name" of the weapon only the model designation.

You guys probably know the law better than me, but there are state restrictions in place as well as federal restrictions. Solid comes from CA and they have the toughest gun control in US (I think), he is correct in saying at least in CA, you cannot buy an AK47, even a semi auto.

I'm also referring to the Federal Laws that still ban the AK47 and Uzi pistol. However, there are still different models of these availble to the public now that the ban is over. The rifles now available are the USAK97 and the MAK90 and NHM91 model AK47 style rifles, and I'm not to sure about the Uzi, but there is a rifle version that I think can now be sold here in the US.

this is really more of a BUMP, for my beloved thread :D

but to prove the Assualt Weapons ban did absolutely nothing i will be posting a picture of the rifle my buddy bought a few months ago, while the ban was still in place, and you tell me if it looks like an offensive or defensive weapon, and then tell me if that weapon should have been banned under the assualt weapons ban. i'll try to get the pick up today if possible, because i'm being mobilized for our fourth hurricane and will be gone for about a week most likely. i'm sure others could find pictures of highly aggressive looking weapons that were sold all during the "Ban".

I'm not sure of the point of the ban (to me, a gun is a gun is a gun...they are used to putting a hole in something, usually fleshy), but it's a silly piece of legislation for one reason.

The law bans 19 semiautomatic weapons and limits the size of clips to 10 rounds. But critics who say it should not be revived say it has loopholes that have limited its impact.

Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice president, says the law bans only "cosmetic accessories" on semiautomatic weapons while allowing similar weapons with just as much firepower to stay on the market. "All we are talking about if the ban expires is that once again manufacturers will be able to put more than two cosmetic features on a gun."

Gun makers made small changes in certain weapons that allowed "knockoffs" of the banned weapons to be sold legally. The Bushmaster rifle used in the sniping attacks that killed 10 people in the Washington area in 2002 was a legal weapon, very similar to the banned AR-15 rifle.

If a criminal wants to modify a weapon (that's still illegal, I'm told), he's going to go ahead and do so. A criminal isn't likely to think twice about the legality of his weapon if he's really in the mood to kill people. In any case, I have no propblem with people owning non-automatic, non-modified weapons like a rifle or shotgun, as long as they are used properly and responsibly, and used by an adult.

I just choose not to own one, just as someone can choose not to own a pit bull terrier, to not have an abortion, or not own a JDM-spec Skyline R34 (oh wait, that's illegal in the US).
