I was talking about an old Test Drive game on PC where you use the cursor keys to control your car and the A key to shift gears. The cars in that old game were a Lamborghini, a Lotus, a Porche, a Ferrari and a Corvette

I think Auto sucks for some cars and good for others. Some you dont need to redline like the muscle cars which is good with auto's but one's that produce good power till redline like the Honda's is better with Manual. Also harder to drift with auto and sucks ass cause it dosn't downshift when you need it to. When I used auto always had to hit reverse so it would down shift so I could get an extra 1-2k RPM.

In reality, I prefer a M/T on my car but on GT and any other driving games out there I prefer A/T.
Its just because its more conforting during endurance races and rally driving. Unless if theres wrong with a car like the 1999 Acura Integra GSR/1999 Honda Integra SiR (with no 4th gear) and the Lancia Delta HF Integrale (which doesn't shift 5th gear) then I'll use M/T.

I'll share my A/T downshifting technique to the world........Just tap on the reverse button and (depends on the car) it will downshift a gear or two, so it will provide the engine brake.

But still, Stickshift rules!!!!!!

I just have one other thing to say. If anyone is using A/T cause they cant drive manual and have owned GT2 atleast a month needs to just quit lol. I mean **** the first time my g/f tried playng GT2 she used manual with the Arta Zexel, only took her 4 races where she didnt have to watch the tach when shifting. It's easier then real life driving and I think in real life M/T is easy as automatic plus more fun. Im only joking about the quiting thing, some people just dont have the motor skills to use manual while racing. Also when you can race M/T without using the tach you have mastered M/T.

Driving manual in the game is not easier than driving manual in real life. Manual in real life feels natural and fun. Driving manual in the game requires one to burn new nuronal paths through the ol' brain which can take some people longer than others.

Think about it. In a real car you're using both feet and both hands. In the game you're using just your hands. Not to mention you're missing all the physical sensations of driving a real car like gravity and inertia.

But, at the end of the day, I do feel inferior for not being any good at manual in the game. But I'm practicing and getting better.

Good to hear your getting better with M/T but I still have to say for god sake lol it's a game, how hard can it be to use 2 more buttons. Like I said it's a game and I see how some may have a harder time using M/T, but their's always room for improvment.

Dont know of any transmission called that but you can get Dog engadgment/Rally style, where you can either mount a device where all you do to shift is hit up and down using the clutch still and one where you dont use a clutch and just tap the shifter forward and down shift using a steering colom mounted lever. There is another style to but cant remember how it works. I mostly know about Dog Style tranny cause I almost bought a 6 speed setup for my MKll, only $3,800 lol

Say, have you ever taken this girl out for a ride? I did. In Gran Turismo 2. I was driving my Celica GT-R '91 when I picked her up somewhere in Tahiti Road. :D

I was just making a reply to Takumi64's post's. Back to the topic automatic is a waiste. The whole point of racing is having total feel for a car, there for manual transmission is the must. But I really dont give a rats azz if someone uses A/T cause it's just their prefrance and that's cool.

I've seen steering wheel style contolers for the game.

How the heck would you use that? Do you have to sit at a table ot something? Where do you put the shifter? Just wondering 'cuz I've thought about getting one.

If anybody has recomendations I'm all ears (eyes).

The only problem I have with the M/T is down-shifting. And it really scares the **** out of me. I remember playing this old PC racing game that relies purely on M/T. Whenever I down-shift during the wrong time, the car explodes!

Hey when trying to get the feel for down shifting just figure a 3000 rpm difference, say you in 4th at 8k rpm maxed out you would want to downshift around around 6k or less. Also you can hit reverse to downshift to start off, reverse if you'v changed your button settings. Hope that gives a little more help.

I just finished playing Sega Rally 2. Man, the A/T becomes very useful once you reduce the final gear ratio to -5. That's how I was able to win the 3rd year championship.

Oh, yeah. I forgot. Well, I've had my share of fun with Gran Turismo 2. Right now the only car in my garage is the Toyota Celica GT-R '91.

Anyway, what exactly happens when you reduce a car's final gear ratio to -5? Can that be possible in Gran Turismo 2?

You can adjust the ratio of any gear you want on GT2, you can make it where like 5th or 6th gear is just a couple MPH faster then the previous one or all the way up where it bogs really bad. It can help to achieve a faster 1/4 E.T. but take a while unless you do it alot.

When I played Sega Rally 2, there's this option called Final Gear Ratio where you can adjust the ratio between -5 and +5 with 0 being the normal setting. Is it also possible in GT2?
