UPDATE: If you have a GameShark, you can now race the Auto Union against the AI in any event that it meets the entry qualifications.

The code is:

760133C0 00000000
280CBDE5 6FA17A65
28597274 0C15A42F
285E3F88 6F157A65

Unfortunately, this will not unlock any of the other "special cars", but I am still working on a way to unlock them as well.

This is very interesting topic!

I have AUS, just sitting in my garage, and everytime when i come across it, i was tempting to take it for a spin. Tho i always wondering how it turn due to cover panel front and back wheel.

Oh well, i will give it a try when i get home from school and detention... :grumpy:

I took it out for a ride a month ago. It did handle horribly, but quite well from a car that was made just to go in a straight line.

Hey guys+girls,
When i was in a lecture the other day i was talking to one of my older classmates about Bernd Rosemyer and the Auto Union, when to my disbelief he announced that he had a video documentary from '92 named "Auto Union Action" that is all about the silver stars, the racers, and the races. He lent the VHS (yeah thats right i even still have a VCR thank god!) to me and i must say that seeing footage of drivers such as Nuvollari, Rosemeyer and stuck driving around Nuburing was possibly one of the most amazing moments i have spent in front of a TV.
I thought that i might record some interesting parts for you guys when i have a little more time and put it up here for you. :)

Has anyone else watched it?

A UK company called Terrific Stuff Ltd has produced a 2dvd set called "Racing The Silver Arrows", all about the battle between Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz between 1934 and 1939.

105 minutes of amazing action. Quite expensive, but it really is terrific stuff.

I believe it is also still available on video. They have a website: www.terrificstuff.co.uk.

well i happen to love this car and even though i dont own a version where you can race it other than tests, i do have a lot of fun on the ring with a car that actually belongs there, its amazing to think that a car that old went that fast and can actually stay on the track, on this note ( i know this isnt a wish list but...) i would like to see more cars of this type, blitzen benz and what not in the next installment of gt

Has anyone else "drifted" this car? On one hairpin, I got the rear end out and slid around the kink before it. Couldn't bring iround the hairpin though.

No, this was not intentional and I crashed into the wall. Just asking if anyone has drifted this beast.

Anyway, the Auto union is a great, hard, but great drive around the Ring.

actually the only way i ccan get around some of the tighter corners on the ring is to power slide around since the car has no turning radius, with high downforce its actually realatively easy to bring it back in :dopey:

Since this is a topic all about this car, i have a question. Is it true that the bought version can only be driven on Test Course and the Nür, whilst the won version can be driven on any track if it meets the racing requirements?

Reading through this thread, you can see that nobody has managed to race either the bought or won version anywhere, except for Digital-Nitrate who provided some very good pictures to prove it.

Outside that particular mystery, no, it's not true.

The AU is actually pretty cool. On my second lap, I was set for about a 7'05"ish time until I spun and spent half a minute getting it to face the right direction.:ouch: The car is very easy to drive easy. I find it can make every turn on the Nürburgring. The car's attitude is what you put into it. Treat it nicely and it will be easy. Go all out, and you will have issues, especially with the bumps. On smooth track, it is a very fun drive.

I havn't played with downforce yet, so I'll see how that would affect the rear end. (most of my issues were with the rear coming unglued over rough stuff.) On the straight section before the carousel, I could do anything with it because of the downforce. At speed, the tires do have a lot of grip.

Why criticize the car so much? Spend a few laps with it and learn it. You'll see. It is a great car. Two laps was enough for me to start respecting this beast.

I don't really like the streamline because its to loose
I almost went for 7'ish and on the straight i hit a bump and went flying into the wall and the downforce was on full.
It's best for the Oval only not Nurburgring. I was pushing hard to get a good time

Got a 6'55" on my third lap out with it.

I guess this is a car where the driver aids are essential. I tried it on GV with no aids and was all over the place. Especially after three laps when the tires were red.

I know this is a massive gravedig, but...

I was curious to see if I could get around the Nurburgring cleanly in this car with N1 tires (and no turbo or oil change). I did, but only by treading very carefully on my way to a 7'50.444. It obviously takes effort, because even a small slide on corner exit can't be corrected as a result of the limited steering angles available. So I'm curious if other people have tried this; my lap was painfully cautious, and I'm sure it's theoretically possible to go at least ten seconds faster with some practice.

N1s? Insane! This car is a handful even on S-tires here...

Hmmm... maybe I can pick up my old PS2 from the people borrowing it this weekend. Only question is whether my memory card still works...

The car actually has a lot of natural grip - really, an unrealistic amount considering its age - plus 25/35 downforce, so its cornering speeds are actually pretty good. It's certainly nervous in the turns and over the bumps at high speed, but you don't exactly have to wrestle the car. That's why it can so easily turn in a time that's really pretty impressive, considering.

Of course, it has the wheelbase of a Victory-class Star Destroyer. That doesn't help...

Fun to drive around the 'Ring, but I've never tried it on N-grade rubber. You'll have to post up your times and settings.

As I said, I did a 7'50.444, without the turbo or an oil change. I didn't touch the suspension, LSD, etc., and I left the downforce at maximum. The only thing I changed was to lengthen the gears, I think to autoset 19, such that I wouldn't redline at top speed on the long straight.

I'm now down to 7'43.803, which might be the fastest I'm reasonably able to go. I should also clarify that I'm not using any driving aids, even though I suspect that ASM would, perversely, actually make this car faster. I'm also trying to keep it slightly more realistic by not putting any tires on high curbs or grass, and by not going into the redline past 5000 rpm.

had a shot at this and I can tell you Austin it was very hard for me to even get the 8min. did not get a clean lap was sitting at 7'57.but ballist 50 and waight at 4 with out doing this not a chance of even getting 7'50.:ouch:IF I have time to really get stuke in should get some time by the way gear setting in my thought should be 20:tup:
