As part of my quest to drag us out of our comfort zones I'm posting this little hotlap
contest. But its mostly just an excuse to thrash around in the new Ferrari FXX-K.

DRIVECLUB™_20150731132230.jpg

Number 3 is the least technical variation of the 'Autodromo' tracks.
Its pretty fun but in typical Driveclub fashion where nothing can be straitforward,
there is a tricky area. Its to do with undulations in the surface before the chicane-
its designed to keep you on edge. And it does.
In addition there is an unusual effect at the flat out right bend which comes
after turn 1. If you drive close to the edge of the road in the right place you get a boost
of power. Dont ask me why.

The Ferrari FXX-K is a terrific car. While some cars in Driveclub sound like turds, a few
do give a sense of power- and the FXX-K is one of them (the F50 is an example of lame
audio). The FXX-K is probably too much car for this track, but on the bright side a little
practice leaves rather funny looking corner exits covered in long burnt rubber darkies.

DRIVECLUB™_20150731201923.jpg

As far as tips go, turn 1 entry is a beautiful place to sort out the Driveclub technique of
'forward drifting', which just means coming in hot and anticipating the amount of skid/drift
you will encounter as you brake and downshift more or less in a straight line (as opposed to
entering turn 1 sideways like Colin McRae).

The right bend after turn 1 wants you to have your tires between the white line and the blue
and white curbing.. its easy to feel a speed boost when you do what the game wants there.

The corners that follow are out of Alice In Wonderland and you never seem to feel you are
going fast enough. And there seems to be another reward-area just before the 1st of the two
right handers before the chicane.. keep to the left.

The chicane is where good laps go to die. It usually seems helpful to downshift into 3rd
in the middle of it before going back to 4th as soon as the exit seems safe. Keeping your
fingers crossed and briefly closing your eyes seems to help as well.

O goody! This is my comfort zone :D I have a WR with the One:1 on this track. Me and my club members were giving it a thrash a while ago.

If my TV would turn on then I'd give it a shot right now. But alas I think the poor things dying.

Below is a replay with the timing info removed. Ive tried to beat this lap until I was ready
to blow the earth up in frustration, but I never could beat it. So its a good place to start.
Blowing up the earth is also a good start, but lets leave that one for now.
Its worth noting that if you save a replay with the display settings set one way, you can go
back and change the display settings after the fact and the saved replay will now show the
new settings.

Count me in. Did a few warm up laps this morning and was global number 3 with a 43.3. With your tips and more perseverance I think I could get that down by another second. WR was 42.6, my bet is low 41 by the end of this, which may be quicker than Ozzy's one record here. Out tonight so my campaign will begin tomorrow, let's have fun guys!!!

WR was 42.6, my bet is low 41 by the end of this..

I dont know about that. I've driven lots of laps and never come close to my current best time.
For me personally that means theres nothing more to be found, unless theres some sort of magical
unicorn hidden in the brush I need to run over to gain bonus time. Thats not to say a setup like
Ozzy's (DS4, auto gears, chase view) might reward him differently. But I've found no more green,
and I'm done at 42.564. Did I mention I've tried??

You did, I didn't realise you had given it everything!! Lets see, your's is the WR at the moment but I still wouldn't be surprised to see Ozzy or one of his club break 42 seconds. I was 44.3 and then jumped immediately to 43.3 so using your cow analogy I think I am still devouring the carcass!

Just tried for about half an hour and only got my time down by a tenth of a second to 43.2, well behind yours!! The key is definitely the last chicane and I have no idea on the best approach! My best first two splits are 13.8 and 13.9 but I just can't nail that last bit.

I dont want to bore anybody with the details, but I had an amazing experience with
Driveclub lastnight. It boiled down to discovering the slightest of slight improvements
in technique, but they mattered!! Anyway it was amazing.

Probably one of my best DC moments and all for 2 tenths :)

It's strange, because the FXX K is so stiff and its brakes seem to not slow the car down enough. It makes it seem like an illusion.

Anywho i have a 43.1 at the moment, but can definitely get the record time with enough practice with the car. It's all about the braking zones and that last chicane.

So i'll have a go at it later tonight. With my new TV ;) and see what i can do.

For a keen second it seemed the Driveclub physics model knew exactly what it was doing,
so to speak, and was much 'truer' than I myself usually give it credit for.

The advance I made is small, but what it took to get really taught me something.
Probably one of my best DC moments and all for 3 tenths :)
Check out the last chicane in this one Mcparty. The way to time the downshift
into 3rd is important!

That's unreal, I have been taking it too wide, you have to come in narrow, and the kick is phenomenonal!! Your first two splits were pretty similar to my best but I haven't been under 15 seconds for the last one! Cheers I will try again, it must be tricky as I see Ozzy is similar to my time at present, both way off your pace!!!

Thats why I doubted/still doubt a time in the low 41's. Put another way, if you ever see large green
splits you cannot convert, well at least you saw them and you know they are there. But when I tell
you I did a few sessions and basically never saw a green split, then it means theres probably little
in the way of easy pickings to be found. Its why finding 2 tenths made such an impression.
ANyway, its a fun track. BTW, post a thumbnail of the latest board (you are 3rd) and I will replace
the one on the first post of the thread.

I am 6th now!! I think you are still number one but DJW is in top form today so he may yet get that 42.4 lower!! I did clock up one record tonight that was quite sweet, you can guess the track!!

Ok I just added the latest Global Leaderboard to the thread starting post here, and yes,
I see that our friend DJW had joined the fray. Bigtime.

Technically I cant be Number 1 because I cant upload to the internet :)
But I like knowing I'm in good company.
Nice to meet you- DJW.

EDIT: at the chicane just remember that what comes after, is important. the short chute
before is of less consequence. sacrifice whatever you need to sacrifice but make sure your
chicane exit is maximized. one way to keep track of that is what gear you are in and the revs
you are carrying. once you got that part, work backwards and maximize the short chute.

you dont have to re-invent the wheel each time. the chicane is a bastard,
but its the same bastard each time you arrive there. at least.

I think I may be done here. I could shoot for a high 0:42, but... That last chicane is so frustrating, I'm basically getting it right one time out of ten (although don't get me wrong, the challenge is fun, and I can only get mad at myself for losing speed through the chicane in the most stupid ways).

At least I finished lv. 5 of the Ferrari Owners Club accolade with all the laps I had to do to get there.

The guys who have done well under 43 seconds must have hit that chicane perfect, most of the time I just hit it!! Congrats that's a great time anyway and Moto with his 42.342 absolutely phenomenonal, even DJW hasn't bettered that!!!

You seem to have done really well. If it were easy there'd probably be a lot of guys ahead of
you.. instead of the reality which is: there are loads of guys behind you. Nice job.

btw: added your leaderboard attachment to the first post of this thread.

I gave up last night Moto, came down by another tenth but still way behind your time. I tried with the P1 GTR and was very quickly around the same time so suspect I could do quicker with that. Expected Ozzy to do better, he does have the WR with the One there, maybe he doesn't like the FXXK! You should try and get your time on the online leaderboards!!

Jesus christ. I honestly doubted myself that i'd get into the 42s at all on this damn car

But a 42.2 Holy cow!

Mind you there is some VERY sloppy driving here. I hate the car so much i need the assistance of the Handbrake just to get it around the corners.

Video coming shortly o.o

Wowser!!!! And there was me doubting you!!!! Top man Ozzy!!

To be honest, i didn't want to do it. But i gave it a try and kept going until i got that.

Great stuff Ozzy! Nice work. I'll have to watch the video when I get to a faster wi-fi spot.
While YOU were demolishing Autodromo 03, I took the FXXK out to Munnar for the first
time last night. Will one of you *please* post a leaderboard screen? This time felt pretty
good.

BTW- I added your leaderboard screen to the first post of the thread Ozzy, and also,
I intended to ask for a leaderboard screen here this morning not knowing you made a
new #1 time, so dont think I'm sweeping your work under the rug. We just hadnt heard
from you! Anyway I look forward to watching your driving in that vid.

That's another world record matey!! Guy at number one is very near, 2:46.464 but number two is 2:49.035 and number 3 is one of DJW_GT mates so you are flying here! Funnily enough good old Ozzy has the overall record with a 2:43 something in the one. By the way I realised today there is one guy who is king of DC, it's Mr eb4ticky etc, he is fastest overall by a country mile. He doesn't do alot but whatever he does he dominates. Ozzy is in the top 5, you top 10 but this guy is numero uno!!!

He doesn't do alot but whatever he does he dominates.

Well that says something right there. If you cherry-pick what you drive its easier and not harder to
dominate. Didnt he post a lap at Tamil Nadu the other week in the Nissan? And didnt Ozzy beat it?
Maybe my memory is wrong. Anyway, these fast lap things are moving targets.. in my experience
theres an amount of obsession you need in order to be number one, and thats not a small part of it.
I dont need to tell you that.. thats how YOU are at FVR. :)

The Tamal Nadu guy was Kie25, I used to think he was the best but eb4 is a step above. It's weird he doesn't do more tracks and cars. Ozzy is up there with kie25 now but neither of them can touch eb4!!

thats right... i remember now.
i'm still sticking to my guns and saying A.you need to be compulsive, and B.we dont know how DC is
programmed to tell time in hotlaps.

i'm not complaining. i have compulsive tendencies. i'm ok with it.

Yep I am compulsive too and this is one game that draws on our compulsions, the most addictive racer I have ever played in 30 years of gaming!!
